As amazing as this is, and as scientifically correct the car may be able to drive, it will never replace pure human skill. Surely, just as f35 lover mentioned, it will solve everyday problems with ease, I would love to see a future with autonomous vehicles, but machines are never perfect, they may come to be so, but not in the near future. Call me pessimistic- but simply general knowledge regarding road safety would be just as helpful, regardless, great idea and wish you guys the best.
this is why you tr your best in school kids, so you can create cool stuff and get paid doing it. otherwise, you'll just be selling drugs and tossing salad in prison
Yes! That's brilliant. I can't wait to see how it does. I'm a US citizen studying mechanical engineering here in Australia. Thanks for keeping me inspired!
The successors to Shelley will one day save hundreds- if not thousands -of human lives each year. Billions of gallons of fuel- fuel which is normally wasted through the stop/start of a traffic jam or simply searching for a parking space- will be saved as well. Shunning a technology like Shelley simply because of potential military applications should be a crime- no matter what, whether in military or civilian use, it will save countless lives.
Amazing. I want to congratulate the entire team of engineers from Stanford Uniniversidade by the brilliant design with the Audi called Shelley who will participate in the Rally to Pikes Peak this year without a driver. Incredible - Thank you again. We set up a summary of the video on our channel: / watch? V = RK9lVYgPrxY

To all those who? listen, to all those who hear, a voice is crying out, yet you turn in fear? when blood is shed, and answers not given lies we are fed, when the walls that divide governments and people grow to such heights that the people no longer see the light. and there is no end in sight, when wars are fought in the name of recources and money, instead of promoting peace, when freedom is tested, maybe thats when we need to start fighting back, maybe thats when truth needs to be on track
"From hunters and gatherers, to the agricultural revolution, to the industrial revolution - the pattern is clear. It is time for a new social system which reflects the understandings we have today."
I am an engineer and have worked in this type of thing before, and I am telling you folks this is cutting edge stuff. Aircraft dont have 90% of the challenges that this car will have to solve on the ground.
and Sterling theory has been totally understood by engineers for at least 70 years. It is fascinating and a dead-end science. The efficiencies possible are absolutely limited and not worth any more pring in "science for the gullible" magazines.

Oh, my gosh! We have done this before. We already know that we have the technology to send an autonomous car up some mountain. Let's do something new for a change. Let's be intrepid for once.
This is how new insights and discoveries are made-- by solving problems! The importance is in the journey since the destination is rarely known, when it comes to technological development. Who knows what new insights into controls, computer science, and mechanical engineering this project might provide? Certainly not you.
LIsten, we already understand the science behind it. We can fly a 747 and even perform an aerail refuel around the world. We can drive a tractor-trailer truck by remote. How about we focus more on "String Theory" or something we don't understand.
Nice, you should do a control test with a similar car with a pro driver on the wheel to see how close the times actually are. Since driving corners is not just about hiting the curve at a certain velocity and vector, but has a lot also to do with what the weight of the car is doing at the moment (scandinavian flick for example)
Looking forward to the videos that will come from in car without a driver, It will make for an epic video that will wow a lot of people and will hopefully spawn into better cars and better controls! Good luck on the Pike Peak Run. PPR

@trekgeek1 probably a bunch of mustang owners jealous of the fact that the Stanford guys wisely chose an Audi instead of a shitty American car.
