  • As amazing as this is, and as scientifically correct the car may be able to drive, it will never replace pure human skill. Surely, just as f35 lover mentioned, it will solve everyday problems with ease, I would love to see a future with autonomous vehicles, but machines are never perfect, they may come to be so, but not in the near future. Call me pessimistic- but simply general knowledge regarding road safety would be just as helpful, regardless, great idea and wish you guys the best.

  • Just to be able to drive that thing, thats dope.

  • Let's take the likes way beyond the dislikes!

  • this is why you tr your best in school kids, so you can create cool stuff and get paid doing it. otherwise, you'll just be selling drugs and tossing salad in prison

  • fun fact: the car's name is 'Shelly'; world and Olympic champion Shelly Ann Frazer drives one of these cars too!

  • Does anybody know how far they've come? Will they do it this year (2010)?

  • @MegaWeirdoo I think it went over the edge. But pieces of it are on sale at various Manitou Springs gift shops.

  • sweet!

  • Why so many down votes? Do people really hate robots that much?

  • @trekgeek1 probably a bunch of mustang owners jealous of the fact that the Stanford guys wisely chose an Audi instead of a shitty American car.

  • What date is the race? I haven't heard anything about this for a few months now.

  • @JaredVeale

Yeah, I haven't been able to find a date either. Looked everywhere.

  • Good luck guys! I'm very impressed with what you've done so far. There are literally thousands maybe millions of variables that you're up against!

    All the best!

  • Yes! That's brilliant. I can't wait to see how it does. I'm a US citizen studying mechanical engineering here in Australia. Thanks for keeping me inspired!

  • 4th century BC philosopher, Clarksonius, once asked "How hard can it be?"

  • The successors to Shelley will one day save hundreds- if not thousands -of human lives each year. Billions of gallons of fuel- fuel which is normally wasted through the stop/start of a traffic jam or simply searching for a parking space- will be saved as well. Shunning a technology like Shelley simply because of potential military applications should be a crime- no matter what, whether in military or civilian use, it will save countless lives.

Good luck to the team involved, and to Shelly :P

  • Wow.. nice

  • wow u guys, your can can do circles without a driver with a ton of hardware?

  • Oh sweet, one day we wont need people for anything!

Including going to school and war.

Whoever is developing this please understand that your good intentions are corruptly funded and developed.

  • I just wonder what would have happened if the english had not found America, what would they have done for land?

  • Very Cool!

  • That's unbelievably great.

  • sweet.

  • Amazing. I want to congratulate the entire team of engineers from Stanford Uniniversidade by the brilliant design with the Audi called Shelley who will participate in the Rally to Pikes Peak this year without a driver. Incredible - Thank you again. We set up a summary of the video on our channel: / watch? V = RK9lVYgPrxY

  • ha ha i drove up all 14,110 feet of pikes peak in a saturn

  • To all those who? listen, to all those who hear, a voice is crying out, yet you turn in fear? when blood is shed, and answers not given lies we are fed, when the walls that divide governments and people grow to such heights that the people no longer see the light. and there is no end in sight, when wars are fought in the name of recources and money, instead of promoting peace, when freedom is tested, maybe thats when we need to start fighting back, maybe thats when truth needs to be on track

  • Great video!

  • Go up to your address bar and put the letter Q in between you and tube

  • "Save our Space ship Mother Earth"

  • Take the red pill

  • hey i want my channel like this one! can somebody look and help me out?

  • "From hunters and gatherers, to the agricultural revolution, to the industrial revolution - the pattern is clear. It is time for a new social system which reflects the understandings we have today."

    Click my channel

  • Very cool technology

I love to see the driverless car in the public roads. I would like to have one too.

  • I am an engineer and have worked in this type of thing before, and I am telling you folks this is cutting edge stuff. Aircraft dont have 90% of the challenges that this car will have to solve on the ground.

and Sterling theory has been totally understood by engineers for at least 70 years. It is fascinating and a dead-end science. The efficiencies possible are absolutely limited and not worth any more pring in "science for the gullible" magazines.

  • Take the red pill

  • cooles video!

    schau dir das mal an!

  • this is very cool! i'll be cheering for the car this Sept.! ScienceFTW

  • robots talking about science:

    watch?v=KQYG27ATo5o

  • That's a pretty ignorant comment. They said in the video specifically what they were trying to achieve. Show me where that has been done before.

  • What a stupid comment...

This is how new insights and discoveries are made-- by solving problems! The importance is in the journey since the destination is rarely known, when it comes to technological development. Who knows what new insights into controls, computer science, and mechanical engineering this project might provide? Certainly not you.

  • LIsten, we already understand the science behind it. We can fly a 747 and even perform an aerail refuel around the world. We can drive a tractor-trailer truck by remote. How about we focus more on "String Theory" or something we don't understand.

We have been there and done that!

  • What, you people don't like the fact that what I stated was the truth?

  • Cool!

  • Nice, you should do a control test with a similar car with a pro driver on the wheel to see how close the times actually are. Since driving corners is not just about hiting the curve at a certain velocity and vector, but has a lot also to do with what the weight of the car is doing at the moment (scandinavian flick for example)

  • AI to prevent accidents? Heck, I just want it so I can read in transit. And I want to get there at higher speeds than I could drive it.

  • Interesting. Too bad its a TT and not an S4/6!

  • We need all AI cars to eliminate accidents, vehicular and pedestrian...

  • Wer braucht den Käse?

    iRobot / Surrogate lässt grüßen!

  • Impressive. AI-piloted cars a step closer...

  • Walter Rohrl 1987 Pikes Peak with Audi S1

    not 1997

  • There are some pretty killer curves on that road. a lot different than driving across the salt flats.. good luck!

  • Looking forward to the videos that will come from in car without a driver, It will make for an epic video that will wow a lot of people and will hopefully spawn into better cars and better controls! Good luck on the Pike Peak Run. PPR

  • Cool! :)

  • very interesting concept... id like to watch it race against a professional driver ;)
