  • Great music, great harmony and a great lead singer. Thanks for posting this song.

  • I saw them in a small club called The Strand in Redondo Beach, Ca. in late 1981. They were awesome! I first learned about them when I performed in a jazz band in high school. The trumpeter in the band, Jerry Ansel, had an 8-track of them in his car, and we listened to this song over and over. Still a great memory.

  • these guys were the 1st concerti went to,early70si was 14.they were warmin up CCR@the cincinati gardens.got my 1st stinky finger there.god, what a great memohy.farfuckinout!!!!!!!!!!

  • Man, the vocals on this are just gut-wrenching.

That guy was a incredible singer.

    Tragic story with him.

  • The Latin Breed also played it at an award concert in Texas. That one was done with the city's symphony with strings included. Look for it at PURA VIDA AWARDS 1995. It was a medley of different songs.

  • Do you mean Rick Stevens is dead? What a tragic life!

  • There is absolutely no mention anywhere on the internet that Rick Stevens has passed away, only that he is still incarcerated. Can you elaborate?

  • I can't please read my most recent comment. Thank you.

  • damn it, love this song..reminds me when i was still a young man back in the 70's. then there's sparkling in the sand, too! TOP is TOPs!!!

  • Is That Lenny Williams singing lead? TOP went through quite a few vocalists.

  • It's Rick Stevens.

  • im looking this song long time i cant find it so thanks to you cube. i remember again my memories ......... More power

  • Thanks for posting this version, its one of my favorite recordings of this song...I still remember being a child with Uncle Mimi (emilio castillo) on the stage dedicating this song to my grandfather and the audience going crazy. Good memories.

  • Tower of Power were just GREAT musicians and this is one of the best of many GREAT jams they laid in the early '70's. For this Pure East Bay Grease, Bump City, Down to the Nightclub, you've got to go Back To Oakland!!!

  • So much love to the Bay Area and West Coast all together man. Maze & Frankie Bev, T.O.P, aww we could go on for days my friend. Love from the South.

  • I think amost every man can relate to this song...whether it was a crush that we had with a baby sitter or a freind of an older sister :)

  • reminds me of george lopez..cuz on his latest dvd..its a broken hearted mans song..lol

  • This is as good as it gets..........

  • SING THAT SHIT RICK!!!

  • in the words of George Lopez:

" Turn it off, man. Turn it Off!!!"

  • Truly grown folks music, a blast from the past; the Tower has kept and even REFINED its groove--check out their 2007 North Sea concert, it's unbelievebly good...from an old schooler.

  • Songs like this are never forgotten!

  • Man this is a tru tru classic! ... This kinda music was the story of our life back then. What great golden singers and musicians we had and the dancing to this music was like incredible love making - we held each other so tight with all our might!

  • LMFAO! i've been looking for this since I heard it on the george lopez america's mexican standup dvd. I'm gonna set it as my ringtone now lol.

  • Hahaha.

    George Lopez.

  • I take that back. The best part of the song is at the end when he says "I'll never ever do you wrong". That part makes me melt. From a single woman's perspective, that is what is missing with the young men of today. They don't really show the woman how much they appreciate them.

  • I'm still a young man.

  • 4 junebug aka angel

  • Mic Gillette came to our band camp and played this twice for us with the Martin Brothers (Stan, Scott, and Andy). It was AMAZING.

  • Dame i finaly found this song!!!! After looking for it for so long i finally found it !!! This song came out in a George lopez episode when George left the house cus he couldnt live with hsi mom any longer !! lol i love that show!!

  • I WAS a young man when this TOP song came out. I love to crank up the stereo on the opening brass....sooo powerful! I'm 62, now and still a young man. Thanks to my dad and grand-dad for good genes! They both made it to 100! Carpe Diem..........

  • See that's what I need. An older gentleman than myself that can appreciate good music and recognizes that he is still young. These young guys aren't hitting on nothing nowadays. Good luck to you.

  • Always my favorite. Saw them in Hawaii . . . oh, oh . . . my age is showing ;)

  • hehe..im 19 and i love their song...

wish i can also see them perform live

  • tower of power has always been underrated. people here in the philippines think they're overshadowed by chicago. well, i seriously don't think so. TOP has cohesion, crisp blending, and brassy background, which makes them so distinct.

  • Hey dog i just ran across your comments.

How could anyone compare Chicago to T.O.P.

I like what you said plus TOP had better musicians who performed in to hard-core jazz.

Chicago stayed in to the pop/mainstream genre' which is safe to hide "no talent".

I am glad you have good ears!

  • This song swings baybeh

  • we play this in our school-bigband^^ it's great

  • April 5th - - Elmira, NY. Can't hardly contain myself.

  • ...one of my favorites...thanks so much.

  • NICE THIS SONG OOOOOO BOI GROWN N SEXY

  • Listen to the 2 saxes building up in the intro. I'll always treasure good music. Rare little nuggets like this here.

  • Always the best slow dance in the 70's...

  • This is my FAVORITE song. My favorite part is when he says "Because IIIIIII Loooove YOU-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo!!!!!"

  • ThaMCE,

Next to the intro, that's my favorite part of the song.

  • i like this song

  • Orale or something...

  • i rember i was flipping through the radio and this song came out the day I asked my fiancee now my wife to marry me

  • sept 14 1957--- july 24 1972, he was still a young man,

  • july 1972, i recall this song well a good freind of mine died july 24 1972, tommy donlon in waltham mass. by accident, when god called he went home. this song was on the top 20 in boston mass when tommy died. thank you tower of power a great song, when i hear this i think of tommy donlon, tommy is buried in calvery cemetary in waltham mass.

  • HELL YEA.1

  • great song .

  • this song is inspirational

  • There is no songs like this anymore... Your still A young Man - So very Hard to Go - even Distant Lover from Marvin - Let Me Make Love to You by the Ojay's - There is nothing like this anymore - If you play all the old school tunes they have there own style - If you play 100 of the new songs today 80 of them sound the same...

  • Thank you for posting this hot-mad crazy-slow song I used to dance with my high school sweet heart and later husband.

  • How many times have we all wished for the days of cool to come back. Doo wop, clean cars, suits, and fine women. And oh man, Sunday at the parks jamming...not on a radio but LIVE, acapella and with our own instruments. Anybody remember that ? CM out.

  • Rick Stevens did a wonderful job on a splendid ballad by

T.O.P.the sound sure has the makings of Lenny. It seems like Emilio, had the great fortune of finding some real good

singers, because they never skipped a beat. I just love the TOWER OF POWER!!!

  • The singers name on this song is and was RICK STEVENS.... what a shame, he had so much to give to his fans and more importantly to himself... let this be a lesson to those of you who think you can control 'drugs' instead of the other way around... Peace

  • The singer was Ray....something. Someone please get out the East Bay Grease album and read it and announce it to us. Also is he still up at Soledad or did they move him? Where is Lenny too? Drug issue maybe. I hope not.

  • Lenny is STILL doing music w/out the beard & sideburns, lol

  • The singer was not Lenny who was it? I forgot his name. He was in Soledad prison for many years. I knew someone in the 70's who served time with him and sd he was the most dangerous man in prison period. No one messed with him. And he sang this song. Amazing

  • Wow. I never knew that. This song is a little before my time but I have always loved it. Now I like it even more.

  • What an amazing song about misguided love. Tower of Power=Amazingness.

  • The singer is not Lenny Williams I forgot. It was Ray ____ and he was dangerous man in life but he has this song. God Bless him.

  • Lenny Williams also sung lead on "WHAT IS HIP ?" in addition to(my earlier post)"SO VERY HARD TO GO"..Im almost poitive he was the NEXT lead singer after this LEAD SINGER was arrested

  • This ballad is in the top 50 pop ballads ever written. I won't debate it. The singer (Williams) has had a very chequered past but it doesn't matter now.

  • i think THIS dude is doing life n a CALIFORNIA STATE PEn for a 187(murder).some crazy stuff went down..Lenny Williams replaced him, sung lead on the album w/"SO VERY HARD TO GO"

  • I'm SOOOOO glad I grew up on this stuff and Zep and Gaye and Spirit and Jobim than the crap today. This band was AWESOME and this song cut through to the heart. What a lead vocal!! What drama!!!

  • a song with a very important message to all the youngsters that are caught up in gang activities.

  • Yupp, I hear ya!

  • I took my sisters to their concert. When he sang this song it was so emotional and beautiful that we all cried. They influenced so many of todays rock stars......Oakland funk

  • This song is no joke. I never get tired of hearing it, unlike the crappy music of today. Tower Of Power is da bomb!

  • Is; Was; and Always!

  • Beautiful!

  • i LOVE iT!!!

  • dont get much better

  • Tower of Power kicks ass, where do you think the current R&B and Hip Hop get some of their music from. The music that came from before them. 70's music is sampled so many times!!! Plus music is subjective, so to say something sucks, is purely your own feelings.

  • Kick Ass Band and Song.... Miss Groups like this.... Real Music.....

  • Loved this song when i was a little kid. Still love it.

  • WGJ1 waste of dna

  • Don't waste your time!

  • remember that! great music!
