I would cut howe's hair, put chris on a diet, tell benoit not to dress like a hobbit (it aint cool anymore and makes them look like a tribute band as if he was imitating jon), I would also fire white and hire someone like marco minnemann, fucking virgil donati or maybe terry bozzio, and tell oliver to use his dads full 70's equipment... anyway, they are all amazing musicians and deserve everybodys respect..!
Listen: Jon Anderson is irreplaceable, but David Benoit is seriously talented, and deserves yes fans' full support. He has an amazing voice, and is filling some serious shoes. It would have been unfair to him to have accepted Jon back at half-capacity and booted David, when he's been so good for Yes. I think we'll really see his mettle when the new album comes out!!!!
Hey, guys, stop sending me messages about Rick Wakeman, I wrote that post a year ago and now am quite attuned to Oliver being in this vid, k? Sorry! But I don't need any more corrections!
In fact Anderson slowed the band through the past few years. So it is understandable to me that a band that still has fun playing their music is searching for a replacement that sounds as good as Benoît did. What would be the alternative? Bury themselves cause one member is not there? I for myself would prefer playing as long as I could and like to. But the funeral is the opinion for all the self-declared experts and purists. That sucks. Long live Yes
I've been listening to Yes for more than 30 years. In fact, the tempo is very close to the original recording in 1972. The whole song is played very tight. To listen is just fun. How many of the old bands can do their stuff as good as Yes did this evening? And what I don't understand is the discussion of all the self-declared "experts" and purists about Yes don't beeing Yes without Anderson. Benoît did a very good job. Show me other singers that sound that similar to Jon. In fact Anderson slowe
No disrespect to Oliver Wakeman, he is a better player than me by any stretch of the imagination, but I've got to say, and this is only my opinion, that he is the worst keyboard player Yes have ever had. In fact, this whole line-up is the worst incarnation of Yes.
Its getting close to 10 years since we had a Yes studio album too; there's only so many times you can keep listening to the same music guys! Get in the bloody studio and DO SOMETHING!
people seem too be commenting on audience recordings and soundboards and making the judgement that this tour WASN'T yes but anyone, me included, who attended one of the in the present shows will agree that the concert experience the sound and the players WERE the real yes experience, yes it wasn't like attending yessongs but it was my first yesshow (hopefully not my last) and it was one of the best concert experiences ive ever had
This brought tears to my eyes!!! I saw them live in 1976 at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City New Jersey. Which was simulcast on WNEW-FM. I still have the concert program!!
What memories this has brought to life. Thanks for posting
This is not Yes. This is nothing more than a tribute band. It's really sad to see this. Give it up guys please. I don't want to remember it like this.
@drumkey, heh, People were saying that about Yes 25 years ago, Iv'e been saying that about them the day they were finished making The Yes Album, Fragile, and Close to The Edge....that would be the day Bruford left as the playing suffered tremendously after that. Still have gone to their shows and bought their records tho.
hey drum...going to see them Friday...and after seeing this vid...I'm lowering my expectations...but I don't think we have to go "tribute" band route...I mean it is Wakemans son...Squire...White...but I am going to see a guy I could NEVER be as good as a guitarist....HOWE....Yes it is not YES....close enough for me and they are getting old and so am I but I love this friggin MUSIC....I have memories too...and I want one more...I'm gonna see Howe play 10 feet away from me...that I will remember
Although no Jon Anderson, this guy does "pull it off" I would love to see 'em just to see Mr. Wakeman again. I'm old, I've seen them more times than I can count, as well as all the great spin-off bands! Great rendition! Wakeman still looks cool (hey Rick, where's the cape?)
I've envious that I couldn't see this performance last year in NYC. Even without Anderson performing with the band, the song is still as great as it was when it was first released.
Oh well, he has the same vocal range but sounds NOTHING like Jon Anderson. It might be a good thing, If this music is to survive someone else gotta start playing it. The problem is that this singer in particular lacks Anderson's conviction in delivering the words, regardless of how silly they might actually be.
yeah he sounds EXACTLY like anderson. but right now anderson is touring solo on his own which makes it seem like there's a bit of a schism between him and the rest of the group that may not heal soon

This is what got people out of their seat when I saw then play in Dec 2008. That and And You and I. Benoit hit all the high notes for the most part.

Either I'm nuts, or they are talking about Jesus and The Passion and His Mother.
This is beautiful, for an audience vid. Thank you.
