i have one figure eight in a 20 gallon its been there for almost a year now and doing great. Would it be wise to get another figure eight or is the territorial space too small?
I am looking for a puffer fish- Unfortunately I already have other fish. Looking for one because I got a infestation of snails. Trust me, they ain't running out sometime soon. Can someone tell me if I should get a assassin snail or a puffer fish if I have tons of snails ? I'm a bit worried that the food supply is just going to swell up and up and no decrease.
I just got a figure eight a few hours ago and he has been swimming up and down the glass the entire time. i think he's looking for snails as i have hundreds of small ones that he quite literally shreds, but I don't know. Is this normal?
Its usualy bordem when they swim up and down the glass. just make sure youve got lots of plants and things in there that they can hide under and explore.
@zippybomb when they swim up and down, its a sign of a healthy puffer fish. they may change color time to time, they may start turning blackish or grayish, also normal. I have 20 GSP's.
@zippybomb The swimming behavior you're observing is called "Pacing". It is a common behavior seen in newly acquired fish of any species. They are not acclimated to the water chemistry of your tank compared to the tank they came from and are seeking to "get away" from your tank. The behavior will stop once the fish has adjusted.
Figure 8 Puffers are very explorative and intelligent fish. They will swim all over your tank and learn to know their owner!
The best size snail to feed your puffers is the size of their eyes. It's not true that bigger is better. You want snails that will fit in their mouths so they can crush them with their teeth.
im getting a fish tank from some relatives soon and am going to get some of these puffers but because their such messy eaters and i dont know how good the filter is yet i want to get some sort of bottom feeder to take some pressure off the filter. the tanks 70-100 gallons tall. any suggestions?

Biologists fear the non-native snails because they have been shown to eat 95 percent of the aquatic vegetation in some natural systems, leaving behind murky, algae-filled water.
Pet stores sold the snails for years, but that practice is now illegal and subject to Federal prosecution.
whats the smallest snial they can eat?I have some small snails I don't want anymore and their starting to get out of control.I've always wanted a puffer but if the snails are to small I could always sell them or something and feed the puffer other food
the bigger the better but mine like me to crush um up a bit. ur'll just have to get one and see if he eats them. do ur home work on puffers first tho there hard fish to keep.
Nice puffers! I have a spotted puffer in a 10 and Spud has grown to about 4 inches and needs a new home. Spud lives with guppies, which I don't think he easts because he is very well fed. He loves snails and gets upset when I try to give him anything else. I have frozen shrimp but he's not too keen. I also give live worms, but snails are the main diet. As spud gets larger I have a hard time growing snails fast enough to keep Spud fed. Spud was a walmart rescue. Puffers are great.
What size is your tank you have the puffers and clown loach in? Do you have plans for the loach once it reaches adulthood (as they can reach 16 inches)? I wish I could have one, but I think he'd outgrow my 55-gallon very fast.
its a 30 gallon mate, know its a bit on the small size but i will get a larger tank when i need to. the clown loach died :( dont know how but he had a bone stickin out of his face the one morning. think he did it to him self some how by hiding. got a mono now very nice fish to replace him. as for the puffers there always with each other and get on realy well i'v had um about 6 months now. i'll do a new vido soon
nah mate u need to feed them a variety. i use frozen most the time. and its best to get um snails they can fit in there mouth to help keep there teeth down.
Does the puffer fish only eat them kind of snails, I've just noticed lots of little snails in my tank, Im assuming its from live plants which I put in last week, but what im asking is, if i buy some puffer fish, will they eat all snails? or is there a certain snail.
puffers see all snails as food they will defo eat them. but they also see other fish as food so there not good as tank m8s. if your going to get puffer fish get figure eight ones. they dont grow to big nd mine have got on well with other fish. they are also a brackish fish.

My dwarf puffer has eaten my snail, and now the snail is dead. Should i leave the shell in the fish tank?
Also do dwarf puffers eat the snails shell?

that bone was the subocular spine. Preferred salinity levels are different between loaches and these puffers, too much salt may be hard on loaches.

Gorgeous tank there. You've got two great looking puffers there. =) Hope they're as buddy-buddy with each other as mine are. How old are these guys?
