  • found it:D

  • is it possible to get gimp 2.7 from their website? as i dont trust all the other links..

  • Has the free select tool been changed?

    if so,how?

  • what theme is that?

  • Where Can I get This Gimp New Version 2.71 or 2.81 ?

  • @shawnlynaraja16 Look in the info menu drop down, there is a PPA there or get the source from gimp.org.

it's 2.7.x, 2.8 will be the stable release.

  • @shawnlynaraja16 Ya I saw it, and I pressed it, Then?

  • And that's pretty much what elchippe said. So don't mind me :)

  • Great overview man, now check out openshot or kino to improve the editing! just kidding LOL

  • @MaghoxFr haha, well openshot just didn't cut it for me. kdenlive is the best I've tried.

  • @GIMPMan1972 yeah, kedenlive is cool.

  • the latest ive found is 2.6.11 not 2.7.1

  • GREAT!

  • Thanks so much for sharing this! I've been wondering how the new features actually look. I am now even more impatient for 2.8! :D

  • i hope gimp will once improve to a higher level than photoshop.

  • I hope GIMP get's some commercial view. Photoshop is just too pricey

  • I knew that 2.7.1 does not remember the single window mode on startup before I tried it. In fact it doesn't remeber any window positions on windows! But it's a huge improvement over 2.6 for windows anyway!

  • well how do you install it? i don't get the link.

  • @MySecretagentman If you're using Ubuntu, then add ppa:matthaeus123/mrw-gimp-svn to your Software Sources, In the tab called "Other Software".

  • @GIMPMan1972 What theme is that for gimp?

  • @Nicro327 I think it's "Hope" GTK theme.

  • i would get it now and hope adobe doesn't sew gimp

  • @gamealogic That's not going to happen because The GIMP is no threat to Adobe Photoshop, in the commercial sense.

  • @GIMPMan1972 oh ok. well thats GOOD :D

  • @gamealogic so what ? are they to supposes to sue the developers all around the world, how they going to make that?

  • @elchippe i ment for the GUI but it dont really matter :D

  • @gamealogic How would they ever win such a lawsuit?

  • @EXetoC well you now =P

Adobe has more apps while...Gimp has just.....Gimp...

  • @gamealogic I missed your previous reply. I don't think there's any chance that they could win just because of some similarities in the GUI, but then again the laws are pretty messed up. Besides, who would they sue? All the contributors individually? :-)

  • @EXetoC im guessing the 2 guys who thought of it :L

  • Some of it looks good.. rotating brushes, window tabs, and especially Layer Groups. Can you mask an entire group, or does each layer still have to be masked manually?

But, I know I'm alone on this: I hate Single Window Interface. I first used Photoshop on a Mac, and it used a form of multiple windows. But when I used the Win95 version, it was SWI, and I couldn't stand it. I like MWI because I can minimize one or two windows and view another image as an example at the same time. Ah well..

  • Sorry for the added blank part at the end. Openshot seems to do some weirdness so I'm sticking with kdenlive.

  • Finally! Rotatable brushes. :D

  • Awesome !!!! I can't wait. GIMP 2.8 is going to rock!

  • I haven't followed the gimp development for a while, but I remember one of the largest criticisms back in the day being that it did not do real CMYK. Has that been fixed yet?

  • Lol, nice timing,they have just(on the 3rd) released gimp 2.7.1.

It should have most if not all of the features demoed here :D. Now let's just see how to install it in ubuntu. . . Nice picture btw

  • god... we had wait ages for the single window interface....but looks awesome. :)

  • I would just wait till the 2.8 version came out .It still crashes when you try to do Text. I tried it and froze everytime I tried to use it.

  • @MegaDueler You probably hit a bug. It works fine here and I'm using SVN snapshots from the repo I posted.

  • how stable is it?

  • @librano I've not had an crashes yet just doing the demo but I've not tried any full-blown artwork yet. It's buggy as expected though.

  • I've put a link to the PPA repo for Ubuntu if anyone wants to try it. Just click the info box under the video. Please remember it's unstable developer builds.

  • nice cant wait !
