Hey I bought a 75 watt heat bulb for my bearded dragon, she hasn't been eating since I got it. Is this because of the heat or is it another problem? ( she also hasn't been moving)
@Creamyreptiles You can't really say around a 80" tank, it does not really tell me a lot. Although it sounds as if it is a quite large enclosure. That means your Dragon(s) will probably want to flock under the heat lamp to stay warm. Although it should cover some heat and all your UV needs for the Dragon. I would imagine you should have at least another 100watt light and a few heat emitters for day and night heating.
@Creamyreptiles Anyway just buy the Power Sun and at least one heat emitter and put it near the middle (closer to the side without the Power Sun) of the cage. Then see where you are at. The basking area should be at least near or slightly over 100F and the immediate surrounding area should be at least 80F. Then the cold side of the cage around 60F.
Rocks, and heating pads aren't good. For keeping the dragon warm just use the basking lamp. And always keep fresh water daily in the tank. And well my dragon sleeps like a brick with the night glo moonlight bulb to act as the moon, and it also heats up so I don't have to use the basking light or ceramic emitter.
Hi!! I have a Tank standing arround its bout 140Gallons/530Liters
How many lightnings or heat should i need to have for the Dragon if i put my dragon in a such big tank and get maybe a female to him. Should i have some floor heating aswell for the dragon I'm kind off new to the dragons.. I'm also going to buy Some UV-A and some UV-B at the pet store. But i don't know how many yet about how many do you think??? By the way is such big tank Bad for the dragon maybe too Big???? Answers Please
@stuff4pets Depends on how powerful the bulb is, how big your cage is, what you have in your cage (Rocks, Bedding, Etc) and finally what your cage is made out of. Basically all you need though is the UV Bulb. It will usually put off enough heat. Although if your cage is too large or small it could be dangerous problem.
hey question at the end you showed a lamp with a plastic thing on top..and your using a 100watt bulb cant that actually melt the plastic part or cause a fire?
@105ert They are called Ceramic Bulbs. It is basically a bulb that is all painted a solid thick color. So no light can get through. Meaning it won't disturb you're Dragon's day night cycle. For the most part you just need to make sure your set up doesn't get very cold at night. Glass enclosure's (such as mine) have this problem alot more than say one that is made out of premium wood. Glass just hold's temperature's too well.
Hey you should try the mega-ray bulb from reptileuv. They have a 160w and make great uvb. about 200-300 micro-watts. I love them! They have a year guarantee.
Hi, nice video. I'm sorry if you answered this in the video, if you did I didn't hear it and i'm sorry bothering you. But whats a good heat source for night time? I'm somewhat new too bearded dragons. I've had a leopard gecko for a few years. I recently got a bearded dragon about three months ago. I've been using the infrared and as you said in the video it is bad and I've been looking for some sort of heat bulb that doesn't disrupt sleeping. What do you recommend?

Why the name calling??? You need to do some more research, before you go on a website advising others what to do when you have no idea what you`re talking about!!
Yes, you CAN buy these bulbs from ebay, there are MANY very trusted dealers on there. Please explain to us all how UVB passes through normal window glass.... (Maybe you can ask a science teacher, first)? Thanks!
@ornatusvaranid Because i'm sick of having to correct fucking idiots. I already explained it so you can go read it your self or go to Wikipedia. YOU CAN NOT buy a bulb that produces UVB from a seller on Ebay because there is like a mercury strip in the bulb that goes bad after awhile. So there for there is no way to tell wether your getting a legit bulb or not other than buying it retail from a trusted pet shop. Anybody than knows anything about any reptile knows that. It is common sense.
@HexaFox I get sick of correcting idiots like you too, but the info you give out means animals will undoubtably suffer, so I`ll contnue to correct your mistakes. Even an incandescent household bulb emmits UVA (but obviously, NOT UVB).
Gee sport, if you had any common sense, you`d be dangerous.... I grew up with these animals. in Oz!!
By the way, can you do a spell check on your replies, your spelling is awful??
@ornatusvaranid I make a small typo every now and then. I have alot to keep up with. You need to search the internet for this. Also not some crappy post where there are children such as your self posting there. Also my Dragon is over three years old now and she is in fine health. I have also grown up around Bearded Dragons my whole life. As I have said before. The problem here is you were brought up on the wrong information and a danger to anyone you try to help w/ any reptile not just Dragons.
@ornatusvaranid Sadly the most I can do for you is block you out to stop you from spreading around ignorant things. Ignorant things that we were taught in 5th grade science. If you went to school and weren't on your computer all day posting on my videos you would know this. So please to feel free to pursue in a actual real education anytime. You very much do need it.
can you get along with just the mercury vapor bulb or do you need more. im wondering because im getting a bearded dragon and i only want the best for him-her, i know that they need uvb and uva and im doing all the reasurch i can and you look like you know your stuff
@MySirDave Also this video is extermly simple and easy to follow. It's a ten minute long basic video to help care for a Dragon and if you can't follow atleat this you shouldn't own a Dragon. This is the very least you can do for a Bearded Dragon. Also you don't use "night bulbs" for Dragons in the first place because it disturbs their night cycle.
@hexafox what about night lights u didn't explain much about those and do u just need the sun bulb And the other bulb to heat and give off nutrients during the day?
If the Lid to your aquarium is Glass, The Dragons wont receive any UVB or UVA light its the same reason you dont get tan sitting behind a window, that spectrum cannot pass through windows.
@MySirDave lol Where did you go to school? Through a normal glass window in your house (about 2/5" thick) about 85% of the suns RAYS get through the glass and penetrate anything on the other side. That's why it's possible to get sunburn from the other side of a window. Note that the UV from the sun is what causes sunburn. So there for it does pass through glass, PERIOD. Also you CAN NOT use a normal house bulb for a Bearded Dragon. You need a 100 watt bulb for a DECENT basking area.
@HexaFox Hi, I`d like to ask where YOU went to school?? At least 85% of UVB rays do NOT pass through plastic or glass, unless it`s a special UVB penetrable glass/plastic such as certain polycarbonate products!
And also, if a screen top is fitted, the screen size must be over 1/4 inch holes or the UVB won`t pass through that either. Neither Varanids nor Bearded dragons see infraredlight, according to research that`s been done! You CAN use a household bulb just to help raise the temps.
@ornatusvaranid I would like to say you are a MORON and I can't waste my time argueing w/ MORONS that have no clue what they are talking about. Go Wiki it, around 3/4 of the rays pass through glass. Also it is common sense that if your screen is too thick some of the rays will be blocked. It's the same reason plants recieve mostly adequate sunlight sitting in a window. Because they also need the rays that come from the sunlight. It isn't direct sunlight but close enough.
@remas14 Well there all about the same. Depending on what size bulb you need to fit in there and what material dome you buy your looking at about 10-30 dollars. There not too expensive. The big thing is the bulb it's self you need to just look and compare prices. Because the pet industry is one of the biggest places to get ripped off. I figured out some of the Mercury Vapour bulbs only cost big pet stores around 10 bucks but they shelve them for over 70.
i have a 10% UVB repti glo long light and a UVB and UVA 100watt light is that ok the cold blooded store in rainham gave it to me for my bearded dragon i have a thermostat to control the heat in the tank through the 100watt light
@GodzillaPengu A bulb that puts off no light. It's called a Heat Emitter. You screw it in a normal Dome or Deep Dome (However big your cage and bulb is) and it will keep the cage a acceptable temperature over night.
Your video helped me alot but can you help me with two things for my baby dragon....first is I have a reptisun 10.0 for my 10gallob tank and people have told me that that type of bulb is bad cause it burns thier eyes? What should I do, keep it or wat?....and my second question is how can I get my beardie to eat out of his bowl?...and if he does it out his bowl it's only live things, he won't eat it if it don't move???
Plz help, love your video helped me more than you know
I might be getting a bearded dragon and I want to give the dragon and me the best experience out of it. Is it for the bearded dragon to use a heat rock?
@acehockeyplayer Basically what Shawskyy said. You screw them into a Dome like any other light bulb except they put off no light. If you want to see them go to Google and just type in Heat Emitters and you will find them.
My light burned out about a 2 weeks ago. So I went to petco to replace it. I don't know to much about bulbs. I have an 55 gal tank, and I also have a 100 red bulb which I found out was a bad idea. Someone there told me I needed a 150 wt basking bulb. So I bought an Zoomed repti basking light. I came home tonight, and found my bearded dragon with a swolen eye, and a sore in his mouth. I don't have have sand, but it's some other type of beading for beardies. Does anyone know whats wrong?

i'm thing of buying a 160w mercury vapor bulb for my bearded dragon for the day and a 100w Ceramic Heaters bulb for night which doesn't give out any light is this a suitable setup for my (1220L)x(610D)x(525H) vivarium heat wise and light
@MegaBwick I recommend Ceramic Heat Emitters, they are the best for night. Some people use heating pads but they are a hassle. You basically glue them to the bottem of your tank and then you have to raise your tank up so it isn't sitting on the wire. Then it can cause hot spots. I could sit here all day giving out reasons why not to use it but you get the picture. Anyway Heat Emitters screw into a dome just like normal bulbs and they put off heat w/ out light.
@HexaFox I am getting a bearded dragon in a few months, and I'm wondering what wattages are the ceramic heaters you use as night-time bulbs, and are you using any sort of spot bulb for a basking spot? if so, what wattage and what brand?

@Scrotch19 Well to be accurate you should not use red bulbs because it can frustrate a Dragons day/night schedule. Also heating pads are okay for Dragons but are used primarily to raise humidity which Dragons need zero of. It's better to keep them on just lights if you can reach a nice dry hot enviroment. Which resembes most their natural enviroment.
Ok I'm really getting confused I'm getting a baby beardy one june 10th and I usually can't find wattage for my animals so I am not sure what to use I plan on starting with a 40 gallon if my mom allows or maybe a 20 gallon long to start then upgrade to a 40 or 55 I just want to know straight down the very basic lighting to use
Well what color should i use for night to make heat but that they cant see what color would be good to use that make heat but that they cant heat??? :S and good video btw and if you could answer me the fastest you can it will be nice of you thx :)!!!!
sorry to bother you. What is exactly uvb light, what does this have to do with fluorescent lighting. i'm not realy sure because i'm using a fluorescent light as a uvb source please reply and thank you.
@Mrpacmanny Flourescent lights are usually made to produce Ultravoilet light. Although they put off much less than a self ballasted Mercury Vapour or Power Sun made to put out larger amounts of UVA and UVB. Most flourescent bulbs are longer bulbs and on the outside of the glass tank. This is terrible because alot of the UVB light source your trying to transfer to your dragon is blocked. I just find it easier to get a all in one heating and UV bulb get it?
so you mean if i use the rep cal, its pointless to have a uvb light? please reply because i might be getting a dragon tommoro and i dont want the store to try to get me to get a lignt if i dont need it
Yes you do. The light helps absorb the powder and give's artificial radiation (UVA & UVB) you're Dragon has to have. The light is more important than the powder.
k hexafox plz reply to this but i live in a basement with no heat in maine and in the winter so what will i need to keep the cool side of the tank warm enough were the beardie wont die? i really need to know fast because im getting him in 3 days!!! thanks
i went to the pet shop today and they have 80 watts 100 watts and 125 watts shall i go for the 125watts and my tank is 40cm high so would the 125watt be to hott for that height or not?
A good 10"-14" away from your Dragons basking area. If you need additional heating through the day just buy small domes and get flood lights from a local department store. There the same thing that you use for reptiles just the box isn't changed and the price isn't jacked up.
yer my room is very warm anyway so it will be warm at night cause i live in spain so very warm at night cause the 100watt bulb in my pet storer is 50 euros wich is a lot so it means im gonna have to spend 50 euros a year on lamps thers is 80 watss 100 watss and 160 watts availble to buy and my tank is just over a meter long not sure on height and the dragon im getting is 4 months old so will everything be ok?
would a 100watt mercury vapour bulb with uva and uvb be any good for a beared dragon?and would i need any other lighting? and when would i have to change the bulb cause of the uvb?
The UVA and UVB strip in the bulb will burn out. Sometimes it may last longer than the bulb itself. There is not way to know for sure though. Your Dragon can easily go the another 6 Months w/ out UVA and UVB radiation. Just make sure Your feeding it the correct powder mix and you are changeing the bulb w/ in a reasonable time fram. If you've been useing it over a year and you have the extra money in your pocket buy a new one and keep the old one incase the new one blows out earlier than expected
Again it depends on how cool the location get's where your Bearded Dragon will be living. The 100 Watt also depends on the cage. If you have a 40 Gallon like me you may want a 120Watt.
Hi, I'm looking to buy a baby breaded dragon for Christmas and I was looking for the right lighting. If I buy the power sun uv 100 watts what more lighting do I need for the tank? because I know he needs a cool and warm side thanks
Nice to hear your interest in Bearded Dragons. If you are useing a 100watt Power Sun in a 40 Gallon Tank you you will not need any additional heating as long as it doesen't get too cool at night. (Use good judgement) Touch the glass at night it should be cool but if it is uncomfortaly cool to touch it you should look into additional heating. Maybe even some through the day but a UVB/UVA PowerSun 100 Watt should mostly do the job for you.
@HexaFox Hey I have a 60 Gallon tank and Im thinking about this setup. 100/150 watt bulb for basking/heating hot side, 60 watt ceramic heat emmiter for coll/night, 10.0 UVB bulb all across the tank. My room gets aroung 65-70 at night and roughly the same in the day, does this sound ok to you???
I have never used a themometer in my whole Bearded Dragon career. They are tough hard climate reptiles that are used to very hot temps in the day and cooler but not too cool during the night. If your tank is glass then you can usually tell by feeling it. The opposite side should be cooler or colder than cool to the touch and the basking side should feel warm. Then if you have any rocks in the cage just make sure they are warm/hot but not to hot to touch. Dragons like very warm rocks.
I can say (opinion) that UVB is more important than UVA because UVB will help your Dragon grow and helps prevent metabolic bone disease. Anything 10.0 is fine you should always look for 10.0 regardless. In a 60 Gallon cage you need to be useing the 150Watt along w/ atleast another 40Watt make sure it's a non-colored flood light that you can buy from Wal*Mart for a little bit of nothing. Just make sure yourt useing it along w/ the correct heating and UVB atleast.
hay i got a question im setting up my dragon set up i only have a heat lamp and a uvb lamd i dont have a heat lamp for the night... but i have a heating pad... what im planning on doing is putting the heat pad under the hide... so that would be were my dragon would sleep you think that will work good
Any good professional would give you a straight no. If you mean a normal heating pad a human or dog would use for a pulled muscle then i would not recommend it. Although it can be done but bad things can and probaly will happen. Anyway you shoulden't really use any heating pad's/mat's w/ Dragons. They are more of a crisp dry heat that they can only get from bulbs and such.
Only professionals can do this. Most other people don't know what the hell there doing or what they have to put on the cage. It also takes creativity. If your good at makeing things and understand Bearded Dragons and what care they need go for it. Otherwise you need to be buying a Bearded Dragon cage or a tank like most people do.
You should not use any kind of bulb that puts off any kind of light at night. It could disturb their day night cycle pretty easily. I recommend useing the bulbs that heat, that put off zero light at night or even an undertank heater. In most cases you don't need anything at night as long as where your Dragon is doesen't get neccasarily cool at night. As long as the glass is close ot room temperature you are fine. In fact the cage should cool down at night.
ok so 100watt powersun 10.0,water dish,reptical,low watt heat emitter for night,mealworms,repticarpet,calcium dish,annd decorations...and thermometors,do i need humidity and 1 or 2 hides?cool side 80 warm side(bask) 100..am i getting this so far?
They don't need heat all through the night. The desert gets cold at night. Just don't let it get below the mid to low 60s. I put a blankie in Anthy's tank for her to sleep in, and during winter she sleeps with me in bed at night. If you need to up the temps, use a ceramic heat emitter, not a "night time" bulb. Those things are awful for them.
hey, i don't remember if you said it or not, but what would you suggest for night time heating for bearded dragons? You said not to use infared or black bulbs so i am not sure. I only have leopard geckos and this will be my first bearded dragon. So I will take any tips I can get. I have a custom cage made from wood if that helps.
you should mae a new vid because i think that some people could get confused about the fluorescent bulb while you are talking about a ceramic heater. pretty cool that you are helping people that are new to the reptile hobby. i would make a vid too but no cam. keep up the help for the newbies
i want to buy a tank thats 72x24x13 how many gals is that and i am goign to use a 100 watt powersun 100 watt heat emitter 50watt hologen light for the cool side and a 10.0 12T long floresent bulb also a heat mat is this enought?
Okay okay, let me think. Sorry i get alot of questions and it's too much to volunteer to help people out so i am trying. My Tank measures 48x24x20 and it is a 40Gallon. So your looking around roughly a 50-70 Gallon Enclosure and your providing way to much heat. When you set up a Dragons cage try to "fry" one area (Make it very hot) and make the other side the cooler end with a water dish. Do not make the water dish too deep though make sure your Dragon can keep it's head above the water.
I'm glad you asked that. The truth is... nothing. Right now it's summer so it doesent get that cold. When it does get cold though i highly recommend those bulbs that put off no light but emit heat.
If you get a 75Gallon it's going to have a top w/ a plastic divider on top of it. Hang your heat lamps from that and point it to one side of the tank. Cover the other side w/ a beach towel and make sure it is away from the lights and won't catch fire. Make that the cooling end and also the heat will not be able to escape from that end because of the towel and also your Dragon will get plenty of breathing air threw the side that isnt covered (The side w/ the lights) and that would help alot.
Would mercury vapor bulb + reptisun 10 be way to much for your beardie? like you said, MVB can burn out but still give off heat, so I just want to know if it would be good.
They can never absorb to much UVA/UVB but they can however be over heated. It is indeed hard to "overheat" a Dragon espicially to any dangerous level because you will have a cooling end and they will be able to move out of the hot end and "cool down" then return to basking later after they have fed or just get to cold. Use Heat Emitting Bulbs at night to help heat the cage and not stress the Dragon w/ uneeded light.
It is now safe to say you are a complete idiot who has no idea what he/she is talking about. You already got rated shit for all the other bull shit comments you left on other videos (Go check it out) and i already said a 40 Gallon is a little too small. A 125 Gallon would need major heating to keep it 110Degrees and i really mean major. Ohh besides i found out you and your other little friend that have been posting videos of this crap are like 13 years old. So grow up a little.
Read over it again. That's what this idiot (beardiedude) put. If you listened a 90 Gallon Tank is ideal for 2 Dragons. So i don't know where the hell you got that from. I'm just sick of repeating myself to 20 people each day.
Sorry i was too into dealing w/ this idiot usually i don't talk bad about people but when you have a moron spreading shit like this w/ the correct information is right infront of you, your a moron (beardiedude). Look at the other videos where he has like Negative 15 thumbs down from people it's funny. I just blocked him so he couldent post on my videos anymore so he can see us replying but the poor little ass wipe can't do anything about it. I know i'm not the "professional" type am i?
Powersun Zoo Med just went up 20% on prices.I know it sucks.but i know a guy in my twon that my dad knows,it was noramlly 140$ but he gave it to us for 80$.woot.
Hey I bought a 75 watt heat bulb for my bearded dragon, she hasn't been eating since I got it. Is this because of the heat or is it another problem? ( she also hasn't been moving)

sup, ill be geting around an 80 inch tank and i wonder if a 160 w powersun would be enough or do i have to get one more heat lamp? (plz respond)
Creamyreptiles 1 week ago
@Creamyreptiles You can't really say around a 80" tank, it does not really tell me a lot. Although it sounds as if it is a quite large enclosure. That means your Dragon(s) will probably want to flock under the heat lamp to stay warm. Although it should cover some heat and all your UV needs for the Dragon. I would imagine you should have at least another 100watt light and a few heat emitters for day and night heating.
HexaFox 1 week ago
@HexaFox okey, that will help me alot. thanks!
Creamyreptiles 1 week ago
@Creamyreptiles Anyway just buy the Power Sun and at least one heat emitter and put it near the middle (closer to the side without the Power Sun) of the cage. Then see where you are at. The basking area should be at least near or slightly over 100F and the immediate surrounding area should be at least 80F. Then the cold side of the cage around 60F.

Rocks, and heating pads aren't good. For keeping the dragon warm just use the basking lamp. And always keep fresh water daily in the tank. And well my dragon sleeps like a brick with the night glo moonlight bulb to act as the moon, and it also heats up so I don't have to use the basking light or ceramic emitter.

so if you get a all in one bulb you do not need any other bulbs?
stuff4pets 7 months ago
@stuff4pets Depends on how powerful the bulb is, how big your cage is, what you have in your cage (Rocks, Bedding, Etc) and finally what your cage is made out of. Basically all you need though is the UV Bulb. It will usually put off enough heat. Although if your cage is too large or small it could be dangerous problem.

what wattage of light should i use for a 40 gallon tank and what point 0 should i use for a UVB?

i but fuck my bearded dragon
mareptilesrock 7 months ago
I would have to agree with @ornatusvaranid
Only UVA can go through glass UVB is filted out.
All reptile keepers should use UVB Equipment to measure UVB of the bulbs.
And screen top will filter out UVB by over 50%

hey question at the end you showed a lamp with a plastic thing on top..and your using a 100watt bulb cant that actually melt the plastic part or cause a fire?

HEXA FOX i was wondering what to use during the night plz answer if you have time
105ert 10 months ago
@105ert They are called Ceramic Bulbs. It is basically a bulb that is all painted a solid thick color. So no light can get through. Meaning it won't disturb you're Dragon's day night cycle. For the most part you just need to make sure your set up doesn't get very cold at night. Glass enclosure's (such as mine) have this problem alot more than say one that is made out of premium wood. Glass just hold's temperature's too well.
HexaFox 10 months ago
Hey you should try the mega-ray bulb from reptileuv. They have a 160w and make great uvb. about 200-300 micro-watts. I love them! They have a year guarantee.

You must NOT use supplementary D3 if using the UVB emmiting bulbs such asPowersun" and similar lamps, where on earth are you getting your info???
ornatusvaranid 11 months ago
Why the name calling??? You need to do some more research, before you go on a website advising others what to do when you have no idea what you`re talking about!!
Yes, you CAN buy these bulbs from ebay, there are MANY very trusted dealers on there. Please explain to us all how UVB passes through normal window glass.... (Maybe you can ask a science teacher, first)? Thanks!
ornatusvaranid 11 months ago
@ornatusvaranid Because i'm sick of having to correct fucking idiots. I already explained it so you can go read it your self or go to Wikipedia. YOU CAN NOT buy a bulb that produces UVB from a seller on Ebay because there is like a mercury strip in the bulb that goes bad after awhile. So there for there is no way to tell wether your getting a legit bulb or not other than buying it retail from a trusted pet shop. Anybody than knows anything about any reptile knows that. It is common sense.
HexaFox 11 months ago 4
@HexaFox I get sick of correcting idiots like you too, but the info you give out means animals will undoubtably suffer, so I`ll contnue to correct your mistakes. Even an incandescent household bulb emmits UVA (but obviously, NOT UVB).
Gee sport, if you had any common sense, you`d be dangerous.... I grew up with these animals. in Oz!!
By the way, can you do a spell check on your replies, your spelling is awful??
ornatusvaranid 11 months ago
@ornatusvaranid I make a small typo every now and then. I have alot to keep up with. You need to search the internet for this. Also not some crappy post where there are children such as your self posting there. Also my Dragon is over three years old now and she is in fine health. I have also grown up around Bearded Dragons my whole life. As I have said before. The problem here is you were brought up on the wrong information and a danger to anyone you try to help w/ any reptile not just Dragons.
HexaFox 11 months ago
@ornatusvaranid Sadly the most I can do for you is block you out to stop you from spreading around ignorant things. Ignorant things that we were taught in 5th grade science. If you went to school and weren't on your computer all day posting on my videos you would know this. So please to feel free to pursue in a actual real education anytime. You very much do need it.

metisjack 1 year ago
also you don't need any night bulbs if your temps don't get below 60 degrees
MySirDave 1 year ago
@MySirDave Also this video is extermly simple and easy to follow. It's a ten minute long basic video to help care for a Dragon and if you can't follow atleat this you shouldn't own a Dragon. This is the very least you can do for a Bearded Dragon. Also you don't use "night bulbs" for Dragons in the first place because it disturbs their night cycle.
HexaFox 1 year ago
@hexafox what about night lights u didn't explain much about those and do u just need the sun bulb And the other bulb to heat and give off nutrients during the day?
Reptiledictionary225 1 year ago
@Reptiledictionary225 yes and for night use saramic heat emitters or a night heat lamp which are good and i recomend it.

If the Lid to your aquarium is Glass, The Dragons wont receive any UVB or UVA light its the same reason you dont get tan sitting behind a window, that spectrum cannot pass through windows.
suckr4ahappyending 1 year ago
@suckr4ahappyending Well it still does pass through but not nearly as much.
HexaFox 1 year ago
@HexaFox UV rays do not pass through glass...... period
For possible new owners, this video is wayyyy to confusing
for UVB: Reptisun 10.0
for basking: you can use a normal house bulb, you don't need anything special just use the correct wattage to get the correct temps
MySirDave 1 year ago
@MySirDave lol Where did you go to school? Through a normal glass window in your house (about 2/5" thick) about 85% of the suns RAYS get through the glass and penetrate anything on the other side. That's why it's possible to get sunburn from the other side of a window. Note that the UV from the sun is what causes sunburn. So there for it does pass through glass, PERIOD. Also you CAN NOT use a normal house bulb for a Bearded Dragon. You need a 100 watt bulb for a DECENT basking area.
HexaFox 1 year ago
@HexaFox Hi, I`d like to ask where YOU went to school?? At least 85% of UVB rays do NOT pass through plastic or glass, unless it`s a special UVB penetrable glass/plastic such as certain polycarbonate products!
And also, if a screen top is fitted, the screen size must be over 1/4 inch holes or the UVB won`t pass through that either. Neither Varanids nor Bearded dragons see infraredlight, according to research that`s been done! You CAN use a household bulb just to help raise the temps.
ornatusvaranid 11 months ago
@ornatusvaranid I would like to say you are a MORON and I can't waste my time argueing w/ MORONS that have no clue what they are talking about. Go Wiki it, around 3/4 of the rays pass through glass. Also it is common sense that if your screen is too thick some of the rays will be blocked. It's the same reason plants recieve mostly adequate sunlight sitting in a window. Because they also need the rays that come from the sunlight. It isn't direct sunlight but close enough.

wheres the cheapest place to buy a light fixture dome thing?
remas14 1 year ago

What type of bulb would I use at night to keep the tank warm at night.
GodzillaPengu 1 year ago
@GodzillaPengu A bulb that puts off no light. It's called a Heat Emitter. You screw it in a normal Dome or Deep Dome (However big your cage and bulb is) and it will keep the cage a acceptable temperature over night.

I don't have have sand, but it's some other type of beading for beardies. Does anyone know whats wrong?

TheRealmusicmatters 1 year ago
hey, if you don't recommend the red bulbs, what can i use at nighttime?
MegaBwick 1 year ago
@MegaBwick I recommend Ceramic Heat Emitters, they are the best for night. Some people use heating pads but they are a hassle. You basically glue them to the bottem of your tank and then you have to raise your tank up so it isn't sitting on the wire. Then it can cause hot spots. I could sit here all day giving out reasons why not to use it but you get the picture. Anyway Heat Emitters screw into a dome just like normal bulbs and they put off heat w/ out light.

@HexaFox alright thanks alot !

what is the small tank a dragon can be in? is a 20 gallon good?
Noah34568 1 year ago
you should have a substrate heating pad aswell, i didnt see one in your vid, also you dont really need the red bulbs. there for Asthetics only
Scrotch19 1 year ago
@Scrotch19 Well to be accurate you should not use red bulbs because it can frustrate a Dragons day/night schedule. Also heating pads are okay for Dragons but are used primarily to raise humidity which Dragons need zero of. It's better to keep them on just lights if you can reach a nice dry hot enviroment. Which resembes most their natural enviroment.

sorry to bother you. What is exactly uvb light, what does this have to do with fluorescent lighting. i'm not realy sure because i'm using a fluorescent light as a uvb source please reply and thank you.
Mrpacmanny 1 year ago
@Mrpacmanny Flourescent lights are usually made to produce Ultravoilet light. Although they put off much less than a self ballasted Mercury Vapour or Power Sun made to put out larger amounts of UVA and UVB. Most flourescent bulbs are longer bulbs and on the outside of the glass tank. This is terrible because alot of the UVB light source your trying to transfer to your dragon is blocked. I just find it easier to get a all in one heating and UV bulb get it?
HexaFox 1 year ago
yo so what do you use at night to heat your dragon and if the red night light is not good for your dragon would a heating pad be good?

so you mean if i use the rep cal, its pointless to have a uvb light? please reply because i might be getting a dragon tommoro and i dont want the store to try to get me to get a lignt if i dont need it
bagbass500 2 years ago
Yes you do. The light helps absorb the powder and give's artificial radiation (UVA & UVB) you're Dragon has to have. The light is more important than the powder.

k hexafox plz reply to this but i live in a basement with no heat in maine and in the winter so what will i need to keep the cool side of the tank warm enough were the beardie wont die? i really need to know fast because im getting him in 3 days!!! thanks

destructo2505 2 years ago
how far should i put the bulb away from my dragon?
henham97 2 years ago
A good 10"-14" away from your Dragons basking area. If you need additional heating through the day just buy small domes and get flood lights from a local department store. There the same thing that you use for reptiles just the box isn't changed and the price isn't jacked up.

yer my room is very warm anyway so it will be warm at night cause i live in spain so very warm at night cause the 100watt bulb in my pet storer is 50 euros wich is a lot so it means im gonna have to spend 50 euros a year on lamps thers is 80 watss 100 watss and 160 watts availble to buy and my tank is just over a meter long not sure on height and the dragon im getting is 4 months old so will everything be ok?
henham97 2 years ago
would a 100watt mercury vapour bulb with uva and uvb be any good for a beared dragon?and would i need any other lighting? and when would i have to change the bulb cause of the uvb?
henham97 2 years ago
and would i have to change the vapour bulb every 6 months?
henham97 2 years ago
The UVA and UVB strip in the bulb will burn out. Sometimes it may last longer than the bulb itself. There is not way to know for sure though. Your Dragon can easily go the another 6 Months w/ out UVA and UVB radiation. Just make sure Your feeding it the correct powder mix and you are changeing the bulb w/ in a reasonable time fram. If you've been useing it over a year and you have the extra money in your pocket buy a new one and keep the old one incase the new one blows out earlier than expected
HexaFox 2 years ago
im gettin a beared dragon in about 3 weeks so would a mercury vapour 100watt uva and uvb be any good and would i need any other lighting?
henham97 2 years ago
Again it depends on how cool the location get's where your Bearded Dragon will be living. The 100 Watt also depends on the cage. If you have a 40 Gallon like me you may want a 120Watt.
HexaFox 2 years ago
In your case you may only have the 160Watt avaliable.
HexaFox 2 years ago
Hi, I'm looking to buy a baby breaded dragon for Christmas and I was looking for the right lighting. If I buy the power sun uv 100 watts what more lighting do I need for the tank? because I know he needs a cool and warm side thanks
iRxSmrt 2 years ago
Nice to hear your interest in Bearded Dragons. If you are useing a 100watt Power Sun in a 40 Gallon Tank you you will not need any additional heating as long as it doesen't get too cool at night. (Use good judgement) Touch the glass at night it should be cool but if it is uncomfortaly cool to touch it you should look into additional heating. Maybe even some through the day but a UVB/UVA PowerSun 100 Watt should mostly do the job for you.
HexaFox 2 years ago
@HexaFox Hey I have a 60 Gallon tank and Im thinking about this setup. 100/150 watt bulb for basking/heating hot side, 60 watt ceramic heat emmiter for coll/night, 10.0 UVB bulb all across the tank. My room gets aroung 65-70 at night and roughly the same in the day, does this sound ok to you???
75thRangers 2 years ago
I have never used a themometer in my whole Bearded Dragon career. They are tough hard climate reptiles that are used to very hot temps in the day and cooler but not too cool during the night. If your tank is glass then you can usually tell by feeling it. The opposite side should be cooler or colder than cool to the touch and the basking side should feel warm. Then if you have any rocks in the cage just make sure they are warm/hot but not to hot to touch. Dragons like very warm rocks.
HexaFox 2 years ago
I can say (opinion) that UVB is more important than UVA because UVB will help your Dragon grow and helps prevent metabolic bone disease. Anything 10.0 is fine you should always look for 10.0 regardless. In a 60 Gallon cage you need to be useing the 150Watt along w/ atleast another 40Watt make sure it's a non-colored flood light that you can buy from Wal*Mart for a little bit of nothing. Just make sure yourt useing it along w/ the correct heating and UVB atleast.

osttoc 2 years ago
Any good professional would give you a straight no. If you mean a normal heating pad a human or dog would use for a pulled muscle then i would not recommend it. Although it can be done but bad things can and probaly will happen. Anyway you shoulden't really use any heating pad's/mat's w/ Dragons. They are more of a crisp dry heat that they can only get from bulbs and such.
HexaFox 2 years ago
but if i mead a wood cage for my dragon
yuop456 2 years ago
Only professionals can do this. Most other people don't know what the hell there doing or what they have to put on the cage. It also takes creativity. If your good at makeing things and understand Bearded Dragons and what care they need go for it. Otherwise you need to be buying a Bearded Dragon cage or a tank like most people do.
HexaFox 2 years ago
can you us the Exo Terra Night Glo for nigh bold it is moon light collard
yuop456 2 years ago
You should not use any kind of bulb that puts off any kind of light at night. It could disturb their day night cycle pretty easily. I recommend useing the bulbs that heat, that put off zero light at night or even an undertank heater. In most cases you don't need anything at night as long as where your Dragon is doesen't get neccasarily cool at night. As long as the glass is close ot room temperature you are fine. In fact the cage should cool down at night.

in your care video you said that you just turn the heat/uvb light off at night, will they be ok with not heat source at night?
LeopardGeckoFry 2 years ago
They don't need heat all through the night. The desert gets cold at night. Just don't let it get below the mid to low 60s. I put a blankie in Anthy's tank for her to sleep in, and during winter she sleeps with me in bed at night. If you need to up the temps, use a ceramic heat emitter, not a "night time" bulb. Those things are awful for them.
NekoNoTsuchi 2 years ago
hey, i don't remember if you said it or not, but what would you suggest for night time heating for bearded dragons? You said not to use infared or black bulbs so i am not sure. i want to buy a tank thats 72x24x13 how many gals is that and i am goign to use a 100 watt powersun 100 watt heat emitter 50watt hologen light for the cool side and a 10.0 12T long floresent bulb also a heat mat is this enought?
xxArcticWolf13Xx 2 years ago
Okay okay, let me think. Sorry i get alot of questions and it's too much to volunteer to help people out so i am trying. My Tank measures 48x24x20 and it is a 40Gallon. So your looking around roughly a 50-70 Gallon Enclosure and your providing way to much heat. When you set up a Dragons cage try to "fry" one area (Make it very hot) and make the other side the cooler end with a water dish. Do not make the water dish too deep though make sure your Dragon can keep it's head above the water.

Obanisty78 2 years ago
what watt murcury vapour should i use for a bearded dragon tank
Obanisty78 2 years ago
If you get a 75Gallon it's going to have a top w/ a plastic divider on top of it. Hang your heat lamps from that and point it to one side of the tank. Cover the other side w/ a beach towel and make sure it is away from the lights and won't catch fire. Make that the cooling end and also the heat will not be able to escape from that end because of the towel and also your Dragon will get plenty of breathing air threw the side that isnt covered (The side w/ the lights) and that would help alot.
HexaFox 2 years ago
Do you think this lighting is ok for a bearded dragon:
1 or 2 reptiglow 10.00( Please say if i should get 1 or 2.)
1 Mercury vapour solar glo 160 watt
and for night a heat glow.
Obanisty78 2 years ago
Would mercury vapor bulb + reptisun 10 be way to much for your beardie? like you said, MVB can burn out but still give off heat, so I just want to know if it would be good.
poopiepants104 2 years ago
They can never absorb to much UVA/UVB but they can however be over heated. It is indeed hard to "overheat" a Dragon espicially to any dangerous level because you will have a cooling end and they will be able to move out of the hot end and "cool down" then return to basking later after they have fed or just get to cold. Use Heat Emitting Bulbs at night to help heat the cage and not stress the Dragon w/ uneeded light.
