  • this what i call the post-modern, alternative, psychedelic mind-blowing rock band of our century who obviously take drugs in mass and might not even be recognized as a highly popular band by the general public at all,,,,,i certainly wish them luck because i like their style,,,,,,,,,,!

  • awsome :)))

  • Is he forcing an innuendo by holding the ballsack shakers up to the mic?

  • Oh man I love this song. It feels like a Bond theme song to me.

  • where 's my joint ?

  • the guitar kind of sounds like i am a wicked child by radiohead

  • c00l!

  • wow from listening to the album I thought the singer was a girl.. this guy sounds like grace slick from jefferson airplane... good shit regardless

  • Holy shit. this is fucking awesome.

  • sorry but he sounds nothing like Morrison, more like jefferson airplane.

  • @Manchester102

    Agreed !!

  • Bands like this gives me hope that there is still good music out there. Just you have to find it

  • I went to their 2011 show at the Metro in Sydney after stumbling across this tune (which opened a massive can of psych rock worms) and can honestly say it was the best live gig I experienced last year. Fucking love these cunts. Wish I could make the mission to Austin for the psych rock fest sometime

  • holy shit. totally blown away by this band. exactly what i've been looking for. just bought phosphene dream on eBay.

  • One of the best shows I've seen @ the Turf in St. Paul a few years ago (2nd only to any Black-Eyed Snakes show) The best thing about this band, that you don't get to see here, is every band member can play every instrument on stage. The ol' switch-a-roo. Fun to see. Also, their visual projection crew has got it down.

  • GOOD MUSIC EXISTS AND IS OUT THERE!!! LET'S GET FUCKING HIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!! CELEBRATION OF ART!!!!!!

  • he's he playing with a Wildkat? damm nice

  • epic beard

  • revival of the greats

  • this band is far better with all their effects in play, i love this band but i wouldnt listen to them for very long if their music was presented this way.

  • @3:28 LOL

  • this song sounlie from te 60,s cool though cant think of who they soud like

  • @spiritwolf50 The lead singer kind of sounds like a male version of Grace Slick. Jefferson Airplane maybe?

  • @spiritwolf50 He also sounds like Jim Morrison from The Doors as well.

  • Love the music. I was brought up on Velvet Underground, Great Soceity, Jefferson Airplane, Doors,.....While I agree this guy sounds like Morrison, Morrison was never this good. I'm from the Bible Belt, and this music is closer to the divine than those aesthetically terrible religious hymns I remember. The lead singer's voice is summed up best by Wallace Stevens: "In my voice you will hear its tragic drone rise liquidly in liquid lingerings, like wateray words awash." Beautifu song!

  • iiinnnssiiiidddeee ouuttssiiidddeee

  • This is as close as we can get

  • Anton also stated that the band Oasis was apart of the revolution.

  • choooooooooooooon

  • best stuff heard in a long time

  • You've gotta love a good, creative, cool band with a lefty guitar player! : )

  • fukin' COOL!!!!

  • What is that strange clavi, that he use? It seems its got a accordion structure

  • you suck. this song is tight as shit

  • Oh man, i just wanna see you in Chile!! november 12th is closer everyday...

  • Rosssz rezgések, de jó................

  • dude you sound just like jim morrison

  • these guys brought hope. just hope.

  • spliff is just an excuse to get high! this music is what does the job!

  • The Velvet Underground + The Doors + LSD = The Black Angels

  • @KRUSTYskates The Velvet Underground and The Doors were already on tons of acid.

  • @Armoureddinnerjackit oh shut up you bore

  • @KRUSTYskates The Doors + LSD == The Doors

  • @KRUSTYskates EVEN MORE LSD!

  • @badtux

yeah haha, reminds me of the velvet underground.

  • Best band since Sublime.

  • Okay, one drum, one drumstick. Can you get more minimalist / primitive than that?

  • Long live Mr. Mojo Risin

  • I love the music but fuck that singer is a complete rip off of Jim Morisson. If he was still alive he would be either laughing at him or pissed off.

  • @heshtech

what you think Jim Morrison was the first person to grow a beard and scream?

  • @heshtech im sure jim would be flattered and wana get wasted with him

  • amasing band ! thx good for the people who understund the doors and pinkfloyd

  • knottytrevor, i agree with the doors/JA couping. fer sure. This lacks the swank that Josh Homme brings to QOTSA and EODM, but I am impressed with your musical prowess and i think you have good taste...

  • Does someone knows the name of his piano?

  • @frozenpeople Albert

  • @frozenpeople its a harmonium

  • So

    Fucking

    Awesome

  • @hell0gitsie hahaha I bet you also thought the lead singer was hot too lol ;)

  • I always thought it was a woman singing... fuck !

  • Every time I listen to these guys, I just want to have hot crazy sex. To their music.

  • Gotta keep those lovin good vibrators!

  • A melhor que ja apareceu por aqui , MUITO BOM .

  • :)

  • Nice music

  • scream at 3:28 ... im fuckin flying

  • the doors! chyeah bwoy

  • Black Keys are better.....

  • @bobakadeushe And the Beatles are better than The black Keys, whats your point? They play different types of music.

  • @chodekicker The Black Keys> The Beatles you fool

  • @WootZillza Ha ha your a funny wee man

  • just saw them live the other night - AWESOME!!!!

  • It's like is the Doors and Jefferson Aeroplane had a baby? And Queens of the Stoneage and the Eagles of Death Metal had a baby? And those two babies met.

    And fucked.

  • @knottytrevor

    ha!

  • @knottytrevor i like that pineapple express reference

  • @knottytrevor and like when doors and jefferson aeroplane were fucking CCR joined :P

  • Comment removed

  • @PhilMatysik Lol, that's your troll face, sweety.

  • @knottytrevor

    thats great! good influence!!

  • @knottytrevor this is the product of baby fucking

  • @OmnisOrtus..... what the fuck does that mean?

  • @nerdygurl You would understand if you've seen Pineapple Express :P

  • @xXdeadpool82Xx - hey what did I post for you to reply? i can't remember, it must have been a while ago or something... oh and i've watched pineapple express :D

  • @OmnisOrtus Well, we don't know about them, but you thought of it. "Me think the ------protests too loudly."

  • @OmnisOrtus I'm sorry, but your comment says way more about you than it does about this lovely song. Listen to some Mozart and Beethoven, or even Gorecki, along with reading some Forster, Woolf, and Conrad, and your mind may be purged of that repugnant image.

  • @odovicor lol it was a pinapple express reference

  • @knottytrevor oh yah man... this is the product of baby fukn... for real..

  • @knottytrevor A big thump up you sick bastard (:

  • @knottytrevor (mimics beating off and jizzing motion)

  • @knottytrevor couldn't have put it any better way

  • the lead singer sounds like clinic singer, an english band of the 00's... go check them out you will like it.

  • «Illness, insanity and death are the black angels that kept watch over my cradle and accompanied me all my life…»

    Edvard Munch

  • What a Great Band! Would love to see them LIve!!

  • Wow...listen to the Doors much? Laaaaaaaaaame

  • First and foremost , they are a great band that i dont think can be denied , there sound is not original , there look is not original we would be silly to think otherwise.

Originality is as good as extinct , but lets appreciate the fact they are a damn fine band and play awesome music.

I love the whole neo psychedelic music scene , im not a hipster im 42!!!

  • Holy shit, that scream @3:28 was like Jim Morrison resurrecting himself inside of Alex Maas' soul and escaping through his voice.

  • The Doors.

  • Im goin to see them in melbourne next month, canny wait! anyone fancies it let me know

  • great band the singer sounds like jim morrison from the doors

  • @kev36able not only the voice ,, absolutely ...

  • Qué postureros son los BLACK ANGELS. Aún así me agradan.

Pero por dios, que alguien les quite de un plumazo esa cara larga aderezada las ray ban y el flequillo.

  • i truly enjoy this band.

  • just to preface my statement...the following is an opinion...this is fucking BORING.

  • I get to see them in a month :D

  • why is this band not on top of the world?

  • I'm only at 1:24...25...holy cow. So good.

  • Whoever says this band is hipster? or ripping people off? YOU PEOPLE ARE COMPLETE IDIOTS! The Black Angels are probably the best thing in music right now. sorry they arent nickelback you fucks. Listen to the Black Angels. dont make remarks of who invented psychedelic music or anyhting, the world should be bowing down to this band but instead we are giving praise to Lady Gaga and justin beiber. and just remember, The Black Angels are watching you.

  • @chisoxbaseball24 agreed. its funny cause this band doesnt give a fuck and arn't reading your gay comments dumbasses

  • @W4NN4B34RT5Y it dosent matter if they are reading them, ive meet the black angels, they arent the kind of people to not give a fuck about their fans.

  • @chisoxbaseball24 i never heard of black angels until i searched rooftops, looking for a nice rooftop for my wife in our new house

  • @chisoxbaseball24 I want to punch in the face for saying this band is the thing in music right now. I don't have a problem with this band, but you're an ignorant asshole.

  • @BorntoRocknRoll95 how am i an ignorant asshole? im not going to argue with you anymore because its not worth the time for the both of us but if people were bashing your favorite band you would say something back also

  • @chisoxbaseball24 I feel like I now owe you something after reading your poetic words.

  • Comment removed

  • @chisoxbaseball24 They are ripping off BJM, that's the only reason why they are popular. They're ridding the wave Anton created. Still great music...

  • @PhilMatysik That was Anton's point though. He wanted this kind of thing to happen. He wanted to start a revolution and he did. Anton is getting exactly what he wanted. He always does. He's Anton Newcombe.

  • @chisoxbaseball24 You do realize the whole point of calling someone a hipster is because they feel like their music, clothing and overall persona are better and more intellectual than the average bear.

Of course, the common public is known as the lowest common denominator.

But whatever, use the same analogies of Justin Beiber and Lady Gaga to argue your point, leaving you only to look like a big pretentious hipster douche.

  • @jeffgorchynski Im sorry, i cant hear your argument over THE BLACK ANGELS. :)

  • @chisoxbaseball24 Okay...?? Is there a point to your message or do you just like to come across as retarded?

  • @jeffgorchynski w.e. i dont wanna argue man

  • @chisoxbaseball24 its the same god damn thing for five minutes...thats not original its just awful...it never goes anywhere so I can't see how you think these hipsters are such gods. go ask your mom to buy you the new cold play boxset and stop being such a hypocritical douche. -Love, The Shanty Thieves

  • @TheShantyThieves you're awesome!

  • @TheShantyThieves This is a pretty poor rendering of the song; album (and proper gig) version totally sweet imo.

  • @chisoxbaseball24 P.S. The Shanty Thieves are watching you.

  • i dont think these dudes are ripping people off(at least not intentionally. i mean by now everyone is ripping someone off somehow when stay within the restrains of normal rock band , band.), but it just feels kind of forced to me. ive got a couple of their records and i like some of the songs and all, but it just feels sorta generic. i do however think it is cool that they are or will be working with roky erickson.

  • I have seen thses guys live and they do not rip anyone off. It is refreshing for a new band to go back to 60 psychedelic roots. These guys rock!!

  • They're like a cheap rip off of the Doors.

  • @degree7 Yes and I guess every psychedelic rock song is a cheap rip off of the 13th floor elevators . I don't agree with you , having a similar sound with something doesn't make it a rip off .

  • Comment removed

  • @degree7 Who said anything about inventing psychedelia . The byrds where psychedelic folk when the first started , I feel as the 13th floor elevators were Of the first to bring psychedelia into the rock scene ( not the first ). I used the 13th floors just an example though , because lots of bands at that time shared this short of lo fi , yet psychedelic sound each one tho being unique . The same I think applies to the bad angels , they might share characteristics of bands like the doors ,

  • @az0r22 I just listened to them for the 1st time on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert and was very impressed. They went acoustic in those tiny offices at NPR and the sound they put out was not like anyone I had EVER heard do acoustically! Amazing! As I was listening I did hear the old familiar psychedelic rock sound that reminded me of The Doors; I grew up w/ that music; BUT not once did I think they were ripping them off. I thought The BA had their own current and unique progressive psych rock sound.

  • @az0r22

Fair enough, the 13 floor El. were the first profiled Psychedelic rock band. Then the Byrds were a psychedelic folk rock band. The Yardbyrds a psychedelic metal band. Country Joe and the Fish a psychedelic country rock band. The Doors a psychedelic vaudevillian band. Steve Miller Band a psychedelic blues band.

So what are the Black Angels? A psychedelic psychedelic band? They're just a generic. And thus, "cheap" and a "rip-off".

  • @degree7 No I don't understand your reasoning , just because they are psychedelic and there has been other psychedelic bands before them doesn't mean they are cheap and a rip-off . I do agree that they are not unique in the way that the doors and the Byrds were , but still they are not cheap as they have characteristics that make their sound fresh and fun to listen to . You may not agree and I am fine with that since you seem to know much about music and I can see that .

  • @az0r22

All right, I was being too harsh by calling them a cheap rip off.

  • @degree7 velvet underground in some songs maybe , and that drone sound which reminds me of spacemen 3 , but I think they also have unique characteristics of their own and are very nice to listen to . I think you were being way wayyy too harsh on them calling em a cheap rip off . They don't seem cheap at all to me at least .

  • this is a great band. reminds me of the great music that came out in the 60s.

  • hipster? please, how unimaginative.

  • reminds me of jeferson airplane

  • Cool, but the maracas look like balls

  • @TheParam3dic

In Soviet Russia, maracas are balls!

  • Credit to the accordion player for not wearing sunglasses.

  • What is the big deal? I like them regardless of the origin of sound. I would like to see them live. If it is a retro sound I dig it. I could care less about complexity or how they dress. The songs are original and if you can not appreciate that fact and want to go on and on about how they sound like the Doors or something then you don't like The Doors. I like The Doors, perhaps this is what some doors fans have been waiting for. Something old but new. Rock on Black Angels!

  • @kjaxin1 hell of a live show. see them as soon as you can.

  • Sounds so much like Jim Morrison

  • @Zeppelin699 how does this sound like jim morrison? have you ever listen to morrison sing? not even close dude...wow! btw. this shit is awesome :)

  • Jesus, get off the page if you hate them so much, you giant douche!

  • I gotta say, the denim shirt has me flummoxed. The denim button down shirt was last popular in the mid-late 90s. Every corporation had their corporate logo embroidered on a denim, button-down shirt. Even worse were the "Looney Tunes" embroidered denim button-down shirts. No -- the 1980s rehash of the 1960s in the 2010's should have peace symbols. If you're black, you'd go with the "X" cap or the leather Africa pendant (in green, gold, and red 'mon). Amnesty International, dude!

  • @SteveAlbinisPussy Can you just let people be alone? Because it's quite annoying to see these endless (though well written) posts about how uncool many of this band's facets are. They may not be exactly your cup of tea, but please don't go on about this. It's just respect, that's all.

  • @SteveAlbinisPussy Hey mother fucker, let's hear YOUR band, it must be the greatest and most original thing anyone has ever heard.

  • @blunk23 I second this.

  • @SteveAlbinisPussy Just go out and do something of your life.

  • Actually, I was wrong about them being skinny. Their singer has a paunch. I guess the growing obesity in the U.S. has allowed for a new definition of hipster-ism, where the hip can now have a bit of a paunch. Keep pouring down those PBR's fatty hipster. I think after the skinny jeans have a 36" waistline, at that point, the party is over.

  • @SteveAlbinisPussy Wait a second, you're judging the bands talent on his jean size? Is that even like... aloud?

  • BTW, I am not the only one that think this band kind of sucks. They got a pretty mediocre review on Pitchfork. Seems like the criticism that the music is boring and just goes on and on, is something others have noticed. They're a fashion band, defined by clothing and know-who, much like the Fugs or VU. It's easier to take after these bands than say, the Beatles or FZ and the Mothers, who had oodles of talent. Every 20 years or so, a few 20-somethings get a boner over VU and so it goes...

  • @SteveAlbinisPussy You contradicted yourself.... You maintain that this band is full of hipsters and liked by hipsters but you point out that they were given a mediocre review from pitchfork... tsk tsk tsk

  • Comment removed

  • FREAKING AMAAAAAZING!

  • just bought alex's hat...

  • @acdc12196 Yeah, um, that's a commie hat, not really Alex's hat. It's like something someone from the Fugs would wear in the 1960s. Or maybe more like something someone in rural China or North Korea would wear. Of course, the timing of this 1960s rehash coincides with similar events -- war, global economic decline, etc. However, people are too dumb to do anything about it, other than hand over the keys to the U.S. treasury to Goldman Sachs (who will probably sponsor B.A. on Austin City Limits)

  • @SteveAlbinisPussy yea man its a cool hat

  • no words to describe how good this is...

  • May 13th @Slim's San Francisco with Sleepy Sun!

  • @leminimal Sleepy Sun, I like. They do something with the sound -- albeit a bit early Pink Floyd-ish, they do their own thing. The best of these psych bands I have heard, however, is Dead Meadow. They're really good. But you know how it works -- the bands that are most accessible (meaning they make simple music any idiot can stomp their feet to) end up being the most popular. That, and people are getting dumber and dumber (despite the Google and smart phones -- maybe they cause this).

  • Anybody else reminded of Jefferson Airplane by this????? Great song

  • @SteveAlbinisPussy your wisdom blows me away, I'm being serious.

  • @twostepsteezy It beginning to sound like 1990 again. I think I'll listen to Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians, protest Apartheid, and then check out that new Oliver Stone flick about the Doors. The Black Angels = Interpol. Boring fashion models just reacting to whatever trend pops up... a weak mirror image of a few decades ago. Can't wait until indie rock revisits GRUNGE! Yep, just around the corner. I think Vedder jumped the gun a little bit. Still need to revisit late 80s revisiting late 60s.

  • Well, I'm goin' down to Austin to join a psychedelic band.
