A.A. is not describable because you can only know it through personal experience. There is no need to explain, defend or judge it. You can only know A.A. 's concepts through a personal decision to consider the suggestions and then take action to apply them to yourself. You will not get everything you want but you will find what you need....your own understanding.
The opposite of faith is fear. So you live in fear your choice. No , because fear takes away our power to choose what we believe. All religions teach Fear of God. A.A. suggest a choice an alternative way of of seeing ourselves, others and life in general. The scientific evidence for people to attend A.A. is the emotional and mental depression they are experiencing from their faith in NOTHING which produces fear of living!
As noted by many an AA " I didn't come here to save my soul, I came here to save my ass". Alcoholics Anonymous has shown me how to stay sober for over 20 years. I am not weak minded. I just could not stop drinking. Only a fool would condemn AA or any program that would help save so many people from self destruction. So many umpires willing to call the balls and strikes on others.
why do you need a "higher power" to quit drinking? How about finding a cause to fight for, or a hobby?

People dream of making a pilgrimage to Akron? I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
