Kingdom of Spain: Admiral Blas de Lezo 4000 soldiers+shore-based guns + 6 ships of line.

The Spanish Empire (Spanish: Imperio Español) consisted of the territories and colonies administered directly by Spain in Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia or Oceania. At the peak of its power, it was one of the largest empires in world history. It originated during the Age of Exploration and was therefore one of the first global empires. It lasted from the 15th century through—in the case of its African holdings—the latter portion of the 20th century.
@StefanZ17 Yeah, we all remember that time when Phillip actually DID invade England and restored Catholicism and everything-- Oh, wait, that DIDN'T happen. The war ended in a treaty in 1604 that couldn't rightfully be called a "victory" for either side... But it did manage to all but bankrupt Spain in the process.
You are incorrect! First of all Spain was virtually unbankruptable in those days, even though one bankruptcy did occur. Spain had at its disposal a limitless supply of bullion from the New World making that event very temporary. England did not and that is Why James I sued for peace first, NOT SPAIN. At the end of the war, Spain had mastery of the Atlantic ,control of the Low Countries, and lost no territory, despite English attempt dislodge her from there. Not looking like a draw.
It not nonsense because England was bankrupt and exhausted having gained nothing for that war. Otherwise why would King James I, Elizabeth's successor, have sued for peace with the Spanish? But maybe you can just tell us how many Spanish territories England conquered during that war? But let me save you the trouble because it was NONE! The Spanish kept defeating the English in the Caribbean.
I did not because the conclusions of the video are incorrect. One battle does not win a war. The real turning point was when the English counter attacked in 1589 which was decisive Spanish victory where after her navy gained the upper hand. The rebuilt Spanish Navy actually had control of the English Channel given that she continued to control the Low Countries for another 30 years.
The Spanish did invade. They successfully land marines in Penzance and Mousehole after defeating the English naval patrol under the command of Carlos de Amésquita. Read about it. Its historical fact.

England had better and faster fighting ships and superior seamen. England's superior skills, tactics, stratedgies, sailing and fighting skills won the day valiantly.
Spain never dared to attempt to invade the mighty little England again HA!
You are very wrong. At the end of the war Spain won most of the land and sea battles. Resulting in the fact that the Spanish Navy shipped 3X as much precious metals to Spain from the new World while the English could do little. After the peace treaty of 1604, England was forced to withdraw all its armies from Continental Europe and cease its attacks on New World Spanish settlements. The outcome of the 1604 treaty favored Spain.
In the end the Spanish Navy won most of the sea battles and control of the oceans. After the peace treaty of 1604 Spain remained the most powerful empire and Europe and England exhausted and gained nothing.

France once defeat by Charles V was at the end of XVI Century and the beginnig of XVII Century a Super-Power, the major Super Power after this period(in Europe), more than England(much more later) but was not a major Protestant kingdom-State at the moment(altought very divided) as England was(Protestant and catholic) but oficialy Protestant - thats the difference.
And Global Portuguese Empire was added to Habsburgs of Spain in 1580, until Their Own Restauration in 1640.
To cut a long story short, the Spanish didn't join the irish in the attack, and so the irish got slaughtered. Which is what I said originally, you insane fuckwit.
Thanks 4 ur explanation, but as u said b4 2 me, u take as a fact what Sean O'Faolain wrote 400 years after, and r u right? U can see far more different sources links in Wikipedia. By the way, dont get surprissed if u find some Celts ancestors of urs in Spain.

Do u know where the Irish leaders of Kinsale r buried? In Spain. Do u think an Irish Earl would be proud 2 rest in a land of cowards? Thats another proof of what u say is fake.
After the Irish defeat at Kinsale, O'Donnell left Ireland and sailed to Corunna in Galicia, Spain, where many other chieftains were already arriving with their families. There he was received with great honours by the Governor of Galicia and the Archbishop of Santiago de Compostela, where an Irish College was found. He was buried in the chapter of the Franciscan monastery in Valladolid. However, the building was demolished in the nineteenth century, and the exact location of the tomb is unknown
Why are you still posting this to me? I studied this part of irish history at university, I have a degree in it, with special attention to the O'Neill uprising and the Kinsale debacle. I don't need you to quote stuff you found on the net in an attepmt to prove me wrong. I spent 6 months of my life studying this subject, okay?
And I've spent all my life reading global History. Thats why I take sources from everywhere b4 getting an opinion. And thats why I dont care about flags or languages, only persons, since all nations have been created with love and suffering, good people and bad people.
@Olfux The History of Spain is the Greatest in the world, most of America from the United States to Chile our people speak spanish including the U.S.A. If England was the greatest empire all America should be speaking english don`t you think?
In reality it was that storm that hit the Spaniards while they were navigating towards England. Indeed, if that unsuspected storm would've not appear in that particular moment, the Spaniards would've landed in England. Consequently, the odds would've been in their favor. The Queen would've gone to a Spanish prison and a couple days later she would've gone through the inquisition.
The Basques r free 2 vote parties 4 Independence, but they dont do it. Dont u like free will 2 b part of Spain? R u Irish? Spain fought in Ireland against English invasions. Read some History 1st
No, Spain didn't fight, for example at the Battle of Kinsale 4,000 spanish solderis did not join their irish allies, and allowed them to be slaughtered. Seeing as I live in this part of the world, I probably know more about that history than you do.
Siege og Kinsale, in Wikipedia: The Irish army left the field in some disorder while the supporting Spanish army led by Ocampo tried to hold the charge and the ensuing masaccre. Outnumbered, deprived from any enforcements and provisions and under constant English bombardment the Spaniards had bravely and successfully defended the town of Kinsale against all comers for more than 3 months. I dont need 2 live in Ireland 2 read some History.
You are treating wikipedia like it is fact, first mistake. Second, wikipedia has no context. The Spanish were not supposed to sit in a fort, they were supposed to attack the english. When they decided NOT to attack the english, they were told to stay in the fort while the irish gathered a larger army (this could have taken at least a year). They did neither of the things they were supposed to do.
From the 1942 book "The Great O'Neill" by Sean O'Faolain, one of Ireland's best known writers, about the battle of Kinsale:
'O'Neill now saw two more regiments of foot coming up behind those facing him, and presently all four, together with Wingfield and the Squadron Volant began to move up against him. His enemies there must have numbered about 3,000 men, or nearly half the English forces.'
continued: 'The remainder were behind in the two camps ready to meet the Spanish assault. It never came. What happened next is inexplicable. It ended everything as suddenly as a thunderclap. As to why Don Juan del Aquila did not sally out, there is no explanation. An earlier hour may have been fixed with del Aquila, and when it passed he may have decided that Tyrone had altered his plans. Yet that leaves us wondering why the Spanish did not attack when they heard the sound of the fighting.'
1643, the Basque Scholar Pedro Agerre "Axular" in his book Gero.
"Baldin egin baliz euskaraz hanbat liburu, nola egin baita latinez, franzeses, edo bertze erdaraz eta hitzkuntzaz, hek bezain aberats eta konplitu izanen zen euskara ere, eta baldin hala ezpada, euskaldunek beerk dute falta eta ez euskarak."
if Felipe II would have named Captain General the Basque Juan Martinez de Recalde instead of the incompetent and self-proclaimed insecure of his duty, Duke of MedinaSidonia, no question the Armada wouldn't had fail.
It is often said that the campaign failed because of a storm. Yeah right!
The error lays simply of naming an "inlander" who had never set foot on a boat and quite frankly did have the smallest idea of sailing.
However got the job 'cause it enjoyed royal "juice"
In reality it was that storm that hit the Spaniards while they were navigating towards England. Indeed, if that unsuspected storm would've not appear in that particular moment, the Spaniards would've landed in England. Consequently, the odds would've been in their favor. The Queen would've gone to a Spanish prison and a couple days later she would've gone through the inquisition.
El7IncA, I wouldn't go that far as to resort to disrespect, however it is true that according to the anglophile " objectivity" it would seems as if the English never lost a single battle in their whole history, while the reality is stubbornly contrary.
While Spain was fighting the muslins....and kicking the muslins out of europe....remember those fucking english pirate protestant...lived in the trees like in the movie king arthur (the last one)....thats how british were, poor and miserable.., english known as the anglos...lion king went to the middle and got kick out by the muslins in 2 years...while the Spaniards fought the muslins for hundreds of years and beat them...thats difference between a spain and england.....Spain the VISIGOTHS!...
You ignorant nobhead, we invented modern civilizastion we we basking in the age of the enlightenment when you were executing people because priests didn't like what they said.
Yes, but England would become the greatest empire the world had ever seen. And even thouth they have declind they are still a major world power weras Spain is NOTHING!!
@73828 are u sure u pirate...well read this...The Spanish Empire (Spanish: Imperio Español) consisted of the territories and colonies administrated directly by Spain in Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and Oceania. In the peak of its power , it was one of the largest empires in world history, and one of the first global empires. It lasted from the 15th century through—in the case of its African holdings—the latter portion of the 20th century.
Spain was not one of the 1st Global powers. It was actually was the 1st Global Power. After the 1588 sea battle, the Spanish Navy went on to dominate the Atlantic to the point where it became apparent to Elizabeth's Successor, King James I, that he was forced by the sign a peace treaty of 1604 which was on mostly Spanish terms. Most of the Armada sea battle as told in the English language is nonsense.
@StefanZ17 dude Queen Mary of england wasnt kill and her husband was the King of Spain Filliph, elizabeth didnt exist u ignorant shit...just because bceause a movie made by hollywoodjew the the golden age, do u think thats real?....The King of England was the King of Spain...Phillip the one who fought againts the Muslims!...to stop invading Europe u ignorant shit...by the way english, scotish and irish are descents of Spaniarsh the celtis!...
You don't seem to understand English, for I was not criticizing Spain. I already know that the Spanish bore the brunt of the fighting against radical Islam and that most of the heritage of the English, Irish, Welsh, and Scots derive from Iberia. The Spanish may have lost the 1588 sea battle, but won the war. Que es tu problema? Yo no critique' a Espana, y no estaba hablando mal de los Espanoles.
@73828 Spain had emerged as an unified monarchy in 1492 following the reconquista of the Iberian peninsula; that very year, Christopher Columbus commanded the first Spanish exploratory voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, leading to Europe's eventual colonial engagement with the Americas. The Western Hemisphere thereby became the focus of the Spanish crown.
The greatest empire ever seen is debatable. The USSR actually had more land under domination than England ever had. The UK is not a major world power. If that were true, it would not have needed the US to bail them out in 2 World Wars from certain defeat.
@73828 I`m with you look at America conquer by England all the English speaking people in America from Alaska to Chile all the English buildings in the Americas, but wait a minute most of America speak spanish even the United States, California the Greatest land on United States mostly spanish something is wrong?
spanish armada was doomed from the start because they didn't bring no transport ships to move the Duke of Parma to england but Parma hated the whole idea of the spanish armada, because parma wanted to stay in the low countries and expand on but he didn't want to go to england, it was very unlikely that the spanish armada was going to succeed because the Duke of Parma had written of the whole compaign off before the spanish armada even set sail,

Do u know where the Irish leaders of Kinsale r buried? In Spain. Do u think an Irish Earl would be proud 2 rest in a land of cowards? Thats another proof of what u say is fake.

I never said the spanish were cowards. Why would you assume I was saying that?

After the Irish defeat at Kinsale, O'Donnell left Ireland and sailed to Corunna in Galicia, Spain, where many other chieftains were already arriving with their families. There he was received with great honours by the Governor of Galicia and the Archbishop of Santiago de Compostela, where an Irish College was found. He was buried in the chapter of the Franciscan monastery in Valladolid. However, the building was demolished in the nineteenth century, and the exact location of the tomb is unknown
vmc2004 3 years ago

If England was the greatest empire all America should be speaking english don`t you think?
deepintosports 1 year ago
In reality it was that storm that hit the Spaniards while they were navigating towards England. Indeed, if that unsuspected storm would've not appear in that particular moment, the Spaniards would've landed in England. Consequently, the odds would've been in their favor. The Queen would've gone to a Spanish prison and a couple days later she would've gone through the inquisition.

vmc2004 3 years ago
No, Spain didn't fight, for example at the Battle of Kinsale 4,000 spanish solderis did not join their irish allies, and allowed them to be slaughtered. Seeing as I live in this part of the world, I probably know more about that history than you do.
maureenOWW 3 years ago
Siege og Kinsale, in Wikipedia: The Irish army left the field in some disorder while the supporting Spanish army led by Ocampo tried to hold the charge and the ensuing masaccre. Outnumbered, deprived from any enforcements and provisions and under constant English bombardment the Spaniards had bravely and successfully defended the town of Kinsale against all comers for more than 3 months. I dont need 2 live in Ireland 2 read some History.
vmc2004 3 years ago
You are treating wikipedia like it is fact, first mistake. Second, wikipedia has no context. The Spanish were not supposed to sit in a fort, they were supposed to attack the english. When they decided NOT to attack the english, they were told to stay in the fort while the irish gathered a larger army (this could have taken at least a year). They did neither of the things they were supposed to do.
maureenOWW 3 years ago
From the 1942 book "The Great O'Neill" by Sean O'Faolain, one of Ireland's best known writers, about the battle of Kinsale:
'O'Neill now saw two more regiments of foot coming up behind those facing him, and presently all four, together with Wingfield and the Squadron Volant began to move up against him. His enemies there must have numbered about 3,000 men, or nearly half the English forces.'
maureenOWW 3 years ago
continued: 'The remainder were behind in the two camps ready to meet the Spanish assault. Yet that leaves us wondering why the Spanish did not attack when they heard the sound of the fighting.'

if Felipe II would have named Captain General the Basque Juan Martinez de Recalde instead of the incompetent and self-proclaimed insecure of his duty, Duke of MedinaSidonia, no question the Armada wouldn't had fail.
It is often said that the campaign failed because of a storm. Yeah right!
The error lays simply of naming an "inlander" who had never set foot on a boat and quite frankly did have the smallest idea of sailing.
However got the job 'cause it enjoyed royal "juice"

73828 2 years ago 4
@73828 are u sure u pirate...well read this...The Spanish Empire (Spanish: Imperio Español) consisted of the territories and colonies administrated directly by Spain in Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and Oceania. In the peak of its power , it was one of the largest empires in world history, and one of the first global empires. It lasted from the 15th century through—in the case of its African holdings—the latter portion of the 20th century.
El7IncA 2 years ago
@El7IncA

El7IncA 1 year ago
@El7IncA
StefanZ17 1 year ago
@73828 Spain had emerged as an unified monarchy in 1492 following the reconquista of the Iberian peninsula; that very year, Christopher Columbus commanded the first Spanish exploratory voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, leading to Europe's eventual colonial engagement with the Americas. The Western Hemisphere thereby became the focus of the Spanish crown.
El7IncA 2 years ago
I wouldnt say nothing. They have a higher GPD and stronger economy/ infrastructure compared to Britain nowadays.
randalon 2 years ago
@73828
The greatest empire ever seen is debatable. The USSR actually had more land under domination than England ever had. The UK is not a major world power. If that were true, it would not have needed the US to bail them out in 2 World Wars from certain defeat.
StefanZ17 1 year ago
@73828 I`m with you look at America conquer by England all the English speaking people in America from Alaska to Chile all the English buildings in the Americas, but wait a minute most of America speak spanish even the United States, California the Greatest land on United States mostly spanish something is wrong?
