if you're going 1 on 1 with knives, the longer one wins, putting all other variables aside (such as experience, etc.) because really, 0.5 oz difference isn't gonna matter in a life and death situation.
@FlyingBladePool SEALs wouldn't be stupid enough to take that with them on a Recon mission, the Recon 1 knife is probably for CQC and close protection missions.
@sgtschmitty8013 recon 1 opens up way too slowly with the lock back design to be deployed quickly in a cqc encounter. you'd be dead before pulling the blade out.
@sgtschmitty8013 that may be true but from personal experience, i would recommend a much faster knife :) although once you do get it open, it is solid as a rock
The Seals like many special ops organizations are free to source whatever they think will help them for any given mission. There are more than one knife with a mil spec stock number and they can source any of these. Individual units and individual Seals can and do private purchase items also.
@mrtakout Cold steel Recon 1?That is a folding knife isn't it?I can't imagine them using as their main survival tool. Not the best choice I would say..
@555Nato yea its a folding knife and they use it because its smaller and just all around a great kinfe i would say it has its disadvantages but at the same time it has its advantages
@mrtakout ,I understand but is an ESEE-3 too big?Is a TAK-1 too big?I would pick those sized knives over any folder. And we are talking about soldiers.Since when is a 3 to 4 inch fixed blade knife too big for these guys? They carry big guns and then such a small knife is too big?Makes no sense..
@555Nato i understand that but at the same time i think that it fits their needs and also they dont always carry huge guns or always want that weight on them but i see what your saying there must be another reason
@mrtakout ,I guess so .I did have contact with a member of those Seals. He told me several carried the Seal pup,and many others had all kinds of other knives.Merworx was one of it too.People forget that the Seals are not the holy grail in knife knowledge.Just because they are an elite combat unit doesnt mean they know it all.He told me that their favourite(in his unit i guess) movie at 'that'time was "Boondock Saints".I mean come on...Boondock Saints of all movies...Need i say more?
@555Nato hahaha thats hilarious ive also herd that they dont really carry one knife they carry many knives but they knew how to use them so guess that's all that matters
@mrtakout ,could be that they carry several.I do know WWII commandos carried several F-S daggers. But that was also because they broke easily.Anyway.Never put people on a pedestal. Not even those 'heroic' Navy Seals. You might easily be smarter than many of them...And killing isnt 'cool'anyway.Wont bring you further in spiritual ways. And inthe end we all die ,and then you'll get the bill of how you did in this life.Well Idont want to lecture. But that's how i see things ,so I'm aware ofmy actions...
@555Nato understood i doubt it im 13 ha and killing is never cool it should only be done when needed the only reason i put the seals higher is because or what they have to deal with and there sheer determination
@555Nato yea i know that was an accident my friend pushed me and i thought i had hit it right also i accidentally just pushed the vote down on your comment there i meant to hit reply
@mrtakout ,Ok so you'll always be 17 years older in your profile.Or you have to make a new profile with the same name.Or not showing your age. Then again. You can have nice conversations about this like with me haha.
hey, i was actually trying to purchase something like that but the websites i went on didn't have much of a variaty or what i was looking for. I live in Canada though, do you think you can sell me something like that since im in Canada?
