@1musiclvr Yeah, I agree...Spotlights were popular in the 50's, but I was never really sold on them. I particularly didn't like the holes that had to be made! Thanks!
My dad had one of these in the same color that he bought in Garden City, Kansas. I drove a black and white one to high school back in the early 1980's. They are my favorite car!!
@55lincoln Hey, Warren! I think brightwork in the interior is a great feature..that's why I trimmed out my 08 and 09 Mustangs with plenty of bright work. All dark interiors are depressing to me! Thanks! :) Jack
This is a beautiful car, Jack, they look very similar to the Packard Clipper & Plymouth Fury of the same year, it was clearly a popular & successful look in '55 !
I love the styling of the 1950's, the cars were works of art in my opinion with great colour combinations :)
@drewerz01 Hey, Mike! Very true...Plymouth joined the crowd with some bold styling in the same vein as Packard and Mercury. I'm sure their sales went way up because of that..they had been so conservative before that. It's interesting how much secrecy about future designs was present at the time. Although I figure most of the stylists for all the companies went to the same design schools...plus one chief would go to another company. Exciting days! Thanks!
@MrLambFries Hey, Brian! That is true....Packards were tied to the dream car "The Predictor" which had these big flat hoods and I think Mercury bought into that same school of design...They had moved away from sculpted panels to large expanses of flat panels, trimmed out with fanciful stainless trim. Thanks! :) Jack
The 55 and similar 56 Big M are nice looking cars. I used to look forward to Ed Sullivan advertising the Big M. Apparently Ford is going to discontinue Mercury. Ford always seemed to have a problem with what to do with Mercury. They were up and down and up and down and now gone. I had a Colony Park and it was very enjoyable.
@cheddyrod Hey, Chester! Yeah, the 56 refined the 55 look, and developed that very nice side trim, that made two tone paint more stunning! It seems to me that Mercury was the most viable when it really became its own car...not mimicking the Ford or the Lincoln. This car would be a good example of that..as is the Turnpike Cruiser. I think this shows what happens when you don't have a clear vision for a car. I remember Sullivan and his niece pitching "The Big M"! Those were the days! :)Jack
The only blemish on the car is that spotlight.

I love these mid-fifties Mercs. I like that stainless steel trim inside. Very much like 55 Lincoln that I like so well. Thanks Jack.
