  • this race was pretty much hp unfortunatly both cars weigh about the same (around 3380 lbs) the only thing is you have a s/c v8 against a turbo charged (better boostage method than a s/c) inline 6 cylinder with tons of compression and torque to go with it. the mustang already lost the race since it had a s/c that took hp to make the hp it had to the wheel robbing it of power and a win. plus gear ratios as a ford person i know that the cobra could be geared better.

  • holy crap, does anybody else on youtube these days know why the Japanese DON'T typically use V8's? it's 'cause of a bit of a gentleman's agreement WAY back in the day when all the manufactureres agreed to cap the engine displacement of road cars at a certain limit. that's why 4 and 6 cylinder engines are so common. AND forced induction. adding turbo/superchargers doesn't increase engine displacement.

  • I4's and I6's will be at the pump a lot less than those V8's. V8's are still cool though, but my I4 Focus still gets around town with my foot in it for three days with the gas light on. I only went to the pump after the third day cause I didn't want to get stranded. V8's gas light on, pull over now.

They also chose to make six and four cylinder engines instead because A.) they are less heavy and more balanced.. more suited for the circuit cars they aim to make. B.) everyone else in the world uses 8cyl engines.. why would everyone want the same car? The new nsx has a v10.. the LFA has a v10 as well. Just thought i would let u in on that.

There may be some restrictions on bigger engine, higher emission vehicles over there.. but that is not why they dont put v8s in their cars. Higher emission vehicles get taxed more all over the world. Not a big deal.

The rnt that heavy,n they have a great rpm range,but look at the r34 which I love those cars n mustangs the most,the r34 is fucking heavier then the stang by a good amound n they were about even to me in this race.But their isnt anything wrong with a 4 banger,I6,or V8!! They r all great engine,well mainly Ford n Nissan engines r great.LOL!!

  • The only issue with a 4 banger is it takes alot of cash to make great numbers,unlike a I6 from a skyline or a supra or a V8,with those 3 motors u can make great power very simply with little cash,even if u do a all motor no turbo-supercharger is very easy to make a fast V8,alittle more cash to do it with a I6.Plus the ford cobra motors r aluminum blocks not iron like a skyline or supra,the gtr motor weighs over 600lbs n a cobra is 425lbs,thats a big diffrence,so y do u say v8s r heavier?

    KA24DE = i4, SR20DET = i4, RB20/25/26DET = i6, 1/2JZGTE = i6, LS1/2/3/4/7/X/9 = v8. Apparently the ls engine is lighter than the ka, and rb, and jz engines, but barely heavier than the sr20, and it makes more power than an sr20 so = lighter, strong engine = good for drifting. For dragging though i have no idea whats best cause im not that type of guy, but i'd like to use a rotary, maybe custom 4 rotor.

  • @ItsMrWinters LS1 is roughly 20lbs heavier than ka24de not lighter. RB and JZ are heavier than ls. VQ is lighter than ka and on my scale was around 10lbs lighter than a turbo sr. So don't forget that engine.

I mean even though it is a v8 and the ka is an i4, ls1 is all aluminum and ka is either all iron or iron block with alum head. I'd take a ls over rb and jz though all are great engines. VQ is lighter than ka? dang, but i'm not sure the prices on a vq in a 240. Sr isn't the choice for me.

  • @supraownsany91 Yes, 4 and 6 bangers are lighter, but not that much. When people demand an import, weight is a factor in peoples minds, therefore the company produces lighter cars. When people purchase American V8's, they're mainly morons looking for balls to the wall power. The engine itself isn't much heavier. Compare AE86 Corolla and Foxbody mustang. The AE86 is only 200lbs lighter, not that big of a difference for being almost 3x the power. V8 is the superior engine between weight and power.

My all cast iron 5.0L in my truck on the other hand with all it's accessories and what not weighes about 550lbs. Inline blocks are much longer by nature, thus, more block=more weight. Not saying all v8's are lighter. Just pointing out how you obviously haven't thought this completely through. Heck, even the is 300 weighes> a 302
