  • EAR RAPE!

  • What the hell just happened?

  • What the FUCK was that noise?

  • what is the pulling force?

  • Next time use a bolt and make a pointy tip and cut off the screw part in the back

  • Thank you so fucking much youtube, for putting that damn ad in the way just before the thing fired.

  • try to make it stuck in to wood

  • new mouse trap maybe?

  • if the first video is 14 secs y not put pt1 and pt2 together?

  • hey grimelab i was wondering if you could tell me where you got the material to make this? thanks

  • yay railwayrilfe

  • TO SEE THE 2ND PART, click the link in the video!

  • these are some sweet beats...lol just teasin

  • That is so awesome

    Unlimited source of firepower

  • About how many FpS (feet per second) do those fly at ? its just magnets right?

  • Always the guns, Gauss technology should be used in any otherways than weapons :)

  • it is.

    its used in maglev trains.

  • Yes well if you look at history you'll find that most of the significant technologies were weapons before a controlable source. For example nuclear power was a weapon before a power source and it is very liklely this will be aswell as a few others.

  • Weapons are bad mmkay! :D

  • Wow... never thought of it that way :D

  • @motorhead29

    Not exactly....

  • this "airsoft gun" could kill easily.

    Hmm...

    Ill take all you got...

you'll find the money already in your acount...

    Muwahahahaha!!!

  • lol you could make an airsoft gun like this xD

  • air gun do about 100fps to 450fps and a bullet is about +1500fps

  • An air gun is actually about 1,000 FPS

    Airsoft is about 100-300 FPS

A bullet will vary, from 750 (magnum caliber) to 1,500fps

This is not a gauss gun. A gauss gun has coils in it, and projects using electro-magnetism.

  • actualy depending on the calibre, a .22 bullet with 32 grains is suposed to go about 1,400 fps acording to the amunition boxing

  • that shit could hurt

  • so how does it work? sorry, new to something..like this. when the first separate ball hit the first magnet, the force knocked the other one loose? or did it change..polraity..and then launch the second ball?

  • this is not a gauss gun, it's a kinetic magnet gun, using a magnet to hit the nail to launch it.

  • the ball hit te magnet launching the next ball dude its gauss you can pause it and YOU can take an hour to look at it and realize that there is a large setup of two magnets two ball in a row and the ball hits the nail sending it flying

  • no, a gauss gun uses ELECTROmagnetics, usually a coil of conductive wire which is electrified and magnified by a huge power jolt, like the one coming from a bank of capacitors, don't ty to make something look like something it's not.

  • where did you here this it could be used with electromagnets but it doesnt HAVE to most arent, i made one in my living room with magnetics search mini gauss cannon and click on the first one.

the dude may have a freaky english accent but he explains it pretty well. the only gauss guns iv seen are with rare earth magnets but look it up

  • thats a coil gun

  • guass guns and coil guns are the same thing, nothing like what this guy made.

  • this isnt a gauss gun... they're just magnets - gauss guns use electromagents and can achieve so much more power and velocity.

  • no dude thats a gauss cannon, since it aplies the same laws of electromagnetics

magnetic and electric force are the same thing, in differnt forms

  • Right, but a gauss gun works by using several stages of electromagnets in coils to pull or push the projectile. this uses kinetic energy achieved from the movement of the magnets. There is a difference, gauss guns have no moving parts other than the projectile and trigger mechanism.

  • coil (gauss) guns/cannons/rifles can be multi stage but can also be single stage. They all use electro magnetism so it doesn't have any moving parts except the projectile. Using stable (earth) magnets is far less efficient as you cannot shut them down to let the projectile pass without being attracted the wrong way. This is just a kinetic cannon using magnets as propellant.

  • same laws? Sure, but since you're using electromagnets the whole gun is different, and only with electromagnets it's actually called a gauss gun. This is something like a magnet gun i guess.

  • hmmm tell me the difference between an electromagnet and a magnet

  • well a magnet pulls shit and an electro magnet pulls shit electronically recoone219 :)

  • dude r u retartded where the heck did you here that gauss guns dont ave ANY electromagnets in them at all you could hook one up to one that would be cool but its stilll a gauss gun, its not electromagnets you were seeing it was rare earth (stable) magnets that are pretty strong, a setup of 8 of them costs $8.99

gauss guns use just magnets and ball bearings

  • oh my god that is awesome!

  • That is incredible. Imagine if you have hundreds of those magnets. Would they become so fast as to actually start breaking apart as they bump the other one? WOW I have to give you a perfect rating on this one.

  • its a gauss gun.....just not a variation your all used to

  • That's awesome!

  • I actually found rubber-coated magnets that transfer the kinetic energy much better, and also don't break once you get above ~15 stages.

  • @grimelab I doubt the rubber coat transfers the energy as well. The energy transfer is simply the shock of the impact moving through the magnet and knocking the last metal ball off. At any rate either way the magnet can still break the rubber will just help to hide the break causing you not to notice.

  • @grimelab doesn't the rubber absorb some of the energy,?

  • @dennismeukens fail

  • Finally, a somewhat dangerous magnet gun!

  • hey dude... actuallly this is NO gauss gun... ;-)

  • Yeah, it is. "Gauss" means the attraction between magnets. You, sir, have played too much fallout or STALKER.

  • as said on another youtube-video:

gauss is an outdated unit for the magnetic flux density. this gun uses a magnetic field but thats all.

refering to wikipedia, a gaussgun is a machine wich accelerates a magnetic projectile with coils wich are turned off at the right moment. it needs high current to work. an inductive gaussgun uses conductive projectiles wich is accelearted by a very fast switching magnetic field. THIS gun actually uses a bit kinetical energy - not electrical...

  • also this gun will destroy itself on high speeds because neodynium magnets are are not much robust. also in theory the contact-point between a sphere and plane side is "infinitesimal" small. actually a "point" is dimensionless... so there will be a very high force wich will cause either the cube or the sphere to break on high speeds. so u see: this gun is either a gun, nor a gaussgun.

anyway this thing is cool and rocks. but its NO gauss gun :P

  • Tl;dr. Lol, joking. Great gun you've got.

  • its not a railgun nor a gauss gun....

  • Railguns use Fleming's Right hand rule, mathematics which basically boil down to this: if you pass an electrical current across a conductor, the conductor tries to move at right angles to the current flow. so if you let it, and make the contacts into rails. it can move and keep accellerating. so if you apply enough current, the conductor will travel fast enough to keep going when it leaves the rails at the end. fast enough and it will actually have some penetrating power.

  • @PrimoVids or red faction

  • @PrimoVids lol XD so thats what it meant. i was so disappointed by the vids taht said "gauss rifle" or something like that and it shot magnets. i was expecting something like lasers coming out of those guns D:<

  • @Geccola They can make some crazy shit happen, but sadly the MAN hasn't invested in this kind of thing. YET. I think.

  • WAWCH !

    That's cool !

  • You'll shoot your eye out, kid.

  • how do the ball bearings get from one side of the magnet to the others?

  • The magnet pulls the bearing from the left, and kicks off the 2nd bearing on the right. With each stage, the bearings gain more and more momentum.

  • ah i see now

  • lol, I saw the nail hanging there off the steel ball on the end, and I was like, This isn't gonna end too good......

lol, it would be a good idea if you could give the projectile some sort of direction (with a pseudo barrel perhaps?)

Sigh, why I am giving all those kids out there reading this ideas?

  • Yeah. I experimented with that, but the nail has no spin so it basically tumbles. A fun modification is to stick about 10 smaller nails in place of a single large nail. They scatter like a shotgun.

  • haha! sounds very.....unsafe....

    xD

  • @CrashPlague cuz the cant possibly get past 10 feet per second? lol get worried when they start making a coil type magnetic accelerator.. :-) The navy got one that fire a projectile through 4 feet of concrete.. lol be afraid they don't point it our way

  • that went clean through it. i got a gaussian rifle with 12 gears and it shot and broke 6 windows of the teenagers house that rolled my yard

  • that'll learn thems pesky kids!!!

lol i hate people that do stupid shit like that, they give good teens like me a bad rep. :(

  • Damn!

  • *5 hrs later* "OMFG!!! MY EYE DAMMIT!!!"

  • he'll be on the news with a missing eye.

    lol

  • nailed it

  • very cool idea!

no electronic magnets needed at all!

do us a favour and slap a tube at the end of that and guide the nail into a can.

cans give us good prespective as to its firepower.

    very good idea!

  • I perfer a hamster stapled to a bullseye.

    send the nail through him.

  • Wow!! i don't know what to say? 5/5

  • Note for those who want to try at home: I was able to extract maximum energy out of the magnets by ensuring that the center of the ball bearings matched up exactly with the center of the magnet. In addition, the ball bearing contacts the rail in only two places (the groove is square), minimizing friction. The magnets are taped & glued securely to the board so minimal energy is wasted to recoil (shifting the magnets.)
