I must say that I can understand why people are upset about the story to Love Never Dies. PoTO was perfect and is so important to so many people. However, if you break it down, the story to LND is good, maybe not great as of yet. It could use some polishing. The music, however is amazing, definitely on par with the original production. The orchestra and melodies and evocative and heartwrenching. That alone is reason enough to see the show, and perhaps make you fall in love with it!
I have no doubt that the music will be incredible, especially if it's anything like what I've heard. But just by reading the plot alone, it sounds beyond ridiculous to me. However, I will still give it a chance to win me over. I still think it sounds a little silly though.
People need to stop judging it and comparing it just because it's a sequel! Stop acting like immature judgemental jerks who won't give anything a chance! This play takes place TEN YEARS LATER! ARE YOU THE SAME AS YOU WERE TEN YEARS AGO???? So stop being dumb and give it a chance! If you still hate it, then that's your opinion, but don't ruin it for others who want to know more about it! So many people love it! Just because some of the critics didn't love it too doesn't mean you can't!!!!
to all you people who say phantom can't have a sequel. Well why not? the score for love never dies is more lavish and orchestrally rich then the original and love never dies should not be compared to the original this show was conceived and realised in a different time by a new production team apart from andrew. Phantom of the opera when it premiered was not thought to be a hit just give this show time to develop and grow because i tell you this show is AMAZING.
phantom of the oper and love never dies are my fav musicals in the whole world i couldnt live without them i love them out of all the musicals in the world phantom of the opera and love never dies are my fav musicals i love them i couldnt live without them because i love them

he should have just left it alone!!!!!! its just not meant to have a sequel!!! the score is amazing and that guy has a great voice but STILL phantom is just not spose to have a sequel. im deff not gonna see it, cant risk it ruining my fave musical of all time.
Im not really looking forward to the sequel because i think when Christine made her choice in the to choose Raol was the end of the phantom. One thing i do have to say is that this phantom has an amzing voice.
Can see why people disagree with a sequel, but gotta admit the new score is beautiful :D this dudes voice makes me melt inside!!! Andrew Lloyd Webber is still a genious in my eyes!!!
Seen it peeps and all you whingers and whiners are FOOLS!!!!!!!!! Its AMAZING!!!! stop being so pessimistic and sod off if you're not interested fine but keep your ridiculous comments to yourselves I loved every second of LND and will go and see it again. Ramin is just astounding you can't help but be in awe when he sings. get off your high horses and open your eyes!
why dont you all stop moaning and whining about the sequel. alw has decided to do it so just be thankful for some more fantastic work from him. he's never let us down in the past. ffs show some loyalty and hopefully the show will be as good as this song till i hear you sing is. if the rest of the show is as good everyone will be saying what a great show. so if all you pessimists could just shut yr big moaning mouths up for a few months till we know how good or bad the show is that'd be nice.
The Phantom of the Opera is just one of those things that you make one and leave it at that. He's not supposed to get the girl, he's supposed to be deformed and when he leaves the opera you use your imagenation and just think what happends to him.
Everyone's gone mad! (Seriously.) I'll admitt when I first heard about the sequel, I wanted to kill Andrew Lloyd Webber, and not give it another thought. But, hearing this Overture, you could hear the essence of The Phantom of the Opera's Overture, but with a circus sound to it (like in the Gypsy Circus scene in the movie). Plus, the song this new Phantom just sang seems to be what the old one would sing about Christine. To TheMaestroBrad, I'm sure this was a test-run which is why he looks wierd
oh, come on! Yes some things do sound the same but that's music! Same chords, same tune with some things changed! Don't be moody, at least he's trying something new and continuing something that was beautiful! Just be thankful its not another musical from a movie like most new musicals are. And be thankful that he's not doing another 'look for a star' thing on TV or eurovision song! So be quite and enjoy!
Terrible and confusing; If this is supposed to be the Phantom's new life 10 years after his affairs in Paris, why the hell is he dressed like he's in 2010? And I suppose he's magically gotten some impeccable plastic surgery?...
The score--well that's a matter all it's own. It's mindless circus music that belongs at Ringling Bros. and not the Broadway Stage. I'm a huge fan of The Phantom of the Opera, but Mr. Webber...you're kidding yourself with this one. I most definitely will not be seeing it
@TheMaestroBrad This is only a press launch. Only like a PR performance. They're not going to do a full out performance. This is meant to be more of a concert. The emphasis is the music. However, I agree that this show is not a good idea.
well,,, how about you wait untill all the music comes out to judge it people!!!! Personally I think it sounds gorgeous and has amazing sweeping melodies,,,even if they are not the most original...
People are judging this video and the plotline, nothing else.
And talk about "not the most original"...have you heard the title track? It's the same song as 'Our Kind of Love' from The Beautiful Game! Zero points -- or even minus points -- for originality.
Ugh, "Till I hear you sing has THE SAME music or notes than IF NOT FOR ME FOR HER in "The Woman in White". Pay attention and listen in the line: And sometimes at night time
I dream that you are there
But wake holding nothing
but the empty air.
It´s the same music in:
"I know that I've wronged you
And that I can't defend
I hope I haven't
That you're my one true friend".
You see? I´m TIRED to be dissapointed by Webber´s music. STOP IT, ANDREW! COMPOSE SOMETHING NEW!!!!
Lloyd Webber's recycled melodies often in the past, but I agree with you, it's starting to get ridiculous. At least when he recycled before they were melodies he hadn't already used in shows and ones which just hadn't found a home. Now he's cannibalising his past work. The title song for Love Never Dies looks like it's Our Kind of Love from the Beautiful Game. This sequel just gets worse and worse...
I agree with what you are saying, but as a matter of fact Andrew Lloyd Webber confessed at the premiere of the song Our Kind of Love, then called The Heart is slow to Learn on his Birthday Celebration DVD that the song was iniitially intended for the planned sequal to the Phantom.
I agree with you! Also the opening song (the one playing which we watch the black and white footage), there are bits that are clearly the same music as The Woman in White. Same thing can be said about Love Never Dies, I can hear the music from WIW there too.
About somebody going to die they cant, that is if the movie means anything... on christines grave it said she lived to be 56... cant be her... and at the end you see a rose with the ring she gave phantom... it wouldnt be there if phantom was dead... an as ALW produced the film...
Oh manthaz6, did you seriously think they cared about continuity in this thing? They're completely ignoring the movie, but it doesn't make any sense as a continuation to the stage show either.
It doesn't fit the novel, either. The phantom dies shortly after Christine leaves him in the book, if I'm not mistaken. It's part of the mixed tragedy... Regardless, this looks great. :)
@cthretard2 You're correct, but this is different than the original and taken from Forsyth's book. The story is excellent and just as heartbreaking as LeRoux's novel. I'm wondering how ALW's version will blend the two versions.
Well, in LeRoux's novel the phantom dies shortly after Christine and Raul leave the Opera house because she reads an epilogue for him, if I remember correctly
that's pretty messed up. . . thumbs down for good comments and thumbs up for bad comments. I myself cannot wait to see this and am actually considering taking a mini vacation to London to see its premiere
I'm skeptical of a sequel, I dont know how anything can follow the original. However hearing the music for the first time makes me more hopeful, the overture is great, and "hear you sing" is o.k., so I'm hoping it this show will be better than I first thought.

I don't know who or what the logo represents. It's creepy looking to be a death mask. The first time I saw it, I assumed it was the Christine automaton. Now, I just don't know.
The musical is NOT to be compared to the movie. The movie was made riding the coattails of the musical. And it wasn't nearly as successful for a reason. If you watched the musical first, you'd know what I mean.
And Gerard and Emmy are not professional singers. So they would never be on broadway anyway.
It's true Gerard was not a professional singer, but you've got admit he carried his weight as best he could, and certainly would have blown my mind had I known before the movie that he never had a voice lesson in his life!
I hope he plays Phantom again if they make a movie for this sequel.
How can you possibly enjoy the movie if you expect it to perform like the play? Lower your standards a bit, they had a lot to live up to. Wouldn't matter if it were Gerard or Michael Crawford.
I hope a sequel is made for the musical with Gerard, Patrick and Emmy doing the leads. But most of all I hope they follow the time line of her death as it appears on her gravestone in the first movie. Also from what I have heard, that her son is Ericks?? Give me a break please. He says in the movie, that his face has denied him the joys of the flesh.........Why do they have to do that? Why can't it be innocent and let the child be Raouls.........
@stitchgrl777 Emmy is. She's been working in the metropolitan opera since she was a child in the child program, She is a life time trained opera singer, GERARD is the one who is not professional
@stitchgrl777 I was under the impression that Emmy Rossum WAS classically trained. Gerard Butler- hell no of course not. And of course, Patrick Wilson, who began his career on Broadway.
I'm a fan of both the stageplay AND the movie. They each have their charms and I really don't see why there has to be fan wars about it.
Oh I had tears in my eyes hearing Ramin sing... so very beautiful. GREAT casting...Sierra is so beautiful as well. I simply cannot wait and wish I wasn't so far away in Australia!
Bravi, bravi, bravissimi... I love this video. But I think I have found the big secret: the mask of the new logo is Christine. That means that she won´t die. Instead of that, in a fight, she will be hurt in her face by Madame Giry, maybe with fire, acid or with a knife (There´s a hidden knife in the T of PHANTOM). So she´ll use her own mask in the end becoming herself in the real love the Phantom was looking for. That´s the big secret of the history. Period.
wow..interesting thought, really! I love this song "Till I hear you sing", but don't you think the lyrics are too easy? or something. Some people say its like a Disney song.
thats an intersting way to look at it the only part that im doubtful of is the madam giry part don't forget that in phantom giry was like a motherly figure for christine i doubt she would attack her, but the whole the mask being christines could be exactly on point
