  • Julia beats all these !!

  • 1.Yes it Is 2.Yesterday 3.While my Guitar Gently Weeps 4.She's Leaving Home 5.I'm a Loser 6.Eleanor Rigby 7.You've got to Hide Your Love Away 8.For No One 9.Because 10.Norwegian Wood

  • Yes it Is is the saddest in my opinion.

  • You forgot "The Long and Winding Road" & "Let it Be"

  • You forgot "The Long and Winding Road" & "Let it Be"

  • you got to hide your love away isn't sad

  • "You never give me your money" and "I will" should be on here!

  • I forgot how upbeat "Let It Be" is. Thanks for reminding me. Also, fuck "Yesterday"

  • my top 12 sad beatle songs: 12:youve got to hide your love away 11:yes it is 10:no reply 9:norwegian wood(THIS BIRD HAS FLOWN) 8.while my guitar gently weeps 7.let it be 6.for no one 5.elanor rigby 4.yesterday 3.ill follow the sun 2. black bird 1!THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD!!!
  • @winters0924 Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) is not sad is sly. IMHO

  • allright, but

    1. yesterday

    2. you've got to hide your love away

  • Julia is heartbreaking.

  • what about day in the life? fool on the hill? long and winding road? i think those should replace norwegian wood, yesterday, and im a loser for sure

  • Eleanor Rigby is a good choice. A masterpiece, but dismal as hell.

  • I love the Beatles

  • I think you missed The Long and Winding Road there. And if based on your list, I think no 1 is For No One

  • norwegian wood isn't sad

  • what about alone on a hill??

  • @osucowboys11 it's called the fool on the hill

  • Nearly cry with the vid

    Good List

  • "The world is treating me bad, MISERY...."

  • what about Anna (Go to Him)? that's a pretty sad song

  • @GothPrincessLyss yes but in his case it's there actual songs they wrote

  • what about Anna (Go to Him)? that's a pretty sad song

  • didn't have oh darling ?

  • that version of while my gitar gently weeps is sad.

  • Nowhere Man isn't sad enough?

  • I love all the Beatles songs. sad, happy or psychedelic. all of them are pure masterpieces, simply beautiful.

  • Eleanor Rigby is a much sadder song than Yesterday. Yesterday is about one man's sorrow; Eleanor Rigby deals with the sorrow of millions of people.

  • Loved it :)

  • HEAR she is leaving home! faul says wed morning at 5 am pauls car crash!!

  • This is no responce really,it's just to say a big,big thank you to the dedicated people who find the time to track all these classics from the 60s,to take us back to our youth, when the music was absolutly suberb, these songs will carry on till the earth ends & beyond. To you people we owe a big dept we can never thankyou enough. That goes for all songs from the 60s oh man

I would be satisfied with just one day going back in time just to hear the songs of my generation before I die.

  • He only had one of those cause the Anthology/Love version isn't really a full Beatles recording to me.

  • While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Eleanor Rigby. A Day In The Life. Because. Revolution 9. Strawberry Fields.

    THEY ALL TIE!!!

  • @glasspurpleeyes Thanks for the comment. WMGGW I agree with you on. However, not the Clapton studio version, which doesn't sound genuine to me. Eleanor Rigby, I obviously agree. A Day in the Life, I disagree, though this one has recently become popular in the comment section. Because I would say absolutely not. Revolution 9 absolutely not. Strawberry Fields I disagree, but not 100% the way I do for the previous two. But I'm glad I heard your opinion, it was certainly an interesting list.

  • megaman28168 Mother is a john lennon solo song from his plastic ono band album, which is the greatest album of all time in my opinion. Its not a Beatles song

  • I think mother is the saddest Beatle song

  • The saddest Beatles song is The End.

  • yesterday i knew paul made the most touching song ever

  • Julia,good night,or don't pass me by

  • No "A day in the life"??? wtf

  • what aboutr rocky raccoon that one is sad

  • right...

  • i disagree with number one shes leaving home would be my number one

  • Great picks and interesting top-10 category for The lads.

Eleanor Rigby would be my #1

  • Girl is also a pretty sad song from the rubber soul album.

  • I find it funny that all the John songs are in the beginning, and the Paul songs end it. Just guess Paul was better at writing sad songs. Yesterday might be one of the saddest songs that stilll makes you smile.

  • Dang they made a lot of great songs

    Sometimes I forget

  • I think She's leaving home should be no. 1. A truly sad and touching song, again and again.

  • Hey Jude should be number one. I mean, it's not even on the list! Eleanor Rigby it's not a sad song. Is a mistery song about sad things but I don't think it should be tag as ''sad''.

  • "He's a real nowhere man, sitting in his nowehere land, making all his nowhere plans for nobody. Doesn't have a point of view, knows not where he's going to, isn't he a bit like you and me?" Nowhere Man is such a sad song! Doesn't it just make you feel the lonliness of the Nowhere Man? Should be up there with Eleanor Rigby. I also think Help! should be on here.

  • i dont really think "i'm a loser" is really to be considered sad...

  • Listen to the LOVE version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"! More sad than the antology version ;)

  • Where's Rocky Raccoon?

  • I wouldn't have called these songs 'sad' necessarily. More introspective and inward-looking perhaps...

  • I'm glad Yes It Is made it on. That song almost made me cry at the inbetween the lines of it. For being a "rewrite of This Boy"

  • norwegian wood? its more happy relaxing and nice

  • Here Today!?!?!?

  • @JennaBabes123 that was Paul's solo work.

  • A day in the life?

    Julia?

    I'm looking through you?

  • norwegian hood sad? why? it talks about opium

  • In my place I would Include "In My Life"

  • Break out the tissues!

  • I think you missed one crucial song that should be on this list.

    /watch?v=J6iAykoKLog

  • @australianproud Thanks for the comment! Actually, that song is on my list.

  • Comment removed

  • @BeatleBard OH WOW! I totally must have skipped the song, my apologies! I just re-watched the video and heard it. Sorry mate lol

  • @australianproud The song is there 2:36

  • I'd have to include baby's in black, in my life and the long and winding road

  • How can you not include "Nowhere Man"?

  • I was about to reprimand you on your top ten saddest songs, but you got it, She's Leaving home. It is hard for me to listen to this song without getting teared up. Who knows some people may cry when they here Rocky Racoon.

  • @scottdavis0801 i always cry when i hear rocky raccoon, i think we can all relate to rocky

  • 1:54 ? what is that one? ;;

  • @VotzSKiLLioN It is "Yes it Is"

  • the beatles have (at least) 2 songs for every mood u can be in.

  • Norwegian Wood is more reflective than sad, I think.

  • Eleanor Rigby is the saddest one!

  • Where the f*** is blackbird!!

  • i think to me dear prudence is sad.

  • I have been listening to the beatles for 5 years now and im only 12, and i would say the saddest song would have to be "a day in the life"

  • What happened to The Long and Winding Road?

  • "Thank you Ringo, that was wonderful." at the end after Yesterday. Paul sang Yesterday.

  • @cpsrisri123 Thanks for the comment! Actually, it was a joke. After such a moving performance, it was humorously ironic for John to thank the wrong person.

  • @BeatleBard the irony wasnt that John thanked the wrong person. John thanked him because all the Beatles left except Paul and Ringo so he thanks him for his performance as a drummer thus the irony because he didnt play anything

  • Saddest song!!!! THE END!!!

  • She's Leaving Home..saddest to me.

  • @basenjib123 I agree<3

  • Julia should've been there

  • Nice list though. It's not easy to make a top ten of anything when it comes to The Beatles.

  • In My Life, The Fool on the Hill, Something (not sad in lyrics but you know what I mean), The Long and Winding Road (Original version)

  • Yer Blues is the most deppressing song in the world, but i still luv it

  • Good vid,but i think you miss "Yer Blues","...yes I'm lonely,wanna die"!!

  • In fact, most of these songs wouldn't be classed as truly sad by me. I tend to class a song as truly sad if the inspiration/theme beneath the song were based on something sad or negative for example. 'Julia' for example is a sad song, because it's Lennon singing about his mother whom was killed when he was only 17, although there's the slight hint of his affection towards Yoko. I'd also say songs like 'The Long And Winding Road', 'Carry That Weight' or even 'For No One', I mean, yeah.

  • I'm A Loser is simply a Dylan-style tribute song, having met him around the time of this album's production and release. Though interpretable as sad, I don't think it is at all seeing as it wasn't written with that undertone/theme. That's the same with 'Yer Blues' too actually.

  • Good Night is very sad to me.

  • Norwegian wood is not sad.

  • Where is The Long and Winding Road?!?! That's probably the saddest Beatles song ever!

  • #10 run for your life #9 fixing a hole #8 penny lane #7 Eleanor rigby #6 good night #5 she's leaving home #4 the long and winding road #3 it won't be long (not about a girl but about johns mother) #2 julia #1 in my life PS these songs preferably heard in MONO
  • How is the long and winding road not on here?

  • in my life, julia, the long and winding road, let it be all very sad songs in my book

  • where is julia? i think that one is very sad

  • Julia.

  • Oops, double entry. (giggity)!!

  • Dude, "misery"--- perhaps, "not a second time"? I'm goin by lyrics not just sad music in my choices of sad Beatle songs.

  • Dude, "Misery"! I'm thinkin of kinda sad lyrics, not really sad music. "not a second time" perhaps?

  • What about Yellow Submarine?!!?

  • what about Don't let me down??

  • saddest song for no one, no question about it

  • there were more sadder songs than just that like "Let It Be". trust me this is the only band I truly listen to and I heard almost all there songs and there were more songs sadder than that. And one more thing. Four words: A Day In Life

  • @brezeggae1 Thanks for the comment. I've actually been extremely familiar with all of the Beatles material for years, and so there's no song that escaped my radar when I made this list. I disagree with "Let it Be". It has sad vibes, but it is overall hopeful. A Day in the Life has Paul's little ditty in the middle, making it fail to hit this list, but John's bits might have made it.

  • @brezeggae1

A Day In THE Life; five words. :p

  • @brezeggae1 Agreed. "A Day in the Life" really should be on this list.

  • Thank you for putting MY FAVORITE version of "guitar gently weeps" and Elanor Rigby

  • Where is Julia ?

  • #1--In My Life, #2--Yesterday, not really a Beatle song to me. Ask Sir George Martin!

How bout Nowhere Man, I'm a Loser or Baby's in Black!!

  • @tesladude2001 Thanks for the comment! "I'm a Loser" is on the list. As for "Baby's in Black," you've got a good point. That could've made the list. Definitely would've made my 11-13.

  • @BeatleBard The producer is definitely an often forgotten part of a band that is critical. A good producer can help an artist shape is song into a masterpiece.

  • @tesladude2001 Nowhere Man is very fucking sad when you think about it.

  • @tesladude2001 George Martin is a beatle, if not, what the hell are him?

  • Let it be is a sad song I geuss, but a sad Beatles song? ahno.

  • What about "The Long and Winding Road"?

  • Should of Put Let it be in it that would of been 1st

  • Why don't you put Let It Be in???? That song is pretty sad.

  • your top three is oh so right..i dont know if it is exactly in the order but those songs always make me shed a tear!

  • This boy and I've just seen a face is probably a sad song to a broken hearted boy/girl.... Just saying. But yesterday really puts me in a down mood so I think it's #1 saddest song of all their songs for me at least.

  • this bird has flown is most sertanly not about an affair

  • @lalalovesbeatles2 According to the book Beatles Anthology on pg 196: "John: 'Norwegian Wood' was about an affair I was having. I was very careful and paranoid because I didn't want my wife, Cyn, to know that there really was something going on outside the household" So it actually was, and he had affairs before Yoko.

  • @BeatleBard true an affair with yoko while still married to cinthia

  • @BeatleBard You forgot let it be

  • @clubpenLily55555 Thanks for the comment! Actually, no, I just considered the overall mood of "Let it Be" to be hopeful as opposed to sad.

  • oh for no one MUST be the saddest. even sadder than eleanor rigby. so what? she dies.... thats it.

  • What about Julia it's about Johns dead mom?

  • something??????? something is one of the saddest love songs

  • number 4 i listened to while driving from school.

  • 8. I'm so tired

    9. Long, long, long

    10. Girl

    11. We can work it out

    12. The end - not just cause its the closing track of Abbey road but Paul's voice (along with the harmonies) in the final seconds is just too sad

    13. Golden slumbers

    14. The long and winding road

  • though i like your choices i wanna add some more sad songs

    1. Yer blues - Just hearing John repeatedly shouting "Yes I'm lonely, wanna die!" is downright sad

    2. Julia

    3. Strawberry fields forever - "It's getting hard to be someone but it all works out, it doesn't matter much to me"

    4. A day in the life

    5. Fool on the hill

    6. She said She said

    7. I'm looking through you

  • what about GIRL its obviously of a girl who was too good for me (them)at the time

  • Why is it none of these top ten anythings ever include "YOU WONT SEE ME!?"

  • three words: In My Life.

  • @baconandbouser

    Definitely.

  • @baconandbouser I get a real feeling of nostalgia from that song.

  • just saying long and winding road

  • @warriorrlax27 you left me standing here a long long time ago Some times Paul is very better than John Something in his voice sweet and charming

  • Wait... That's not the same "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" as is in The Beatles Rockband... What's up with that?

  • @Tonberry115 Excellent question. And the answer is:

The "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" you are referring to is the one released in 1968 on 'The Beatles,' better known as the White Album. However, in the making of that song, George also recorded a demo. This demo was released in 1996 on 'The Beatles Anthology 3'. It was this, less produced, version that made my list.

    Thanks for the comment :)

  • It's a good list but I think the saddest Beatles song is Golden Slumbers!

  • @BackwardsMoney08 I'm agree - And I will sing a lullabye...

  • the long and winding road is the saddest one for me. because it's just a sad ending to the beatles.. but then again get back and I've got a feeling are kickass endings

  • in my life? free as a bird? comeoonnn

  • Where's Help!?!

  • Sorry, but wondering where "Hey Jude," & "Let It Be" is...

  • @bieberfight they arent sad, Let it be is about hope and carrying on when things seem bad, and Hey Jude is trying to persuade a boy in love to go and get the girl he loves. The may have a slight sad melody, but just because they are the most popular Beatle songs doesn't mean they should be on every top ten list. They are both positive peices of music, so why don't you go out and experiment when it comes down to Beatle music.

  • Dunno Why, but u always don't put a song in the ranking I expected.

In this ranking the song is "I'm Only Sleeping"

  • @TheOnlyPietroide I think that's a good thing. It really brings out the great variety of Beatle music, and the individuality of their fans.

"I'm Only Sleeping"? Interesting choice. I see where you're coming from, but that song tends to have a more sentimental quality than a sad quality when I listen to it.

  • @BeatleBard In fact the saddest Beatles'song is HELP Help me if you can, I'm feeling down

And I do appreciate you being round But very nice choice They are forever the best melody makers. I add because, Cry baby cry, For no one, If I feel, The long and winding road, This boy and so on....

  • From about 3:48 to about 4:35 George is next to Paul on the Hard Day's Night Album cover, which is weird...

  • @SuperChannelO I noticed that :o curious..

  • She's Leaving Home is one of my favorite songs. It should be #1

  • great list.

  • ur not losers!!!!!!

  • What about nowhere man?

  • what about long long long.

  • I know the lyrics aren't that sad but mother natures son is definitely one of the saddest

  • She's Leaving Home is the saddest song I've ever heard. It should be further up. Although it's hard to beat While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Eleanor Rigby and Yesterday, it should be #1.

  • elenor rigby....one of the best songs i had ever heard

  • I'm glad you didn't just listen to the way it sounded. I'm glad you actually payed attention to what they're saying. :) BTW, who is John Rigby?

  • @raintalonwindclan Interesting story. Paul wanted to make the name of the character in the song 'Eleanor Rigby' sound like a real person. He felt that fictional names often sounded contrived. So he got 'Eleanor' and 'Rigby' from two different inspirations, and thought it sounded really natural. Later on, he found the grave you are referring to. John Rigby was one of the people marked on it, as was Eleanor Rigby. He says he didn't remember ever seeing the tombstone before making the name.
