I saw them in a small club called The Strand in Redondo Beach, Ca. in late 1981. They were awesome! I first learned about them when I performed in a jazz band in high school. The trumpeter in the band, Jerry Ansel, had an 8-track of them in his car, and we listened to this song over and over. Still a great memory.
these guys were the 1st concerti went to,early70si was 14.they were warmin up CCR@the cincinati gardens.got my 1st stinky finger there.god, what a great memohy.farfuckinout!!!!!!!!!!

dude i am 51 too. when this song was on the charts in july 1972.a good friend of mine got run over almost in front of his house, tommy donlon sept 14 1957-july 24 1972.i still miss him so much.when i hear this song i want to cry.we were 14 at the time,i still recall going alone to his grave right after he died,in fact the flowers were just taken off his grave,i had an old transistor radio on me. and this song came on.tommy i still miss you,and when my time comes, please come and take me with you.
Thanks for posting this version, its one of my favorite recordings of this song...I still remember being a child with Uncle Mimi (emilio castillo) on the stage dedicating this song to my grandfather and the audience going crazy. Good memories.
Tower of Power were just GREAT musicians and this is one of the best of many GREAT jams they laid in the early '70's. For this Pure East Bay Grease, Bump City, Down to the Nightclub, you've got to go Back To Oakland!!!
One of the baddest horn sections ever... these guys played with heart and soul man. I remember moms and pops playin' this stuff all the time while I was growing up. One of my all-time faves, thanks for posting this.
Truly grown folks music, a blast from the past; the Tower has kept and even REFINED its groove--check out their 2007 North Sea concert, it's unbelievebly good...from an old schooler.
when i was a kid , my mother had a tower of power tape that i loved , never payed any attention to the names of the songs , i've been trying to figure out this song they did , i barely remember it but i do remember in the middle song there was the most awesome trombone solo that omg blew me away , i remember rewinding that part so manytimes , could anyone please list some songs of great tower power songs that had great trombone solos , please someone help me out
Man this is a tru tru classic! ... This kinda music was the story of our life back then. What great golden singers and musicians we had and the dancing to this music was like incredible love making - we held each other so tight with all our might!
I take that back. The best part of the song is at the end when he says "I'll never ever do you wrong". That part makes me melt. From a single woman's perspective, that is what is missing with the young men of today. They don't really show the woman how much they appreciate them.
Dame i finaly found this song!!!! After looking for it for so long i finally found it !!! This song came out in a George lopez episode when George left the house cus he couldnt live with hsi mom any longer !! lol i love that show!!
I WAS a young man when this TOP song came out. I love to crank up the stereo on the opening brass....sooo powerful! I'm 62, now and still a young man. Thanks to my dad and grand-dad for good genes! They both made it to 100! Carpe Diem..........
See that's what I need. An older gentleman than myself that can appreciate good music and recognizes that he is still young. These young guys aren't hitting on nothing nowadays. Good luck to you.
My fav song in the world!!!!!! The CUT version they play on the radio is sooooooooooooo fu@cked up! WHY WHY WHY would they cut this song!!!!!!!!! THIS is how it was MEANT to be heard!
this song helped me get in bed with my 35 year-old boss. I was 21 at the time, so that was kind of a big deal. She was really hot. God bless older women.

Hey dog i just ran across your comments.
How could anyone compare Chicago to T.O.P.
I like what you said plus TOP had better musicians who performed in to hard-core jazz.
Chicago stayed in to the pop/mainstream genre' which is safe to hide "no talent".
I am glad you have good ears!
