If you are looking for a rather cheap but fast car, the Subaru is a good solution. I have smoked an S500 Mercedes once with a huge Gangster guy, and a blonde girl on the right. @akinorhan5 If the sti is stock then no chipped then possibly yes. Audi has more torque at low rpms either way because the turbo cant fully spool at low rpms. Its a 4L engine vs a 2.5L. 4l is gonna have more torque period. But once the turbo kicks in a lot of torque is gained for the 2.5.
Both awesome vehicles! I own an STi, only because I couldn't afford the Audi. I feel the STi gives more of a raw sports car experience with no room for luxury. Whereas the Audi is a more grown up GT car that is both very comfortable and very fast. The AWD systems are fairly different between Subaru and Audi in my opinion, though I'm no engineer. I prefer the mechanical LSDs in my Subaru over the electronic gizmos that Audi and most other manufacturers are starting to employ.
@uswg01 just tu clarify, AUDI has permanent all wheel drive, it is pure mechanic differential called "TORSEN" (Torque-sensing) which by the way subaru also uses in some models. There is no electronics involved, apart from ASP that helps you to better distribute the power (torque) where needed. I'm a big fan of AUDI as well as subaru. Totally agree with you when you say that both cars are awesome vehicles and yes, you are right about driving experience that subaru can offer to the driver.
@Mirrah001 - Audi's quattro system employs a Torsen center differential as well as "electronic" front and rear locking diffs. Even if you opt for the rear Sport differential ($1,100 USD Option) you are still getting an electronically controlled diff. I prefer having three mechanical diffs so when I turn all the electronic aids off I know I'm still getting the full functionality and control of the base AWD system. If I had spent another $23,000 on the Audi I might feel different, who knows?
@uswg01 You're right, subaru employs 3 torsen diffs (front - center - rear) thus provides better performance when all electronics is OFF, probably when ON as well. Unlike AUDI where you can find only center torsen diff, front and rear ones are regular open diffs (possibly with some modifications) controlled through braking system - ASP. What I like about audi is the precision and sense for detail. I lust love AUDI's interiors. Usually quattro works when you need it. (I drive A4 3.0 V6)

And in all fairness the center diff on the Subaru uses an electric clutch to distribute front/rear torque, so there's not really any way to get around having a computer make a decision here and there.

There seems to be a misconception here that the Subaru handles better than the Audi. This is completely not true. The Audi has an aggressive steering ratio, superb road feel and steering response from input, and less effort to turn in. On the highway, the Audi is definately better designed. Every family weekend, I always end up in the Audi. My Subaru is a rough car, and not necessarily better damped.
Audi is nice, but would expect more out of an S5. Of course SUBI's have the advantage : AWD, better Launch, better steering control, better braking and better suspension. You could drift the shit out in that car if u know how to do it properly.

@shizzel122 sti will accelerate faster and corner well, its a smaller and lighter car built for mods. the s5 can get up to 185mph stock and corners quite well for its weight and class. you cant really compare them

When I searched around for a sedan with AWD, leather seats, and 200+ hp... I narrowed it down to the WRX and the A4. These were actually the two most affordable.
BTW the A4 is not "twice the price" of a WRX, but only 3K more starting than the WRX limited (leather seats) If I was going to race every soccer mom at every stop light I'd get the WRX though. Plus the 60-40 rear-biased torque feels a lot more fun even if it is slower.

The Passat R36 has a bigger version of the 3.2v6 and the 3.2v6 can be found in a Skoda Superb. The A5 is effectively a two-door A4, meaning the chassis is basically a modified Golf. Nearly every VAG car has Golf underpinnings or a variation of it. The TT, A3, A4 and A5 all use essentially Golf underpinnings and the A1 is a Fabia in drag.

Audi is nice, but would expect more out of an S5. Of course SUBI's have the advantage : AWD, better Launch, better steering control, better braking and better suspension. You could drift the shit out in that car if u know how to do it properly.

@herrisa Audi and Subaru AWD systems are basically the same. I could be wrong on this but I heard Subaru uses Audi technology and design in their AWD system. Also you can't by a Subaru in its current line up that is not AWD. Don't get me wrong I love Audi and Subaru, but if you look at it from a financial aspect I would buy a Subaru 9 out of 10 times.

@NaNo7R Audis are tested on snow before they are ever sold to anyone. You watch way too much rally if you think that the subaru you buy at the dealership can do what you see on TV. Most people that live in snow filled areas will take an audi over a subaru any day of the week. PS. Auidis jump just fine. They just don't beat the piss out of you when you land.

@NaNo7R jesus christ why does everyone think you just go out and do jumps and rallying in a stock sti. The ride height on a stock sti is a bit low to do anything off road and steep hills. The stock chassis is not built for this either. And yes an s5 can drive in snow.

@shizzel122 sti will accelerate faster and corner well, its a smaller and lighter car built for mods. the s5 can get up to 185mph stock and corners quite well for its weight and class. you cant really compare them

cars-you get what you pay for. well in most cases, but with this one in particular. drive the sti for a month then the audi for a month. not a huge fan of either but almost guaranteed youd keep the audi over the subaru.

I have a Subaru and an Audi, and although the Subaru is indeed faster, the Audi is hands down the better car. Better interior, better feel, better suspension, better seats, better paint, better everything. The Subaru is just a more raw vehicle for tuning and modding.

I've drivin many cars and the best dual clutch tranny I've ever expirienced was in VW.
I've drivin a subaru impreza and I was shocked, its such an enjoyable car and I own a 08 audi s5, the tranny isn't soo sporty; the car feels like a sports car but I expected a better clutch...

When I searched around for a sedan with AWD, leather seats, and 200+ hp... I narrowed it down to the WRX and the A4. These were actually the two most affordable.
BTW the A4 is not "twice the price" of a WRX, but only 3K more starting than the WRX limited (leather seats) If I was going to race every soccer mom at every stop light I'd get the WRX though. Plus the 60-40 rear-biased torque feels a lot more fun even if it is slower.

@Splater1990 The Phaeton and Touareg use the 4.2 v8/3.2 v6 and v10 Tdi, and the Bentley Conti GT, which shares the Phaeton chassis. The Passat R36 has a bigger version of the 3.2v6 and the 3.2v6 can be found in a Skoda Superb. The A5 is effectively a two-door A4, meaning the chassis is basically a modified Golf. Nearly every VAG car has Golf underpinnings or a variation of it. The TT, A3, A4 and A5 all use essentially Golf underpinnings and the A1 is a Fabia in drag.

Audi is more elegance, comfortable and if you want you can drive sporty. ok, audi use normally front wheel drive like VW, but it's not the same feeling. Which A5 do you mean? Sportback 2/4 Doors? Dude, look at the front and the backside, a A5 is pure elegance but A4 is a real familycar. You will take impreza? You want uniqueness? buy S not A.

@Splater1990 It's true the A5 coupe is a gorgeous car apart from the odd diesel one you see with little wheels on. I appreciate the quality feel of an Audi too, they have interiors nailed. It's just that I find them a bit boring, that's all. If I had to drive a car every day I'd probably have the Audi, but I own a car for fun and that's exactly what my Impreza gives me. Besides, it would be a dull world if we all liked the same stuff...

I love a lot of cars, and I was actually going to go for an audi s4 b5, the biturbo v6, but the subaru just struck more interest to me because I think they're a bit more reliable, s4's have problems like crazy, and I think they're a bit more fun to throw around.

The only person I know, is this one guy in where I used to work who is in his mid 30's lol. He has an 05 sti as well. The STI is a grown up version of little boy racer cars.
