The problem is is that Harry Lewis Gates did not do anything to warrant being arrested. The law is the law and there is no law that he violated, so it could be assumed given the history of police officers and their treatment of blacks, its only reasonable to assume that it was about race especially since Gates didnt violate any laws on the books.
It still goes on everyday and Ive witnessed it first hand how cops can be over zealous with black people and not so much with everyone else. The problem is that other ethnic groups assume that blacks have always been treated as equals as they have when in reality they havent.

In the 17th century the african concept of indentured servitude was far different than that of the european in that if you were held as a slave by an african your ass was not whipped, your women were not raped, nor were you to be indiscrimanately tortured or killed.
