  • beautifully depressing

  • @boogieeck Best way to describe it ---

  • David is one of those artists that define a genre truly masterful in tone and song writtng.

  • Fantastic! One of David's best.

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • Cant stop listening! It is just absolutely fantastic.

  • incredible

  • Many of the songs on Life in Slow Motion were written from the perspective of characters rather than from David's own. This song was actually written for the film 'A Way of Life' and basically tells the feelings of the central character, Leigh-Anne, a disenchanted teenage single mother! Hence the 'tomorrow girl I'll buy you chips' line, which is the mother talking to her sick 'coughing under a windowpane' daughter.. It actually makes the songwriting all the more impressive, in my opinion. :)

  • @lemmingstu It does, thank you!!!

  • 156,442 views is depressing me

  • @graveworm210 its worth more!

  • This man got soul

  • love it!!!

  • This song is so relaxing.

  • How on earth have only 142,693 people viewed this? I feel sorry for the rest of the world!

  • @squeper agreed

  • I`m from the same town as David, Sale in Manchester. when I was a kid David would play his music in the streets and it was beautiful, how lucky I am and just to think L.S. Lowry is from the same city. some people are meant to do things and David found his.

  • I love the Harmony.xx

May u b here for a long time David.. to take us through all this feelings that are life I guess.xx

  • How tired I've been with so many artists , until today. Whut melody !

  • Great singer but he always has his eyes closed. He also shook his head after most lines. Has he got teretz?

  • @videoanator , Not sure when feeling and artistic expression of music became diagnostic of Tourette's syndrome? The chance of that is definitely much lower than the certainty of your inability to spell.....

  • One of the very few artists who are better live! Great song that has been missed by most here in the USA. One day they will wake up and realize this is one of the best talents to come along in the last twenty years.

  • @bklynsouthpaw . and so underated here. not many can bring tears to my eyes but David does.

  • Gives me shiver EVERYTIME I hear him singing...

  • God yess, i heard this song two years a go on the radio and finally found it :D

  • you have a very special voice that one couldnt possibly get tired of. See my video too if u like. ARTUR MARIA SIMBÜRGER .

  • David Gray, suas músicas são incríveis. O sentimento que elas tem me domina por inteiro.

  • omg 2 beautiful 2 be true, Gray is really awsome singer :D

  • Wow....

  • I love this song because it so perfectly expresses the futility of the atheistic worldview

  • How did this guy just come out and say what I've been thinking all my life, but thus far have been unable to put into words??!

  • @edgeleader I couldnt agree more. Its like he took the feelings right outta me and put em to words. Amazing.

  • REAL.

  • David Gray's a champ. Lots o' talent.

  • This song makes me feel so many different emotions. It's beautiful and it is pure poetry. I'm so glad David Gray provides me with an alternative to the rubbish on T.V/Radio.

  • First class! :)

  • WIth everything seeming so whacky and crazy in the world - we're all wanting to just be entertained and forget about it for a while ... David - Thank You for that because all I need is your music sometimes! Thank you - Thank you!

  • Maybe that it would do me good

If I believed there were a god

    Cut in the starry firmament

But as it is that's just a lie

And I'm here eating up the boredom

    On an island of cement

Give me your ecstasy I'll feel it

Open window and I'll steal it

    Baby like it's heaven sent

  • maybe he'd rather it weren't, can't get hurt so much, if it isn't love.

  • What an amazing song. My favourite from the entire album ...and it's tough to choose a favourite David Gray song!

I have had the privilege of seeing him four times (and counting). The most memorable show was his last stop of Life in Slow Motion tour at Deer Lake Park in August 2006. A warm Vancouver summer's day, with the trees and lake as a backdrop, fading into a crisp, clear, starry summer's night. Amazing.

  • Most amazing artist i ever had the honor of seeing perform and meeting.

  • A moving song. A question though, is David saying there is no God or is he referring to someone that thinks that there is no God?

  • @raymond052367 I think David is referring to someone who doesn't believe that there is a God; He's telling a story as if he was that person.

  • @raymond052367

For me he is saying that there is no God and no love, but it implies that there is something. Aint no love that's guiding me - but something is guiding me.

  • @raymond052367 I saw David Gray in concert recently. When introducing this song, he said he wrote it for the movie The Hitcher but it was not included in the movie. The song is from the point of view of a character in the movie.

  • man i really want to say something in appreciation of this song but david song's just leans you into silence.

  • this is one of those songs that I just can't stop listening to.

  • lovely!!

  • This performance is breathtaking.

  • I don't know if there's a word in the english language that means "both sad and beautiful", but this is the musical form of that definition.

  • that's deep buddy,and so true too

  • Three words... David Gray's songs

  • Another of David best songs, he has so many!!!!

  • takes one to know one homeboy

  • Reading all the comments was going well until this guy took a cruel, insensitive jab at someone who appears to be a little different from the norm.

I'm not saying you have to love everyone, but you shouldn't make fun of anyone. It's a terrible habit.

  • one of the most beautiful songs ever.

  • unreal

  • on winter trees the fruit of rain is hanging trembling in the branches like a thousand diamond buds......MASTERPIECE !!!!

  • such a beautiful song

  • JESUS CHRIST

  • the most moving piece of music

  • Really love his voice in this, powerful.

  • David Gray is underrated! I liked him from day one, and he's great live - so full of passion and energy with a great sense of humour!

  • SO fucking underrated! Have loved this song from the first time I've heard it.

David my man I love you!

  • @Joaquim822 i love the renewed desire for life this song gives me...:)

  • The news Bob Dylan zimmerman if you pref.....

  • What a beautiful song

  • I just bought his Life In Slow Motion cd and listened to this song, and I immediately fell in love with it. Completely underrated and absolutely amazing song :)

  • Me too. I think it's the best track on the album. SO darn original, and effective.

  • Love this song, and very underrated.

Is maybe a but unlike most of his stuff.

Reminds me of someone else, but not sure who.

Someone said it was reminiscent of Dylan, but not sure. Maybe a bit Neil Diamond and a bit Billy Joel?

  • Great upload man. Thanks for this.

  • At last an opportunity to see David Gray perform this Masterpiece.I saw it on the Jules Holland show in the uk back in 2006 bur didn't get the time to record it.Thanks for this 5*+++

  • makes me proud 2 b British!

  • No words can explain how i feel about this song

  • Fan-tabby-tastic song, can't get enough of David!

  • The lyrics of this song are so strong, I love it!!!

  • As bootyjuice27 said, Clune was an amazing drummer and the chemistry between dave and clune was brilliant on stage. As far as the new drummer being better, now way.

The broadcast shows i.e. tv were always tamed down but clune live was fantastic to watch we went to see clune play his part just as much as dave.

It's a shame they split and I feel that clune was a little hard done by, but then who knows why, what, when about it other than them two.

I certainly miss him and his creativity.

  • I absolutely agree with you there. Clune was great and in Davids interviews theres sometimes a sort of way he talks about clune which lets you know they had a close friendship, this shows especially in the "this years love" interview that u can find on his youtubepage. Im not sure why they arent together anymore, its a shame, keith prior is not bad, but clune was better!

  • Thank you for sharing this song.. one of my fave songs ever! David Gray is brilliant..

  • Just seen him at folkestone and he's great. as for the slated bit - i think that people see the sort of person who brought White ladder as dinner party music as being his audience. Damned because a million housewives saw it advertised and liked some of the tunes. Like whatever you want

  • I get slated for liking David Gray, I don't know what their problem is!

  • He's not always the most "hip" name to drop, but there is no doubt that David Gray is a great songwriter when he's on form. This track grabbed me as soon as I heard it - the phrasing on the verses is reminiscent of Dylan I think. Found it by accident though when I was actually looking for Whitesnake's "Aint No Love In The Heart Of The City"... Aye, that'll be fucking right!!! :o)

  • That backing singer is gone now, he;s actually the drummer, he was called McClune. This is such a perfect song

  • really...since when did they part?? i thought he was fantastic!

  • They parted in the beginning of 2007. The new drummer is muchh better i think

  • background singer should buy a new shirt. other than that, wonderful!

  • that's the clune, mate.....known for his shirts and his amazing skills on the drums. david did some amazing work with clune but decided they lost their "creative touch" together so he shit canned him and moved on....personally think clune is amazing but whatever

  • great

  • possibly one of my fave songs! beautiful song, beautiful performance

  • Thanks for this video, beautiful!
