Wow, this video footage of these legendary performers, along with a well respected blues singer, an actress, Mae Mercer, is just priceless. Howlin' Wolf is arguably, the greatest blues performer of them all, and his guitar playing sidekick, Hubert Sumlin is the last of all of these performers, to pass away (12/04/11). I wouldn't doubt, that they're all jammin' to this song in heaven right now, lol, R.I.P. to them all...
everyone complains about todays music, but really, I dont give a shit. lets just be thankful that these masters existed and made their music to live forever. and really, there are as many good artists now as ever, its just hard to find them among everything else. modern times allows us to listen to whoever we want whenever we want, and it allows people to introduce their own music to the world a lot easier. I love it.
@MrOnutz: I think he's playing an Epiphone quitar, made by the Gibson Co, but have no idea which model it might be. Anyway, that old school sound of those earliest pickups through tube-amps is as warm as it can get! Love it!! Thanks for all your 'educational' uploads 'Yumgui" !!
Besides the wickedly sexy allure of the presenter, no cover of this track come even close to the original. Hubert clocked them licks like no tomorrow! Howling Wolf You's the man!
Sometimes I wish I could make a sign like they have at the zoo.
Anybody with ears can hear the power of Howlin Wolf and the mastery of Hubert Sumlin. Some people need auto-tune, a dozen producers, and loud effects in their music... Thank God I'm not one of them.
It may say 'Howlin' Wolf' but those of us in the know, realize this is another golden moment for Mr. Sumlin. His playing is what makes this a classic..... yeah, if you agree then ...well.... nuff said....
Go Hubert, another classic sick blues from one of the masters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paddy2youse: You're bored because you have no soul. When you do a gut check, there's nothing there. This music speaks to three places: the mind, the heart and the private places of real men and woman. If you can't feel it in all three places, you are an empty shell.
Sorry, but your last comment sounds more than jaded to me ...
All I can hope is that you will one day come out of your personal frustration, whether it be white or black, about the fact that you can't make music like these people did in their day !
If you practice your music rather than your failed wit, you might get there ...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
1.) Sorry. So boring. So rudimentary and flat. The cult built around these old blues dudes is the work of self-congratulatory, White geeks who have created their own competitive measure of hipness. Fail. EPIC FAIL.
2.) Ms. Mercer sounds really stoned or really ignorant. Your choice.
Wow, you're a cynical douchebag. Anyone who knows anything about music, no matter what their background, would recognize the musicality in this performance. Howlin' Wolf is a legend -- this is true -- but he was also the front man of a tight, well-disciplined blues band that could rock a crowd.
The "old blues dides" you speak of are not famous for being famous; they're famous for being great musicians, song writers, and performers.
@paddy2youse If you are bored with Howlin' Wolf and his band, you are probably dead... you have no emotion, see a neurologist, psychiatrist, psychologist, and get all the professional help you can get... or better, just commit suicide, you're a non-living thing anyway.
Hey, look who it is!! It's Triumph72, spreading more of his holiday cheer! Man, if only you were a tad smarter. Perhaps you'd have made that high school debate team back in the day. Maybe then you wouldn't be such a bitter little cunt. Hey, good luck with that. Oh, and keep peddling how Zeppelin didn't steal from the original Blues man. You slack-jawed simp.
@67goldtops Incorrect, schmuck. Not once did I say Zep didn't steal from the Blues men. I merely suggested that Jimmy Page did not go around saying "I wrote You Shook Me and I Can't Quit You Baby", NO ONE would be moron enough to believe that Page went around saying he wrote these songs. And by the mere fact that you needed to post twice in a row, you're the schmuck who appears frustrated. You're a know-it-all. The worst kind of douche there is.
You're so incompetent, you really think the crux of the matter is whether or not "people knew" if Zeppelin stole material. Of course no one really believed Page wrote the tunes. The point is, Page didn't care. Page acted with impunity, because he knew the amount he'd make in royalties would exceed the amount he'd inevitably have to pay after being sued. The "knowledge" of the listening public was irrelevant. Page's actions in USING the original artist is the issue. U cunt.
@67goldtops So Page was greedy. Who gives a shit. Get over it. Pull the stick out of your ass and lighten up. And stop sending me messages and links. I don't read or look at them, because as I said before, you are a pompous, arrogant dick. Die.
@Triumph72 Yeah, the problem isn't about boasting that u wrote said tune, cuz if u didn't give attribution in the 1st place, that is loudly enough implied.
WOW! He was something, eh! I thought that Stevie made up the solo on his live "In the beginning album" but no, I guess Stevie pretty much played it note for note, with a little more aggresiveness!
Now I know why blues musicians often state Hubert Sumlin as an influence.
@MrOnutz its an epiphone , the headstock can clearly be seen in another video from this same show, i think its a mid 50s epiphone zenith, i saw one that was a 53 or 54 with that same mark on the headstock , also hes using an archtop pickup, probably a dearmond
@MrOnutz Godawful Youtube has some kind of crapped-up BS that won't take my info with links to more info no matter how I spell it. Epiphone! There! I said it! Got a problem with knowledge? Why Yes, YT, you dooo. Play the blues. Peace.
@MrOnutz i don't remember the gibson's model name, but there is the godin 5th avenue, looks the same, and it's wuite good, it's also at a great price.

@paddy2youse Wow...get a life. The Howlin' Wolf is a badass.
So:
1.) You're an ignorant little prick who doesn't know what the fuck (s)he's talking about.
2.) Go comment on the modern auto tune bullshit that somehow qualifies as music these days.
3.) As I am a musician myself, I can find that: A- You are a dipshit. B- You need to jump off a cliff. C- GTFO of America.
This IS American Music. If you don't like it, DON'T LISTEN TO IT!!!
