One of my fond memories of my Dad was watching Jumpin Bill on the grand ole opry, he even looked a little like my Dad. Bill was a great story teller with a natural comedy that was effortless for him. I am a little disappointed that more people havent found him on youtube but maybe soon. Thanks for letting me relive some happy memories.
I want the B side of this record!! The title was called "Unpucker" I remember hearing it on an old 78 at my grandparents house back in the early 70's Please if anyone happens to have a copy they can upload I'd be eternally grateful.
No markowee, this is still rockabilly. Bill Haley/The Jodimars and many more were cutting rockabilly tracks long before Elvis came along, Elvis was the one that brought the sound into popularity.
@1691bhm I agree that this is true, early rockabilly...although back in 1953 no one used that term yet. If you found this record in a jukebox in '53-'54 it was likely categorized under "Hillbilly" (as opposed to "Pop" or "Rhythm & Blues"/"Race") along with Hank Williams and others. You can bet Elvis was listening back in Memphis at this time. His early recordings and performances blurred those categories and the music got national attention.
@blizzy63 I make you right, and of course, this style of music blended together extremely well with another style known as "Jump Blues" performed by mainly black musicians , the "blended" result was then given the title "Rock and Roll" by Alan Freed.
