When I finally got to HR 31. I wanted to see the equipment it takes to upgrade my low rank Rathian armour to its high rank form. When I tried to upgrade it, I only saw the armour sphere option. What should I expect or do?

@LesseZ444 if you rank to much on one section of quest you have to move to the next star like for lvl 2 quests you rank up to 14 then after that you stop ranking so then you have to do the urgent quest cause if you look it sais 1 point before rank up but if you finish urgent quest then you can rank up on that quest

@DeadliestExpert I'm not very sure how it works in tri, but in unite all you need to do is not fire, if you fire the shield will not work, the shield can still deflect screams (although it seems to demonstrate more stamina loss), has for shielding against attacks the shield works on a similar way to the great sword, meaning you can defend but you will take some damage.
Note: Defending attacks is not the smartest thing to do when having very low health.
I would think pick up bowgunning early, and use it when you're hunting someone like Diablos, Rathalos, Rathian, ect. I use S&S, Long sword, bowgun, and hammer all in one character, but I use them wisely, and when they seem fit for the hunt.
I've spent all my time online as blademaster and have pretty much forsaken teh bowgunner although I have a couple of parts plus the Aquamatic spark bowgun set. I've already reached high-rank but is it too late to go to bowgunner or even both?
@9taildfox909 its never to late to take up gunning i toke it up right before high rank but u might want to practice in lower ranks so u dont end up dieing in high rank and geting everyone mad

@wiiveteran21 On the equipment screen, you can see the available ammo types with your current bowgun. Each part has its own separate ammo types that it can use, and they all add up in the final bowgun.
Hey, so i finally got monster hunter tri. I played the psp version mainly as a gunner on a team and I was wondering if i should stick with gunning in this game. I can also use SnS pretty well. Any help or advice will be appreciated

In your description, you say that the slicing ammo cuts off the tail, yet you have yet to do so. Well, I've actually done it a few times, but thats because I paralyze teh monster and fire off several while the tail isn't moving. Also, I find slicing is also great for pushing weaker monsters away (Like Jaggi) when carving because usually the monster recovers right as it explodes and stuns it yet again, sometimes making it fly back a few feet too.
i mean the data shown is insane, who is this game for? because there isnt a kid out there interested in learning that amount of information. there isnt a person in the world that is good enough at simplifying things to make that graph approachable for a gamer.

i have managed to cut of rathians tail with slicing ammo, but it always uses 25-30/30 ammo, so i doubt it could be done with any higher lvl monster then rathian. it does compliment blademasters in tail cutting subquests or hunts to collect tails. it works like a cluster shot. it sticks for a sec, then blows up in a flurry of small blades.
do all heavy bowguns have a shield, cuz i have a full giginox bowgun(dont ask me why)but it says its a heavybowgun but it doesnt have a shield. do u have to have a certain amount of weight to have a shield or do u have to equip something that has teh bowgun like the barroth gun??? plzz tell me cuz the full gigi gun is good(well the way i have set my armor)but i want a shield so plzz answer me....
@kizarny56yr5yujhtrui no, only certain ones do. look for the shield on the barrel. remember there is no guard command when using bowgun, it only works automatically on random attacks from the front if you arent shooting, reloading, drawing, or using an item. it is useful if you need to use a heavy bowgun, but you dont need to block attacks, if you never get in the way of attacks to begin with, so light to meds are better so you can evade more efficiently.
@rynofizzy Back in the early summer time he liked lancing a lot. It wasn't until later he realized it was a totally broken weapon and started lancing less.
wish i knew about this vid before i started to bowgun. it was really complicated to understand at first, even with the monster hunter wiki. i eventually understood what all the numbers and skills meant XD
still experimenting with ammo. like to know a lil on crag. my friend clusted ala's wings no problem, just wondering if crag could do the same kinda damage to the wings since my gun for ala doesn't carry clust.
bowgun in solo is awesome in 5 hours i got an alloy set and 5 complete bowguns (light,med,heavy royal,tropeco) and ive never run out of money or been online its soo fun using all the different parts together (Tropeco barrel noise FTW)
ok.........i hate using pellet shots most of the time because i hit my teamates alot (usually gets em killed D:) and there just too weak, i like using normal lvl 2 and pierce lvl 2, and all elemental shot i can get with my current stock
@StonedBoo you need to get a rare trade. you can get a 4* trade 3 ways. one way requires you to upgrade a fishing boat to a full 3*, then send it out to a fishing spot when it occasionally upgrades further, and hope you get a ATLANTIAN CRAB. the other ways are to hunt rathalos and lagiacrus in the non-mission moga woods in offline, and hope you get a rare item from them.
@SocialDissonance accually i have cut off a tail useing slicing ammo. i cut off about 7 tails so far useing slice. btw how do you get your monster info working about how many you killed? i cant seem to get mine to work...
@zarrurer12 If you want to how many certain types of monsters that you have slayed or captured the monster needs to be in your hunter notes. You can add them by going on a quest and once you have found the certain monster you must open up your hunter notes then hold b with your wii remote then press a once pointing the senor on the monster hold them and drag them to the little box (right bottom corner). Hope this helps!
I'm a bit of a newbie to Monster Hunter, and I have a question. Is the bowgun even that good? Because it's attack is a lot lower than other weapons. Also, I've heard that, when in a group, the role of a gunner is support (like the role of a mage in RPG's.) Does that mean that, on your own, you would fail against bigger monsters?
@ThePokekid78 The bowgun requires a bit extra work to get all the materials for ammo and such. In terms of damage, it's about even with all of the other weapons. Watch my Let's Play, it's usually around the middle of times.

@Beatles4office Rathling Gun+ Frame, Diablos Barrel, Rathling Gun stock. This will give you a huge clip of pierce 1 and normal 2, 3 shots of para 1 (you should be able to get 2 paras off every round), and a large amount of raw.
Try to gem in precision +15, it'll make aiming a lot easier for the pierce shot.

I have a question concerning the Cluster bowgun setup. I'd have asked the GFAQs board but they're sometimes...yeah.
Disregarding the armor (which I can't see as anything but Jhen+ (with a gemmed in RecoilDown3)), some GFAQs people at one point suggested Rathling+ Frame/Barrel, and Agnaktor stock. The problem: no shield, and a rapidfire for a shot you probably won't get to use with this setup. What would you suggest changing the barrel to? I'm thinking of using the Jhen Cannon barrel for pierce.
@SocialDissonance Mmm...that depends heavily on my charm, then. I have doubts as to whether I could fit that in, seeing as I can't check right now. If I recall correctly, a Sniper jewel is +2 points for the Precision skill. On the other hand, those Pierce3s seem nice, since I'll only be using it for Alatreon, Gigginox, and Deviljho. The Devil's Grins doesn't seem so bad either, but...I guess I'll overlook that.

Hey Shepard! I just started gunning (it's all your fault... first SnS, then hammer, now bowgun. I only started after watching your vids). Can you comment on this gun? It's thunderacrus rex frame/devil's grin barrel/chaos wing stock. I use it to fire para 2 (4 shots) and sleep 2 (1 shot). It also fire pierce 1,2,3 so I am using the diablos+ armor (gemmed for recoil+2). I am mainly interested in status gunning.
@SocialDissonance Thanks Shepard! I must be really bad at this.... I unloaded a full pouch of pierce 1 ammo into an online low rank royal ludroth yesterday and it still didn't die =( I think my range may have been way off.
@Azel247 You need to have a little bit of distance to get full power out of pierce. Start of with normal 2 or pellet, then work your way up to using the advanced pierce shots.
@SocialDissonance Will do! I recently found the damage formula, which made me realize that my gun isn't good for solo quests (unless... I bomb like you do... I can gem in bombardier no problem). I will go the normal2->pierce route after my status shots, as you suggested. I won't do pellet since people might rage online.
@SocialDissonance Just letting you know your advice worked great! I am practicing gunning on ian right now. I use normal 2 to break wings/head and switch to pierce1 to finish her off (overpowered gun, but meh). I held back from sleepbombing because that killed her too quickly (sleep->bomb+para->bomb+sleep->bomb = ready to cap)
remember the silencer from MHFU, silencer's were so bad, they did nothing but make recoil better, and you had to attach shields, and guns were 1 part not 3

@quttro123 You're best off using LBB+. It will always do more damage than Wyvern Fire.
It's easy enough to put together a bowgun! The tough part is learning to balance weight and having enough shots for what you want to do. I really need to make a quick side video about bowguns again, I'm always getting asked!
I have a question about the shield- how do you use it? do I have to hold down a certain button? sorry- I dont use shield guns, but i'm close to getting my diablo gun and that's a shield, so i would love to know how to properly use it
@alvarisle i like using shield guns. you don't have to press anything. the only time the shield won't be up is if you are in the middle of reloading, shooting, or just have your gun put away.
I find that u can't actually use it, its more automatic. Even when I don't have auto-guard when I have shield attacks from the front are often blocked, especially long-range shots.
@alvarisle the shield is automatic. as long as you arnt fireing or moving, it blocks hits. its troublesome though, so dont feel like yoru missing out if you ignore it.
@alvarisle using the shield on the bowgun is pretty easy, you just have to do nothing and take the hit. make sure your not reloading or shooting, and just aim at the direction the attack is coming from and you'll be fine, hope that helped, though you may have already found out :)
i heard you say that you would create a list of the most ideal medium bowguns in the game for specific situations. did you ever put that anywhere? because im looking for a good 51+ status medium bowgun im kinda willing to farm so i dont care how hard it is to make.

What alot of people don't think about is cause recovery shots heal monsters too. You can use that to keep a monster alive longer so you can break a certain area.
Say my bowgun says it does 300 damage, does that mean every shot (of the unlimited kind) will do 300? And I have a one piece bowgun by the way, don't know if that makes a difference but it might be important.
i have a problem witht he ammo. I take enough to take up the whole of the ammo slots but then i run out of bullets for any certain type. i bring extra bullets in the item slots of item pouch then swap them over to the bullet slots but they dont appear when i cylcle through the ammo do you know why?
I've never thought about bowguns before... but I've gotten 2 ancient shards and both of them are the aquamatic longshot so I'll checking this video out to see whether the gun is worth keeping! I've been told that the uragaan armor is good for gunning... do you recommend that as well?

I usually prefer medium bowguns with a shield, but I usually am not able to rapid fire or shoot certain bullets. Bullets also cost alot to make.buy....Is there an easier way to get bullets?
@Biotasm Buy bullets when they're on sale. It's more expensive to make them from scratch than it is to buy them. Only combine in the field to make more bullets to use for that mission.

i have managed to cut of rathians tail with slicing ammo, but it always uses 25-30/30 ammo, so i doubt it could be done with any higher lvl monster then rathian. it does compliment blademasters in tail cutting subquests or hunts to collect tails. it works like a cluster shot. it sticks for a sec, then blows up in a flurry of small blades.

do all heavy bowguns have a shield, cuz i have a full giginox bowgun(dont ask me why)but it says its a heavybowgun but it doesnt have a shield. do u have to have a certain amount of weight to have a shield or do u have to equip something that has teh bowgun like the barroth gun??? plzz tell me cuz the full gigi gun is good(well the way i have set my armor)but i want a shield so plzz answer me....

@kizarny56yr5yujhtrui no, only certain ones do. look for the shield on the barrel. remember there is no guard command when using bowgun, it only works automatically on random attacks from the front if you arent shooting, reloading, drawing, or using an item. it is useful if you need to use a heavy bowgun, but you dont need to block attacks, if you never get in the way of attacks to begin with, so light to meds are better so you can evade more efficiently.

wish i knew about this vid before i started to bowgun. it was really complicated to understand at first, even with the monster hunter wiki. i eventually understood what all the numbers and skills meant XD
still experimenting with ammo. like to know a lil on crag. my friend clusted ala's wings no problem, just wondering if crag could do the same kinda damage to the wings since my gun for ala doesn't carry clust.

Well, it depends.
If you want a light bowgun, don't use a folding frame. It makes you sheath and un-sheath slowly, completely removing any point to having one.
With medium bowguns, you can have a folding or non-folding frame. Its useful to have a non-folding, but folding is okay too.
For heavy bowguns, I HIGHLY suggest a shield. You move slowly even if its a non-folding frame, so you really need a shield to dodge some attacks.
The heavier the gun, the stronger (not all the time)

bowgun in solo is awesome in 5 hours i got an alloy set and 5 complete bowguns (light,med,heavy royal,tropeco) and ive never run out of money or been online its soo fun using all the different parts together (Tropeco barrel noise FTW)

ok.........i hate using pellet shots most of the time because i hit my teamates alot (usually gets em killed D:) and there just too weak, i like using normal lvl 2 and pierce lvl 2, and all elemental shot i can get with my current stock

@StonedBoo you need to get a rare trade. you can get a 4* trade 3 ways. one way requires you to upgrade a fishing boat to a full 3*, then send it out to a fishing spot when it occasionally upgrades further, and hope you get a ATLANTIAN CRAB. the other ways are to hunt rathalos and lagiacrus in the non-mission moga woods in offline, and hope you get a rare item from them.

@SocialDissonance accually i have cut off a tail useing slicing ammo. i cut off about 7 tails so far useing slice. btw how do you get your monster info working about how many you killed? i cant seem to get mine to work...

@zarrurer12 If you want to how many certain types of monsters that you have slayed or captured the monster needs to be in your hunter notes. You can add them by going on a quest and once you have found the certain monster you must open up your hunter notes then hold b with your wii remote then press a once pointing the senor on the monster hold them and drag them to the little box (right bottom corner). Hope this helps!

I'm a bit of a newbie to Monster Hunter, and I have a question. Is the bowgun even that good? Because it's attack is a lot lower than other weapons. Also, I've heard that, when in a group, the role of a gunner is support (like the role of a mage in RPG's.) Does that mean that, on your own, you would fail against bigger monsters?

@ThePokekid78 The bowgun requires a bit extra work to get all the materials for ammo and such. In terms of damage, it's about even with all of the other weapons. Watch my Let's Play, it's usually around the middle of times.

@Beatles4office Rathling Gun+ Frame, Diablos Barrel, Rathling Gun stock. This will give you a huge clip of pierce 1 and normal 2, 3 shots of para 1 (you should be able to get 2 paras off every round), and a large amount of raw.
Try to gem in precision +15, it'll make aiming a lot easier for the pierce shot.

I have a question concerning the Cluster bowgun setup. I'd have asked the GFAQs board but they're sometimes...yeah.
Disregarding the armor (which I can't see as anything but Jhen+ (with a gemmed in RecoilDown3)), some GFAQs people at one point suggested Rathling+ Frame/Barrel, and Agnaktor stock. The problem: no shield, and a rapidfire for a shot you probably won't get to use with this setup. What would you suggest changing the barrel to? I'm thinking of using the Jhen Cannon barrel for pierce.

@AntarieI They're expecting you to use almost entirely cluster shot level 2, as that's the most sustainable type of shot of the cluster type.
As for a secondary shot, it depends on the monster you're hunting. Pierce 3 is only really good on Jhen, and Deviljho or Alatreon to some extent.
If you can fit in precision +2, the Diablos barrel is a great fit as it has a shield and large amounts of normal 2/pierce 1 (great standbys)

@SocialDissonance Mmm...that depends heavily on my charm, then. I have doubts as to whether I could fit that in, seeing as I can't check right now. If I recall correctly, a Sniper jewel is +2 points for the Precision skill. On the other hand, those Pierce3s seem nice, since I'll only be using it for Alatreon, Gigginox, and Deviljho. The Devil's Grins doesn't seem so bad either, but...I guess I'll overlook that.
Thanks for the advice, though! I'll see if I can get that to work. :D

Hey Shepard! I just started gunning (it's all your fault... first SnS, then hammer, now bowgun. I only started after watching your vids). Can you comment on this gun? It's thunderacrus rex frame/devil's grin barrel/chaos wing stock. I use it to fire para 2 (4 shots) and sleep 2 (1 shot). It also fire pierce 1,2,3 so I am using the diablos+ armor (gemmed for recoil+2). I am mainly interested in status gunning.

@Azel247 You need to have a little bit of distance to get full power out of pierce. Start of with normal 2 or pellet, then work your way up to using the advanced pierce shots.

@SocialDissonance Will do! I recently found the damage formula, which made me realize that my gun isn't good for solo quests (unless... I bomb like you do... I can gem in bombardier no problem). I will go the normal2->pierce route after my status shots, as you suggested. I won't do pellet since people might rage online.

@SocialDissonance Just letting you know your advice worked great! I am practicing gunning on ian right now. I use normal 2 to break wings/head and switch to pierce1 to finish her off (overpowered gun, but meh). I held back from sleepbombing because that killed her too quickly (sleep->bomb+para->bomb+sleep->bomb = ready to cap)

remember the silencer from MHFU, silencer's were so bad, they did nothing but make recoil better, and you had to attach shields, and guns were 1 part not 3

@quttro123 You're best off using LBB+. It will always do more damage than Wyvern Fire.
It's easy enough to put together a bowgun! The tough part is learning to balance weight and having enough shots for what you want to do. I really need to make a quick side video about bowguns again, I'm always getting asked!

I find that u can't actually use it, its more automatic. Even when I don't have auto-guard when I have shield attacks from the front are often blocked, especially long-range shots.

@alvarisle using the shield on the bowgun is pretty easy, you just have to do nothing and take the hit. make sure your not reloading or shooting, and just aim at the direction the attack is coming from and you'll be fine, hope that helped, though you may have already found out :)

What alot of people don't think about is cause recovery shots heal monsters too. You can use that to keep a monster alive longer so you can break a certain area.

i have a problem witht he ammo. I take enough to take up the whole of the ammo slots but then i run out of bullets for any certain type. i bring extra bullets in the item slots of item pouch then swap them over to the bullet slots but they dont appear when i cylcle through the ammo do you know why?

I usually prefer medium bowguns with a shield, but I usually am not able to rapid fire or shoot certain bullets. Bullets also cost alot to make.buy....Is there an easier way to get bullets?

@Biotasm Buy bullets when they're on sale. It's more expensive to make them from scratch than it is to buy them. Only combine in the field to make more bullets to use for that mission.
