i have opus and it sucks .....get ready for changing fuses often ....flashes need a cooling fan ...opus forgot to add fans to the lights ...damn idiot ....its ok for a little shoot ....but for shooting 100 pics in a row ...forget it ...go out and spend an exctra 100$ on a flash with a fan ...saves you trouble and money in the long run
thank you David for another good one.....i was concerned about the window light in the background ...but i guess it didn't matter, the results were real good....
wow! its a nice thing i saw your video.. its a awesome tutorial and it helped me a lot.. i just bought a studio kit like this but different brand..anyway thanks for having a video like this! thumbs up!
Your videos are really helpful! I'm new to using flash and was planning on getting a start up kit, i've seen videos of how to set up the stands and put everything together, the part i haven't seen or know about is how is everything connected to, of course i know it's all connected to a battery, is it all running on one battery or it's own for every stand? It's a dumb question but i'm in the process of learning.
Each light plugs into a wall socket, not a battery. Some lights will use a battery but as a starter system I would stay away from a battery system. The extra cost isn't worth it as a starter kit.
Thanks for the great video. Can you tell me how you would integrate the use a light meter into this scenario? I noticed that you set your camera to 125 sec, Ap 5/6. I assume you used the light meter on your camera to get the reflective light. With a light meter I think you set the ISO and then expose the flash which will give you the Ap or F stop and the shutter speed? Many thanks
A light meter will show you the f-stop. You set the ISO and shutter speed on the meter to the setting on your camera. You then use the flash meter to check the f-stop on your subject and background.
I've really enjoyed your videos, to the point that I'm ready to purchase one of the Opus's kit. The problem that I'm having is that I can't seem to find any prices on their products, even on their website. Any suggestions?
@jbarton248 I had to do a Google search to find prices. If he's using the 250 w/s monolights, the 2 light setup goes for about $799. US dollars. Type "Opus 2 light kit" and you'll find prices.
You say you turned down the strobe due to a small space & powerful strobe. If you were to buy a more powerful strobe can you turn that down even further or do you need to buy a weaker strobe for certain uses?
Yes and no. As with most things, the more they cost the more they do. Check out the stats of any lights that you are looking at for the power range. One fact to keep in mind is the more the power is reduced when shooting the more stress you put on the light. Seems backwards but a 600 watt light used at only 30 watts is harder on the unit then shooting at 600 watts.
Dave, how does the settings you use (well lit areas) differ from a room closed off without windows? I imagine that has an effect on the pictures right? I'm really trying to get a handle on setting the lights up appropriately
I receive this question all the time. When I'm doing a seminar I will shoot a frame without the strobes. The frame is basically black because I'm shooting at 1/125 and F8 and the ambient light isn't sufficient. This applies to this video. The light from the window has NO effect on the image. Give it a try and see for yourself.
Ok. I'll definitely try that. Thanks for responding so quickly. The room I'm shooting is not large and doesn't have tall ceilings and I was wondering how much of an effect that had as well. I appreciate all your help! Thanks
Dave, this is great ! I just got into DSLR Photography and your videos are easy to understand. The content is great, well paced and thorough that we remember all your key points. Thank you!!!
Appreciated your efforts

Wow thanks for this amazing video, just one question, is a PC Out the same as a AV Out? Thanks!
chouxiong83 2 years ago
No. The PC is to trigger external flash units.
