  • "Come and eat some SPAM!"

  • I love how odd this video is. GREAT Tom Waits song

  • very funny

  • ok

  • I wish we Germans would actually speak like this.

  • That poor dude on the train. This is hilarious.

  • this video cracks me up

  • It means something along the lines of "Don't be late" or "Be punctual," which makes sense since the album has a kind of Alice in Wonderland theme to it.

  • Come and eat some spam.

  • ahahahahahahaha

    fucking genius

  • its not german at all, its not any language. its just jibberish haha. he says it in an interview. but even if it is total bullshit and makes no sense. waits makes it sounds so goddam beautiful!

  • He´s imitating that CRAZY tea drinking HARE from Alice in Wonderland, in case you wonder

  • Question, is this as hilarious and creepy for fluent Germans as it is for me? Despite it being mostly gibberish, it has a German sound to it from my untrained ear.

  • @EyMeng It's really fucking hilarious. It actually is german, but spoken in a deliberately stupid tone ( Please don't think they talk that way in Germany ).

  • @EyMeng

komme nicht zu spät (if that's written correct)

that's the only German I can hear lol

  • @yousuckhardtime

Sie punktlich. I Believe it means punctual

  • @Loupland "Sei pünktlich. " = "Be on time"

  • @MrMarty1K

    cool!

  • @yousuckhardtime "Komme pünktlich. Sei nicht zu spät." = "Be on time. Don't be late."

  • sei punktlich

  • Peter Griffin needs to sing this.

  • @Hirnlego999

God, that fucking show is awful.

  • One of my favorite concert going moments of all time was seeing Tom perform this song. He turned it into some kind of demented rockabilly number.

  • shalöten pö te fü.

  • hoogen shal la la

  • And We Can't Be Late!!

  • I've always pictured crazed old Felix cartoons when I hear this song. So fucking good.

  • @FunnyCowboyDance Those cartoons scared the shit out of me.

  • Jesus, him singing German is one of the best things I've ever heard.

  • Pure fucking genius.

  • 2:25 whoops...

  • Hey, that's my uncle.

  • @Darkreep obviously, what is doing on a German train anyway?

  • @KyosBlog looks more like the scottish rail actually

  • @valhala89 Being from northern Germany I know the train in the video. This type of trains is being used by "Metronom" Railways which is going on between Bremen, Hamburg and cities in Lower Saxony like Uelzen and Hannover.

  • @NetterOger I live in Hamburg, and I recognized the train right away as well :)

  • @TheDanny61 I live in Flensburg, and so did I :)

  • It's Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher on a train!

  • I love the sometimes murderous look on this guy's face..... like he's seriously gonna chop you up and store you in barrels beneath his basement. Great vid!

  • great video...

  • When Alice and Blood Money came out,I hadn't heard till I walked into a record store one day. Thought I'd died seeing the display for both albums. 2 at once was very cool!

  • oh wow fucking a this just blew me out of my seat.

  • Nice idea.

But nothing to make fun of, really. Most productive nation in the world.

  • @NickeyWhitfield

this post just sucks!!go and shake hands with some nazis for this great comment!!

and again greetings from germany the most productive nation in the world!

    lolololololololololol

  • @fallout19xx what does that have to do with the Nazis????

  • Awsome, makes me wanna tip some.

  • Leiginpfleisch Regenpär Leilando!!!

    Komme nichzu spät!

  • @lieblingsvater

I think he meant to say "Leichenfleisch" which means Corpseflesh in German. Im from germany, but even i cant say for sure, what the hell he shouts^^ But i love this song anyway. :)

  • Im from Germany and yes he talks about to be in time because in germany its importent

  • @girly184 es ist von dem album "Alice". es handelt von dem großen weißen kaninchen, daß immer angst hat, zu spät zu kommen. alice im wunderland.

  • TW, always superb ... even in "Raw" German ...

  • SIDECOOKIES!

  • "komme nie zu späääät...komme nicht zu späät...komme nicht zu spät....SEI PUNKTLIIHH" gorgeous

  • i thought it was fake german

  • @DesolationR0w it´s 90% fake german

  • man I don't even know what hes saying.

  • It's Wits at his best. Leave us going Huh?

  • i like the video that guy have a fece of Kommienezuspadt

  • fece?

  • face

  • schön nordwestbahn erste klasse oda wat

  • ok....he is not german and can't have a perfect accent.....is obvious!

  • hahaha

what kind of professor do you have?

its just tom waits accent thats all.

and it just means: dont be late be on time

  • I ran this song past a German prof and she says it's German but it's some form of German street slang spoken in east Germany. Oh Tom, what'll you think of next?

  • I am german and this is just plain standard german.

  • correct.

  • Sweet, I get to tell her she's wrong.

She was kind of a bitch, anyway.

  • @NinjaStarODavid that is so wrong!!streetslang???:D:D:Dich lach mich kaputt!the hookline is broken german and the rest is just a fantasy language (by the way you can read this on every tom waits-page and don´t have to ask a prof.)

  • A Imitation of the German Punktlichkeit

  • i aint german but i think the lesson we could all learn from this man is that being to late is not a problem

  • Ya, it's mostly gibberish.

It's basically 'Communist Pig' though. 'Can't be late' is very important though. Someone else might be able to explain it better than me.

  • he's pronouncing the words wrong, but it more or less translates to:

    "Don't be late

    be on time

    punctual"

  • haha me to :D it give me a laugh the first time i listen to it ;)

  • Ich komm immer zu spät. War schon immer so und wird immer so sein. Einmal kam ich 6 Stunden zu spät zur Schule. Was soll*s. Die sollen sich mal net so anstellen.

    Tom Waits is funny.

  • The day I bought the Alice album, I was playing it on my laptop. And my uncle heard Kommienezuspadt, he thought Tom was shouting "come and eat some spit!" lol

Alice is one of my cherished Waits album along with Blood Money and Rain Dogs

  • hahaha it does kinda sound like that!

  • @sweeneytoddfan93 I cherish every single Tom Waits album =)

  • Communist Douchebag!!!!just kidding I love this song!!! tom waits forever!!!

  • true tom waits is genius...

but this video is worthy of merit in itself,

i love the way the guy keeps looking at whoever is doing the video and he cant seem to make his mind up as to leave his seat or ignore the strange person sat watching him...

  • actually, most of the song is no language, or a poor imitation of German. Which, of course, in Waits' case means a terrific perfomance.

  • @badoombum

Well, it seems astho he says:

Dont come too late. You are punctual.

I think he heared a german say it and found it funny.

  • @Loupland i believe he took the german words because the germans are known to be very exact about punctuality (wether thats [still] right or not-its another question). its a song for the white hare or rabbit with the watch.

  • i love it aroud 0:27 when his voice goes really deep and gruffly its awesome

  • Ich glaube, das Lied wurde in Deutschland (Hamburg) aufgenommen.

  • schmui why not? Why is there air? Dumbass

  • I don't know why you get downvotes for a simple question ... anyways. I believe he sings in german because being on time is something considered very german. The german Pünktlichkeit is world famous. And hence the song is about never being late, he sings it in german - just my 2 cents

  • me neither.

    ..makes sense to me.

  • What a great song. I can picture one of the giant Muppet Monsters bouncing around singing this

  • his voice is rather perfect for songs sung in the rugged language of german.... :3 "come not too late", ^,^

  • Espeially swiss german :)

  • Agreed.

  • don't be late, be punctual, thats what it says ...

  • why are you staring at that guy?

  • Is the real title of the song not Kommeniezuspädt? The title says Kommienezyspadt.

  • Komme nie zu spät (sei pünktlich)

Never be late (be on time)

  • der saxophonist hats sooo drauf!

  • In Deutschland kommt man nie zu spät?

  • Du kennst die Deutsche Bahn wohl nicht :D

  • oh shit ^^ is that supposed to be german in the verse?? XD

anyway, creepy yet awesome voice and the balls to attempt singing in a foreing language.... the music buissness needs more people like him... I do feel sorry for the guy in the vid. though :-D

  • His vocals on this song are inhuman, brilliant

  • Next time try filming soup boiling...more evocative. Watch that steam!

  • Whatsamatta? Can't enjoy some nice eurorail inspired video minimalism?

  • Definitiv mit einer der besten Waits Songs, und zwar nicht nur weil es ein deutscher Titel ist xD

  • This is good train music, and not one that goes through suburbia

  • definitely good train music. i listened to this whole album on the amtrak crossing missouri and it fit so perfectly.

  • One of my favourites and one of the first Waits' track i heard. Love his laughter in this song

  • If the devil has any voice, you`ve just heard it. Maybe one day you`ll find out.

  • Thinking of the New Terry Gilliam film? (Waits was cast to play the devil)

  • I swear I had no idea, anyway, interesting information.

  • Wait, hold on a minute. Did you just shoot some old man on a train for three minutes and set it to Kommienezuspatd?

  • it would seem so

  • Yes. Yes, that's what we did. :P

  • @atthehop Only looks around late 40s early 50s to me. Not really old. You must be young, then, i'm guessing?!

  • love this one

  • man, i love this song... :)

  • Kommniezuspadt= komme nie zu spät (ger):

    never come late ;)

  • this is THE greatest song EVER

    it gives small children nightmares

    and me grooves.

    yes.

    the grooves.

  • GENIUS

  • gut gut

  • Man, I feel sorry for that guy... He keeps looking over... How evil of you.

Anyway, awesome vid, fits very well with the song, which sounds like it has the beat of an old fasioned train...

  • Aj dobar ti je stari;)

Evo skidam stvari od Tom Waitsa pa sam naisao i na tvoj spot!!!

  • Theres a lot going on the head of that man ;)

  • geiles Video....

is this the original video ? or did you mix it?

    great idea...

    Great song...

    great Tom Waits... !!!

    greetz from germany

  • I mixed it if you can call it mixing, I just filmed a funny guy in a train that reminded me of John Cleese ;) and thought the song wold go nice with it.

  • ah oke... cause of the shoes i thought it had to be tom himself ;)

    great job----

    and it fits...

    very good-....

    greetz

  • here's to john cleese

  • @glorf1234 It would be more fitting fo it to be the official music video to the song - however I don't give the bloke appreciated it much, the way he was giving you looks.

  • @glorf1234 How did he remind you of John Cleese?! He doesn't look a bit like him. o.O

  • uwielbiam :)

  • It's spelled wrong

the right spelling is "Komme nie zu spät"

    not "Kommienezuspadt"

Tom's german is not the best ^^

  • no this is right... kommienezuspadt ... its not german... theres a video up of him talkin about how it's just "sounds" he improvises it, almost scat singing :)

  • that's cool, I didn't know that ^^

  • The lyrics for this song just write "(pretend German)" for the verses.

  • pretty good !

  • śmieszne

  • And we can't be late!

  • Political debates aside, what a fucking great song. Dripping with character.

  • Your comment is quite contradictory if you take into account that before the internet was invented only a fraction of the people today had the pleasure to appreciate art, culture and humanity. So... cut the crap

  • You assume that a person listening to a great song that they don't fully appreciate will somehow take away from it? I really don't understand your logic...you mean to say that Tom Waits' work being readily accessible is going to make it something other than what it is? So what if there are fake people listening? let them, who gives a fuck? but if they're listening then that also means that people that do get it and otherwise wouldn't have had the chance to listen are listening too.

  • Fellmanb: "Past generations had a much deeper and richer relationship to art." Oh yeah? Prove it.Since you advise glorf1234 to do "Research", where is YOUR conclusive evidence to back up the statement? "they are consuming, imbibing, and excreting it like it were the most natural thing to do."...are you talking about internet or Mtv??? I suggest you stick your head out of your shell once in a while. Thank the internet for making a world of musical territory ours for the exploring.

  • if you want a dissertation, one can be provided.

  • I suggest you start your dissertation off with a short prologue distinguishing between "research" (i.e. testing a theory) and "ranting" (i.e. what you're doing).

  • I have to say I fail to agree. I think you are going about it the wrong way. Simply chanting "die internet" isnt going to make a scrap of difference.

  • Furthermore, perhaps music is treated by many as a comodity and is not given the respect it might deserve, but, I'd say thats because most music these days doesn't deserve said respect. The mass produced garbage that seems to populate the charts these days deserves, I think to be excreted like so much fecal matter...

  • Amen.

  • However, there is a great deal of very good music out there, a large proportion of which isnt given the oppertunity to be listened to by a wider, international audience, and the internet and other internet based media is the perfect way to resolve that problem.

  • Oh we can't be late

  • Komme nicht zu spät!!!

  • seid punktlich kolega! :)
