@Gayestskijumpever In the final days of the NES, Nintendo believed the system would die, so they released their final game for the console. FINAL Fantasy. This game became insanely popular and exploded into what it is today.
@wiikid41 because following the videogame crash of 1983, Nintendo tried to make their NES look like a VCR and unlike any previous consoles to distance it from any bad experiences people had from earlier consoles.
theres a few differences. the cartrage/usb. and theirs a few games that it has and that the NES or the SNES doesnt have. like the lost levels of certain games
I need some help. I just recently found a Famicom but it didnt come with the wires. What kind of A/V cables and adapter do i need to make it work???????
I got a Famicom the other day. My only complaint is that the control wires are too short. Literally you would have to sit on the floor with it unless you have a whole bunch of extension cables. Also mine takes a few tries to get the only game I have going, but I don't know if that's the game or the system just being a bit dusty or if the system is slowly dying. If it is, no matter, I'll just get a model 2 Famicom and have this one as a display item, like my broken Saturn console. :)
I live in Taiwan, and I've been searching for these things forever. You can get fake remakes of them, but I want an original. The problem is that they don't have car boot sales in Taiwan, it wasn't very popular, and people generally throw them away rather than keeping them or selling them.
They have a Taiwanese version of ebay but they are super expensive if you can find one. Finally the games are all in Japanese!! NOT CHINESE! HELP!
@ninman58 and of course if you don't want to bid you can narrow it down to buy it now only. too bad you'll still have to sift through about 14 pages of games for it. after all the first listing will usually not be insanely high but still cost a crap load of money compared to what auctions START at, after that point the price can get really ridiculous, some cost hundreds more than its actually worth. in short.
@ninman58 the best way to sum it up: if you want avoid a shitty price, then be prepared for lots of hassle, if you want to avoid the hassle, then you pay a shitty price
i wanna buy one of these just cuz i collect light guns and want that fucking 15 pin revolver light gun, though its expensive as all fucking hell on ebay
this console was actually called Nintendo in Bulgaria, and it played all the actual nintendo games. Also had one called "Terminator" which was the same thing only diff looking.
@Gamester81 Hey I have a Nes front loader and I'm wondering where I can get a 3rd party converter to play famicom games on it. Do you know anyplace I can find it?
One of the uses for the microphone in the second controller was for the Legend of Zelda. Americans may have read the description of a monster called Pohl's Voice (iirc) and wondered what it meant...seeing the mic on the second controller now sheds some light on that. Neat to see a precursor to tech now found on the current gen Nintendo DS. Enjoying your vids...simple, straighforward and informative. Thank you for posting them.
I had a Famicom, which in my opinion, was much better than the NES overall. Regular NES games could not fit directly into the Famicom slot. However, there was an adapter that allowed you to play NES games. So I had the best of both worlds in playing both Japanese and US games. Moreover, there were bundle cartridges that contained multiple games in one, not just two or three, but as high as fifty games in one. One cartridge I owned had five or six different versions of Super Mario Brothers.
@taksmaster23 One of my biggest annoyances with the Famicom is the design of the controllers.
1. The controllers were permanently attached to the console, so if one broke, it would be harder to replace it.
2. The connecting wires on the controllers protruded from the sides, which made it a bit awkward to hold.
It's been about twenty years since I've owned a Famicom, but I still don't know the purpose of that port on the front side of the console. Is this where disk system is connected?
The mic on the second contoller is used in some games. One of them being the first zelda. an enemy called pols voice can be killed by blowing into the mic. It is mentioned in the US instruction manual
glad i was born around the time snes was blowing up and ps soon after i would have got so bored with old system like these like playing with rocks and stix
Only thing that sucks about collecting FDS games is they're more likely to degrade over time depending on the quality of the floppy media. Cartridges are static ROMs, so they should always work if taken care of.
I think they also had it use 6 cell batteries for the fact its controllers don't reach well and they aren't un-connectable, so you had to move the console towards the one or two players.
Its better for you be able to pull it out farther then the power cord.
Yeah on the Legand of Zelda you could yell at those bunny things and it would kill them. That is very neat, wish that would have came state side hell the booklet for zelda said Pols Voice hates loud sounds. I am sure you already knew that though good review man. Thank you!!
@Gamester81 Very true. Except the one that is black and grey/blue/green was released later. The controllers include turbo buttons and the cord is longer. An LED light was added to the power button as well so players would know if the system was on or not.
I have the black and red like color (the first model) and trust me, I WISH I had the longer wire for the controller! :)
this is my favourite video of yours man! cause im from buenos aires argentina and here back in those days we all own the famicom or family game! most teens owned a family game not a nes, so this video brought me back great memories
@koopahermit if money is no object and you just sort them by best match then yeah its easy, the tirck is tho that famicom is usually ridiculously overpriced, so you probably want to use the lowest price filter. when oyu do that tho to you'll have to shift through HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS of unrelated things like games and cables for it. once find the lowest price on it guess what? its an auction that like ends in six days. you'll what all that time only to be outbid once ht price skyrockets.....
Excellent video! I didn't know that the Famicom had AV output. The eject button reminds me of the way SNES cartridges eject. I would guess that it's got a better cartridge connection then the NES, since it's top loading?
So on otherwords.... You just need to hope your Famicom actually works, while your finding the channel for it? I know people say channel 95 & 96 but it might be different on a PAL tv.
It is pretty simple for the most part. You can even nick the belt out of older cassette tape players and use that. Works on this AND the ZX Spectrum +3 wonderfully.
iv got a Famicom myself, but it's the one with the RF connection. Would you think there is a way to plug the Japanese RF into my British TV? Would be hard finding an adapter converting a Japanese RF cable to British socket.
That's a good question. I know that the Japanese RF connections will work on the US TV's fine (under channel 92), so I'd assume that if you pick up an adapter that converts US to PAL it should work fine.
Yeah i just searched a bit on Youtube there, should have did that b4 asking :P
Just found out that you and the Japs have the same RF connection which means i just need a PAL-NTSC adapter which i have already found on Ebay, so shouldn't be too long till i can play one of my prized possesions :)
Sure would have been nice too have one of those disk drives over here in the states maybe we wouldn't have had so many games with passwords but they were probably afraid of piracy.
One thing to note as well is that the Twin Famicom made switching to FDS games easier and faster thanks to that switch by the cartridge. It also eliminated the need for additional cables, power switches, and what not. What was also cool is the fact that the Twin came with RCA Audio and Video (Yellow and White) so it didn't need with a proprietary cable. If you can get yourself a Famicom to NES adapter cartridge, you can play American NES games on this as well! Makes the NES Toaster a joke!
Cool video. I'm thinking of getting on of the FDS. I have a couple of famicoms and just picked up power-joy 84 game multicart last weekend. The television has to be on channel 95 in the US for the famicom.
invest in a tripod and treat you games with care man! but yeah my real comment is there are more than three colors, there was black and red, red and black, black with neon green and purple (the one i own and one of the rarer ones, and the pink one you own, also one of the rarer ones. also during start up inlike the official nintendo one it just says FAMICOM and not NINTENDO. just adding my two cents.
Question for you. In an old Gamepro I saw a "Super 8 Converter" or something like that. It let you play NES games on your SNES. I'm not sure if it was released or not. I should find that issue.
Yeah the Super 8 was released, but is pretty rare. I've seen one on ebay go for $150. I do own a Tristar 64 which is made by the same company and attaches to the N64. You can play N64, Famicom games, SNES games, and SFC games.
actully I plan on doing something like that already I have a famicom to nes adapter coming in from Canada and a disk system coming from Tiwan so when I have both of those items I will post a video about it.
well that video won't come out for a while.... the guy I got my disk system from is actully a guy who sell's mini versions of home systems and when I checked how much the real disk system was I relized that I should start dubuling up on my chores
Yes, there are games that use the microphone. Four games that come to mind are Zelda 1+2, Atlantis no Nazo, and Takeshi no Chosenjou. I have the latter of the 4, and it's a hilarious game. I recommend getting it whenever you have the chance, you can generally find it for a cheap price.
Sorry toad0007 I don't own Deal or no Deal for the Wii. There is a link to the games that I own on my channel. So if you see one that I own and you'd like to see, let me know. Thanks
witht the lighting and camera angle, the disk drive looks like a microwave with a starburst glued on the door

what was that black thing in the cartridge slot?
then00best 2 years ago
@ then00best
It's the RAM adapter for the Famicom Disk system
porygonxyz123 2 years ago
yeah it plugs in so you can play the disk system through the Famicom. Thanks for answering this.
Gamester81 2 years ago

Very awesome man! I want everything in this video.

In any case, have you heard of it?
elbryan42 2 years ago
Yeah the Super 8 was released, but is pretty rare. I've seen one on ebay go for $150. I do own a Tristar 64 which is made by the same company and attaches to the N64. You can play N64, Famicom games, SNES games, and SFC games.
Gamester81 2 years ago
That's awesome. :) Could you do a review of the Tristar 64? I'm curious.
I knew I wasn't crazy. Thanks for the info, it made my day. My memory served me right.

Hey.. has anyone tried to use a famicom to nes adapter so as to get the Disk system to work on the Nes?
atari94 2 years ago
That's brilliant. I'll have to try that. I'd think it'd have to be on the top loader NES not the toaster one in order for it to work.
Gamester81 2 years ago
actully I plan on doing something like that already I have a famicom to nes adapter coming in from Canada and a disk system coming from Tiwan so when I have both of those items I will post a video about it.
atari94 2 years ago
Cool man, I can't wait to see that video.
starwarsnut77 2 years ago
well that video won't come out for a while.... the guy I got my disk system from is actully a guy who sell's mini versions of home systems and when I checked how much the real disk system was I relized that I should start dubuling up on my chores
atari94 2 years ago
That's understandable for sure.
Gamester81 2 years ago
Yes, there are games that use the microphone. Four games that come to mind are Zelda 1+2, Atlantis no Nazo, and Takeshi no Chosenjou. I have the latter of the 4, and it's a hilarious game. I recommend getting it whenever you have the chance, you can generally find it for a cheap price.
