What's called a "Modern Liberal" is actually a Democratic Socialist, someone who believes in collectivism. That people shouldn't be allowed to have too much and be highly taxed. To take care of people who don't have enough.
Liberalism though is about Individual Freedom and Responsibility and Equal Opportunity. That the people have the right to live their own lives as long as they are not hurting anyone else with their freedom. Two different ideology's.

The really issue liberals and radicals had with the Iraq War (atleast the sane ones) was that they they didn't believe the military-industrial complex had no desire to spread secularism and progressive ideas (specifically ever since the invasion Trade Unions, Atheist Left-Wing Political Parties have been banned in Iraq and Afghanistan), leftists tend to believe war is backward and primitive and would like the International Courts to have a bigger role

Any fan of the financial collapse which was just ushered in over the last 8 years by the introduction of the 'New Endless War Economy' surely will find themselves in direct opposition to actual modern liberalism- as it would not have allowed such a scheme.
