Yes, there's NO WAY he'd do that without a safety net. You need permissions to do this sort of thing and they demand insurance cover - which no company would offer for someone with the earning potential of a Hollywood superstar unless they were convinced that as much as possible was done to safeguard him. After the freak death of Brandon Lee you can imagine how nervous insurance companies would be over something like this!

Don't be so naive. Jackie Chan has always SAID he does his own stunts but then he has a vested interested in saying that, doesn't he? The truth is, you know jack-s**t about what insurance companies do with him while I know filmmaking; and I can assure you that it isn't only Chan's career that would be put at risk by him doing stunts without safety measures in place. No one wants to have worked on a film where somebody died or was badly injured without insurance!

But for his earlier Hong Kong movies, he just did whatever he thought he could do, which results in better and more dangerous stunts. But it also means he gets injured a lot which are shown in the outtakes of his older movies.

Absolutely. I've seen one of the documentaries on him showing his earlier work and recounting some of his injuries. I wouldn't for a moment suggest he isn't an amazing performer with a track record of genuine stunt work but one shouldn't be deceived that he now works 'without a net'. When young, people tend far more towards reckless behaviour. I doubt Chan would risk his life at all today.
