  • @iplaywow1123 ..."The Sloop John B " was a two masted sail boat of the kind that used to trade between the Tropic Island's ,Atlantic or Pacific .

....Sloop's were seaworthy and sailed well .

....Thier trip's were long and hard .In this case a young crew member has had enough .He's month's away from home .

....This song has nothing to do with conflict ,just homesick .

  • I got to hand it to you brits you should be very proud of your self for putting up a hell of a fight with those Bloody Jerrys. Peace to you and your country.

  • whats this song about? pls reply. im only 10 so i would like to know

  • Great song!!

(If I'm not mistaken one of the first pictures was the USS Constitution?)

    Go Navy!

  • good song

  • Majors and Generals, and Wow.... I'm in awe, Sirs. I'm just a daughter of a WWII dad who sat at the bottom of those ships in a radar shack, in a convoy, protecting our destroyers. It got hair-y....that's all I know.

That's all he wanted me to know....but, I'm very proud of him...and all of you! And, I LOVE the BEACH Boys!

  • I'm feeling a little down, but the Beach Boys are picking me back up...

  • guys guys guys-just enjoy the beauty of brian wilson's voice and the incredible harmonies on a classic sailors song. doesnt it fill you will joy? no im not high-this song gets to me every time i hear it-even brings a tear. so just relax guys-enjoy the art of the beach boys. screw history-its always an opinion on what happened, not always the facts.

  • yeah-awright...just look at all that US steel and heart. I meant USA steel.

  • yeah-awright...just look at all that US steel and heart.

  • All kidding aside-did the Beach Boys use a tuba for the bass lines? With the headphones on, it sounds like it. No criticism-I like it!

  • My brother my hero.

  • the soundtrack of my life...blessings to all...Andy

  • I meant, "Vikings"....bring it on down!

  • @achzdck Hey Ranger- you forgot about the Vikings. Many of us Americans are Viklings! We just moved. We take no prisoners and we're all good looking!

  • The Navy should name a frigate the Sloop John B; not traditional I know, but it would still be cool.

  • this is pretty cool we talk about the ww2 in history

  • I used to hear this on the Mary J, and the Star gill-net boats in Port Gardner Bay.

  • And, P.S. Rangers...get your own songs and your own ships then. This is our Beach Boys and our ships.

  • @wilswasit104 the beatles were better

remember, naval uniform comes from britain-even the name "navy" is a british invention.

merely stating fact, show me one u.s. battle during ww2 where the americans actually killed more than they lost?

dday was a u.s. defeat,a national embarresment-if it wasnt for the british and canadians pushing strong then it would of been a different story.

  • @RangersGSTQ - no the Beatles were different, the Beatles and the Beach Boys were both great and had huge respect for each other; what a pathetic life you lead if all you can find to do is think of 'my dad is bigger than your dad' crap and give us your version of WW2. Incidentally, aren't you embarrassed that you can't spell 'embarrassment". You should be, it's always 'embarrassing' to use words beyond the limits of your natural vocabulary.

  • @RangersGSTQ Hum. a battle in WWII where the US inflicted more casualties than taken? Midway, Guadalcanal, the Slot, Tinien, The entire Philipines Campaign, Iwo Jima, Guam...in fact, in the entire Pacific Campaign, only the first actual island invasion, Tarawa and Pearl Harbor, itself were sites of high US casualties. Oh, and remember, 10% of the Pearl Harbor attacking fleet were shot down by unprepared sailors. What were the brits doing at that time?

  • @Iraqmajor 'What were the Brits doing at that time ?' . . . . We were fighting Facism and had been for two years before your Government decided it had better join in and dont forget we had a damn sight fewer men to face up to the Nazi horde that had swept through Europe .

Dont get me wrong Cousin ~ we appreciate the effort you made when you did join in but please remember that 'Rambo 1,2,3,4 etc ' were fiction not a documentary

  • @triumph48 Sir: Indeed, the UK fought the Battle of Britain in Grand style, however I'm curious what major land campaigns were undertaken by the UK in Europe between the fall of Dunkirk and June of 1944. Remember, Sir, the question was 'name a battle where the US inflicted more casualties than taken.' I named several.

  • @Iraqmajor ~ Sir , I appreciate your Pride in the endevours and achievements of your Military . However , I have no intention of debating who has the bigger stick with 'Family' . Theres enough trouble in the World and enough common enemies to keep us occupied without bringing that sort of debate into this sphere of entertainment .

  • @Iraqmajor What a stupid cooment. My country fought on in Europe when all others deserted us. Where were the bloody yanks in 1940? Had it not been for us it is quite clear that all others would have succumed. We didnt just have our backs to the wall... we stood no chance...but we bloody well didnt give in. London was the first city in the world to stand up to blitzkieg. We were prepared to see everything destroyed. Everything. This was our 'finest hour'.

  • @pogmathon100 Sir.. I salute you!

  • @Iraqmajor ~ Oh , I forgot , Singapore, Malaya and Burma .

  • @Iraqmajor What he F? Who are YOU? Speak to Military Generals..... you're probably some creepy little guy walking around in a dirty t-shirt

  • @greenlion009 Sir: Actually, I taught Military History at University and am a retired Major of Infantry.

  • Well, RangerGSTQ..thank you for your speech. You misspelled the pronoun "their." And you used "of" instead of "have," but I guess YOU know!

  • achzdck...U'r totally right. "your opponent as worthy "and all that military stuff. Things are just a bit touchy right now. Way touchy.

  • Gee, I didn't mean to get something started, but now that you mention it...USA, as f'd up as it is...at least we don't cow-tow to some antiquainted royalty system. Trump and Gates made their own money. They can piss me off...but, I'll stand by that. And they don't have some creepy wave when they go by in a limo...! And WE won WWII...make no mistake!

  • @wilswasit104 only because you had a large army

the us army got destroyed everywhere,so much so the british ministry of defense were getting worried.

if the us army didnt have such large numbers, make no mistake it would of been a different result.

even at dday the us got ripped apart,an embarrasment

very sad you lost thousands of men but they're sacrifice was due to bad strategy and lack of ability to fight.

the us navy...mmm what did they accomplish during the war? not much

    airforce....not much

  • Why can't all of you assholes go somewhere else argue about your petty fucking bullshit about which "Chickenshit Army" is better than another "Chickenshit Army"???? And leave us in peace to listen to the music??? Go refight all of your wars somewhere else....

  • Wow- can't believe the comment list. Who in the Britannia hell, is still bitching? Me thought THAT was all over and done with....sorta like the south. Come again, we'll kick your ass again! USA, and not apologizing! Best Naval ships in the world....WWII and then some.

  • My dad was WWII Navy, Radarman !st Class...he sat at the bottom of those big grey cruisers...but he made it home...I love this song!

  • Glad that guy said that..yeah, me...I mourn my dad WWII Navy, Radarman 1st Class. Sat at the bottom of one of those big grey cruisers...I just have to hear this and think of him!...Awesome Brian!

  • @achzdck i agree, the british and american troops are fighting a tough battle in afghanistan,if we argue amongst ourselves nothing will progress

Rule Britannia + God Bless America

  • @RangersGSTQ Oh, you're so touchy-feely correct. Bet ya love Rachael Ray too.

  • @achzdck no arrogance,just cold hard facts.

the british army were after colonies in asia (india, sri lanka, hong kong, southern china etc) we were also after control of the lucrative opium industry.

also hitler had no problem with the british people,we only got involved as we had an alliance with poland-also how many u.s. soldiers died in comparison to british troops? the usa fought a terrible war,if you didnt have as many soldiers as you did,it would of been a bloodfest

  • @achzdck everyone fucks with ya

u americans have no fighting spirit and never will have,a nation of weaklings and idiots, living on stolen land and run by a government that controls your pathetic lives.

also look into the history, the british army in the colonies was outnumbered, the REAL british army had bigger fish to fry in asia.....most of the "british" soldiers the colonalists fought were german mercenaries.

  • @achzdck haha ya navy is fucked usa no longer champion of the world

  • The USA armed forces have ZERO discipline.

The British Military is one of the Strictest in the the world.

    We TAKE NO SHIT

I wonder why the american army uses bagpipes....

From a Scottish and British Vet

    p.s. Nice song

  • @RangersGSTQ ....bagpipes...you mean the instruments the english were scared of when the scots were invading?? that originated in ireland?? talk about stealing ideas...

  • @Physcotropic give ya land back to the real americans...the natives ya dickhead

  • @RangersGSTQ ...errr im english..the yanks are our doing i believe...unfortunately....they are paying us back now though with their friendly fire tactics....

  • @Ronmusicone your dad was and always will be offically one bad motha f*cker and i wanna be like that when i join the army and im doing it to help my comrades in arms not any stupid reasons plus my 4 uncles in the army 1 in the air force and my grand pa in the marines and my bros friend in the army.

"Deutschland" on a journey of 4 months to South America.

  • @longbody01 it's not about rations. It is about the USa and it's pride...
