I liked 1969 ... I was all of eight and who doesn't love the summer they turned eight. To my Dad, it was just another year and had to go to work everyday and pay bills. Don't waste too much time romanticizing a particular year. Like 2011, '69 had its ups, had its downs.
@bellier20 it was a lot easier for most to pay their bill back in 1969 than it is today. Since that time, we have lost more than half of our manufacturing jobs and the population has gone up 70 percent. In 1969, only half of households were two earner. Today, it is over 80 percent. I'd go back to those days in a minute, even minus computers and gadgets. It was before environmentalists got under the hoods of our cars. Leaded gas, no emission controls, no airbags. Cheap fuel.
@fvk32771 Oh, don't get me wrong, there's vast swaths of 1969 I'd like back, including the 40-cent pack of smokes and 3.5% unemployment. What I wouldn't want back is 5.7% inflation, a 68-year life expectancy (5 years less than now,) the 40,000+ US deaths by that time in Vietnam, and pollution that had cities like Los Angeles issuing smog alerts and warning people with respiratory issues not to go outside. There's something to like about 1939, 1949, and 1959 too -- just not all of it.
Hmmm... So, I am supposed to happily accept 2011 'forced multi-culturalism', miscegenation, gay & lesbianism with a heavy dose of feminism to boot AND call it PROGRESS instead of 1969? I'll take 1969 any day, thank you very much!
@rezek71 I too will take 1969 any day of the week, This country has lost it way and was part of the reason Pontiac is not made anymore. Hell, it became they could not build a car, the government put so many things on them they had to change, thus killing what we knew as the great American car. They all look the same now, plastic front end, just a little bump and you have 2,000.00 in damage.
Wonderful series on the history of Pontiac. I have had a few and God Bless they were really fun distinctive cars. I just can not realize they are gone. It is like a death. Why would GM take this away? I do not think this was a wise act. But then again I am a fan of this proud now history GM division, Good fight my man, we will remember, RIP.
I love this commercial. Absolutely down memory lane . I remember this on TV. What a great line of cars back then and catchy theme song. The Indian or now as we say native American chief as in the name is gone, but all who are of age knows that this was a fantastic car and brand. We will think of you as the years pass! Good job, very missed.
RIP Pontiac. You will be missed like Olds, Plymouth, Saturn, and Mercury. It's sad how all of these iconic American brands have passed in the last decade. And they should not show any ads to reflect this passing.
@rob16875 In my opinion pontiac has been gone since the 80's when they started putting 305's in the trans am instead of 400's and 455's. Thats what killed them. They used to have the edge over everyone else because of the pontiac engine. When they took the pontiac engine away, they killed pontiac.
@pannoni1 Hey don't forget Obama and his "Automotive Czar" put them under!! In their effort to reform "Government Motors", they forced the demise of Pontiac and Saturn, a truly excellent marque, and made Hummer retreat back to the "military use only fold". Sure they had problems with an overly greedy United Auto Workers Union and management compensation was top heavy, but The Obama Administration in their socialist zeal pulled the pin that sunk them....Long live Pontiac!.. at least in memory.
break away, in a FireBird,
break away, in a Grand Prix,
break away, in a G.T.O.......
