  • witht the lighting and camera angle, the disk drive looks like a microwave with a starburst glued on the door

  • That was very interesting about |Final Fantasy| not a big fan of the franchise but i always wondered why it was called that!

  • @Gayestskijumpever In the final days of the NES, Nintendo believed the system would die, so they released their final game for the console. FINAL Fantasy. This game became insanely popular and exploded into what it is today.

  • @PatchworkParamedic well final fantasy was released by Square back in 1987 3 years before the discontinuation

  • John, the top of my Fami gets really warm when using the FDS, does yours? I was a little concerned.

  • Comment removed

  • does the twin have built in ram

  • Here's something I need to know why was America given a big fat gray white box while Japan got a white and redone that is not fat just small

  • @wiikid41 b/c in America, bigger IS better

  • i want one really bad!

  • @rdanny321

theres a few differences. the cartrage/usb. and theirs a few games that it has and that the NES or the SNES doesnt have. like the lost levels of certain games

  • I need some help. I just recently found a Famicom but it didnt come with the wires. What kind of A/V cables and adapter do i need to make it work???????

  • @mojo483 should be same as a nes or snes

  • I got a Famicom the other day. My only complaint is that the control wires are too short. Literally you would have to sit on the floor with it unless you have a whole bunch of extension cables. Also mine takes a few tries to get the only game I have going, but I don't know if that's the game or the system just being a bit dusty or if the system is slowly dying. If it is, no matter, I'll just get a model 2 Famicom and have this one as a display item, like my broken Saturn console. :)

  • Is that only 1 controller port that I see on the Famicom? That sucks for the Japanese.

  • @EmeraldWarrior420 No, they had two contollers, but they are hardwired to the system. You can't take them out.

  • Not that the U.S. NES is great looking either, but the Famicom looks like a cheap toy.

  • wait the Famicom was still being sold in 2003 ?

  • i have a twin famicom myself i should do a video about it in more detail someday :) i love your videos

  • @MiiDylan I guess that was the european nes I guess it was released in my country Kuwait

  • 5:45 Holy shit, that eject button doesn't fuck around XD

  • I live in Taiwan, and I've been searching for these things forever. You can get fake remakes of them, but I want an original. The problem is that they don't have car boot sales in Taiwan, it wasn't very popular, and people generally throw them away rather than keeping them or selling them.

They have a Taiwanese version of ebay but they are super expensive if you can find one. Finally the games are all in Japanese!! NOT CHINESE! HELP!

  • @ninman58 and of course if you don't want to bid you can narrow it down to buy it now only. too bad you'll still have to sift through about 14 pages of games for it. after all the first listing will usually not be insanely high but still cost a crap load of money compared to what auctions START at, after that point the price can get really ridiculous, some cost hundreds more than its actually worth. in short.

  • @ninman58 the best way to sum it up: if you want avoid a shitty price, then be prepared for lots of hassle, if you want to avoid the hassle, then you pay a shitty price

  • i used to own this ... too bad I trashed it in 2003 or 4

  • The mics on the controlers are for killing sertain enemies on Zelda. It sais (name of enemy here) hates loud noises.

  • There is a model like this one but it is grey and controllers are like the us nes ....does anyone know what is it and if it is valuable?

  • thumbs up if you searched this after seeing the angry video game nerd's review of Transformers

  • its a battery-back up save

  • famicom (fami - family) (com -computer)

  • your mouth is sticky

  • you can save on zelda, can't you?

  • wow it looks small compared to ur hands lol

  • i wanna buy one of these just cuz i collect light guns and want that fucking 15 pin revolver light gun, though its expensive as all fucking hell on ebay

  • Is the power supply also hardwired into the system? I really am looking for a cheap Famicom.

  • Shit quality D: but looks awesome! :D

  • Do The 3DS

  • 2:33 ...... does that say douch boy??? very close to another word i know

  • 2:33 ...... does that say douch boy???

  • @soontobefamous11 is sais dough boy

  • You can play Mother, you silly goose!

  • actually square is now known as square enix as they merged sometime in the late ninties

  • I was not able to the freakin Famicom I think I will try the store that sells old game systems that's were I got my nes

  • this console was actually called Nintendo in Bulgaria, and it played all the actual nintendo games. Also had one called "Terminator" which was the same thing only diff looking.

  • why did Nintendo put two sides on the floppy disks?

  • jajajaja im lucky!! i have one!!!

  • i thought using ads on this would be copyright infringement, or would that not apply since the system wasnt turned on?

  • @Gamester81 Hey I have a Nes front loader and I'm wondering where I can get a 3rd party converter to play famicom games on it. Do you know anyplace I can find it?

  • One of the uses for the microphone in the second controller was for the Legend of Zelda. Americans may have read the description of a monster called Pohl's Voice (iirc) and wondered what it meant...seeing the mic on the second controller now sheds some light on that. Neat to see a precursor to tech now found on the current gen Nintendo DS. Enjoying your vids...simple, straighforward and informative. Thank you for posting them.

  • Miałem go! Zajebista konsola. Muszę teraz go odzyskać, bo tęsknie za nim :)

  • I had a Famicom, which in my opinion, was much better than the NES overall. Regular NES games could not fit directly into the Famicom slot. However, there was an adapter that allowed you to play NES games. So I had the best of both worlds in playing both Japanese and US games. Moreover, there were bundle cartridges that contained multiple games in one, not just two or three, but as high as fifty games in one. One cartridge I owned had five or six different versions of Super Mario Brothers.

  • @taksmaster23 One of my biggest annoyances with the Famicom is the design of the controllers.

    1. The controllers were permanently attached to the console, so if one broke, it would be harder to replace it.

    2. The connecting wires on the controllers protruded from the sides, which made it a bit awkward to hold.

It's been about twenty years since I've owned a Famicom, but I still don't know the purpose of that port on the front side of the console. Is this where disk system is connected?

  • ever tried playing FDS games on the Homebrew Channel? if you have a Wii maybe you should try it.

  • Cool to see that you make the good old consoles shine again :)

It surely would be awesome, to do a ´Retro Weekend´ at your home :P

And i would buy some beer & tortillas :D

  • have you ever thought of repainting the twin famicom?

  • do you know if the nes top loader could play famicom games?

  • @garganrose no, you still had to use a adapter. the famicom used a 60 pin cart while the NES used a 72 pin cart. look up T89 Cartridge Converter

  • @madmax2069 oh well thanks though i'm planning to buy a top loader this week.

  • the mic could be used to kill Pols Voice in legend of zelda

  • My rich grandma is in japan time for some shopping >:)

  • @DeathSword4 Nice, luckily famicoms can be found very cheap in japan anyway.

  • All Gen Gamers should take a shopping trip to Japan. I like to see those videos of all the pick ups.

  • The mic on the second contoller is used in some games. One of them being the first zelda. an enemy called pols voice can be killed by blowing into the mic. It is mentioned in the US instruction manual

  • howcome you didn't show super mairo bros 2 the lost levles

  • will the disk system work on the tri-star64?

  • It looks like a N64

  • damn dude you must have a badass job

  • final fanntasy had 2 more games on the famicom that never made it here, so they remade them and put them on handhelds =D

  • wow, i didn't know that Final Fantasy actually saved Square Enixes Butt!!!

I own final fantasy 7 on ps1!!! best game ever made for ps1!!!

  • glad i was born around the time snes was blowing up and ps soon after i would have got so bored with old system like these like playing with rocks and stix

  • Personally, I don't think the Famicom Disk System is worth playing. Though I would like to buy it just to have it.

  • In Poland there is Russian ripp-of of Famicon called Pegasus, most of it have the same case, even cartridges looks familiar

  • where can i get 1of these

  • That is pretty badass

    Great video !!

  • Now do the Super Famicom!

  • its called square enix now

  • Only thing that sucks about collecting FDS games is they're more likely to degrade over time depending on the quality of the floppy media. Cartridges are static ROMs, so they should always work if taken care of.

  • I think some japanese consoles of NFS, FDS and STFS were released in Japan in both the 1980's and 1990's.

  • intresting fact for ya the micophone was used on dragon warrior/dragon quest to say your magic attacks on the famicom

  • I think they also had it use 6 cell batteries for the fact its controllers don't reach well and they aren't un-connectable, so you had to move the console towards the one or two players.

Its better for you be able to pull it out farther then the power cord.

  • Funny you should mention Kid Icarus because i have that for my game boy pocket

  • the microphone can be used for zelda :D the mouse things die (or get stunned, I dont remember XD) when you scream into the microphone.

  • 1. I'm glad that Final Fantasy wasn't Square's last game

    2. the twin famicom looks like a little girl's toy

    3. once again I wish I had grown up in Japan (as far as video games go, nothing else)

  • I have a question, how does having a battery in a cartridge actually work in saving the game?

  • oh! famicom.

  • dude ur awesome , i just love old school games thumbs up...awesome videos like always

  • Yeah on the Legand of Zelda you could yell at those bunny things and it would kill them. That is very neat, wish that would have came state side hell the booklet for zelda said Pols Voice hates loud sounds. I am sure you already knew that though good review man. Thank you!!

  • im going to japan and getting 1 4 my bday!

  • hi!

Can you tell me the size of the case of famicom disk system? Length x width x height

    thanks!

  • Do you believe in the Spode?

  • yes there are microphone compatible games i think one of the dragon monster games uses it =]

  • Where do the A/V cobles hook up to on the original FAMICOM? I thought it only has RF. Or does it hook into the disk drive?

  • The disk drive hooks up through the cartage slot, and the AV cables are hardwired into the actual Famicom system.

  • Is it a mod or does it plug into a controller connection?

  • @Gamester81 do you have yume kojo doki doki panic

  • @Gamester81 I thought the controllers were hardwired into the system not the av cord.

  • How do you find a Famicom at a decent price

  • theres a few sharp twin systems

    is there a best one?

  • Basically they're the same but two different colors.

  • brings back so many memories,i had the famicom when i was a kid lol

reason why the sharp twin systems came in 2 different colors was bc the blk/grey one was meant for boys n the pink one was meant for girls

  • @Gamester81 Very true. Except the one that is black and grey/blue/green was released later. The controllers include turbo buttons and the cord is longer. An LED light was added to the power button as well so players would know if the system was on or not.

I have the black and red like color (the first model) and trust me, I WISH I had the longer wire for the controller! :)

  • three colors actually.

    Red with black highlights

    Black with red highlights

    and Black with Greenish highlights.

  • Man, I SERIOUSLY WANT A FAMICOM AND A FAMICOM DISK SYSTEM!!!!!!!! But I guess I'll just have to wait. Oh well.

  • I get you. ;)

Nintendo Famicom is expensive but the Disk system is even more.

  • So the Disc drive runs off of batteries?

Fuck that. I cant believe i thought that shit was cool.

  • @peepeevagi It comes with an AC adapter, but you can also run it off batteries.

  • Not really.

The originla Package has no AC Adapter, the FCD Adapter was sold separatly.

  • I'm Jealous..........

  • this is my favourite video of yours man! cause im from buenos aires argentina and here back in those days we all own the famicom or family game! most teens owned a family game not a nes, so this video brought me back great memories

    :)

  • i just realized. this would work perfectly on a generation nex without a converter. i'm gonna go buy one maybe

  • @ coreykun667 Yeah I actually play this all the time on my Gen Nex system. Do you have the wireless controllers for it?

  • i wish i did. i tried the site but it wouldnt come up

  • square soft changed into square enix

  • That eject button has a real kick... reminds me of my toaster.

  • Hey, are there any Famicoms in good condition sold anywhere other than on eBay? If so, where? Thanx!

  • finding a famicom on ebay is a massive headache!

  • @gamerguy425 go to the classic game revisited store to buy one.

  • @gamerguy425 I have found one if you still want one

  • @gamerguy425 you sure? I found one on the first page.

  • @koopahermit if money is no object and you just sort them by best match then yeah its easy, the tirck is tho that famicom is usually ridiculously overpriced, so you probably want to use the lowest price filter. when oyu do that tho to you'll have to shift through HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS of unrelated things like games and cables for it. once find the lowest price on it guess what? its an auction that like ends in six days. you'll what all that time only to be outbid once ht price skyrockets.....

  • Hey, are there any Famicoms in good condition sold other than on eBay? Is so, where? Thanx ... !

  • oh here we go!

  • so you got pink cuz uhhh... (mumbles...)

  • Excellent video! I didn't know that the Famicom had AV output. The eject button reminds me of the way SNES cartridges eject. I would guess that it's got a better cartridge connection then the NES, since it's top loading?

  • Can i ask a dumb question.... Is there a light indicator of any kind to tell you that the power is on?

  • There is no light on the original system-- however, lukemorse1 made a video of him showing off a Famicom he modified with a red power light.

  • So on otherwords.... You just need to hope your Famicom actually works, while your finding the channel for it? I know people say channel 95 & 96 but it might be different on a PAL tv.

  • I just ordered a Twin Famicom - I'm so excited for it to arrive! Do you know if the Twin Famicom has the same belt issues as the original FDS?

  • Yeah it does have issues with the belt a lot, but I believe it's the same fix. Cool congrats on picking one of these out.

  • i thought the famicom was the snes

  • I believe your thinking of the Super Famicom.

  • Have you ever had to change the belt on the disk systems?

  • No I haven't yet. I've heard it's not that difficult, but I've never tried.

  • It is pretty simple for the most part. You can even nick the belt out of older cassette tape players and use that. Works on this AND the ZX Spectrum +3 wonderfully.

  • iv got a Famicom myself, but it's the one with the RF connection. Would you think there is a way to plug the Japanese RF into my British TV? Would be hard finding an adapter converting a Japanese RF cable to British socket.

  • That's a good question. I know that the Japanese RF connections will work on the US TV's fine (under channel 92), so I'd assume that if you pick up an adapter that converts US to PAL it should work fine.

  • Yeah i just searched a bit on Youtube there, should have did that b4 asking :P

Just found out that you and the Japs have the same RF connection which means i just need a PAL-NTSC adapter which i have already found on Ebay, so shouldn't be too long till i can play one of my prized possesions :)

  • what was that black thing in the cartridge slot?

  • @ then00best

It's the RAM adapter for the Famicom Disk system

  • yeah it plugs in so you can play the disk system through the Famicom. Thanks for answering this.

  • Sure would have been nice too have one of those disk drives over here in the states maybe we wouldn't have had so many games with passwords but they were probably afraid of piracy.

  • Very Informative! Thanks!!!

  • On the Famicom version of Zelda, you Yell into The Mic to kill Pol's Voice. Good Video.

  • Dude I didn't know that. thanks for sharing.

  • before the nes more precisely 3 years

  • the famicom came out in 1983 in japan the nes came out in north america in 1985

  • One thing to note as well is that the Twin Famicom made switching to FDS games easier and faster thanks to that switch by the cartridge. It also eliminated the need for additional cables, power switches, and what not. What was also cool is the fact that the Twin came with RCA Audio and Video (Yellow and White) so it didn't need with a proprietary cable. If you can get yourself a Famicom to NES adapter cartridge, you can play American NES games on this as well! Makes the NES Toaster a joke!

  • Wow all great things to know. Thanks for commenting.

  • Very awesome man! I want everything in this video.

  • Cool video. I'm thinking of getting on of the FDS. I have a couple of famicoms and just picked up power-joy 84 game multicart last weekend. The television has to be on channel 95 in the US for the famicom.

  • invest in a tripod and treat you games with care man! but yeah my real comment is there are more than three colors, there was black and red, red and black, black with neon green and purple (the one i own and one of the rarer ones, and the pink one you own, also one of the rarer ones. also during start up inlike the official nintendo one it just says FAMICOM and not NINTENDO. just adding my two cents.

  • Cool great to know. Thanks.

  • Comment removed

  • how much ws the system and were do u get it??!?!?!??!

  • Ebay.

    A lot.

  • nah, not much. Like 40-100 dollars

  • Question for you. In an old Gamepro I saw a "Super 8 Converter" or something like that. It let you play NES games on your SNES. I'm not sure if it was released or not. I should find that issue.

In any case, have you heard of it?

  • Yeah the Super 8 was released, but is pretty rare. I've seen one on ebay go for $150. I do own a Tristar 64 which is made by the same company and attaches to the N64. You can play N64, Famicom games, SNES games, and SFC games.

  • That's awesome. :) Could you do a review of the Tristar 64? I'm curious.

I knew I wasn't crazy. Thanks for the info, it made my day. My memory served me right.

  • i love final fantasy. just an awesome franchise

  • Good vid - 5 starz my man, I love Famicom stuff :).

  • Great video!

  • The Twin Famicom is great! I use the pad 2 mic for the commentary in all of my videos :D

  • Hey.. has anyone tried to use a famicom to nes adapter so as to get the Disk system to work on the Nes?

  • That's brilliant. I'll have to try that. I'd think it'd have to be on the top loader NES not the toaster one in order for it to work.

  • actully I plan on doing something like that already I have a famicom to nes adapter coming in from Canada and a disk system coming from Tiwan so when I have both of those items I will post a video about it.

  • Cool man, I can't wait to see that video.

  • well that video won't come out for a while.... the guy I got my disk system from is actully a guy who sell's mini versions of home systems and when I checked how much the real disk system was I relized that I should start dubuling up on my chores

  • That's understandable for sure.

  • Yes, there are games that use the microphone. Four games that come to mind are Zelda 1+2, Atlantis no Nazo, and Takeshi no Chosenjou. I have the latter of the 4, and it's a hilarious game. I recommend getting it whenever you have the chance, you can generally find it for a cheap price.

  • I envy you man, I have Famicom Disk System games but no system!

  • Please Review deal or no deal for wii

  • Sorry toad0007 I don't own Deal or no Deal for the Wii. There is a link to the games that I own on my channel. So if you see one that I own and you'd like to see, let me know. Thanks

  • Can You Please Review Deal Or No Deal For The Wii.

  • sweet

  • nice review man glad to see your home safe and good job on not saying rv cables :D happy gaming

  • You-da-man! Thanks for the review. Glad you're back safe.
