wait, so this is just a video of joanna newsom? not a collaboration with cocorosie bjork and cheryl? because thats what i thought this was, and was kind of excited to see that
Hey, I just posted this video because Coco and Cheryl combined create Joanna. All are great in their own respect. Cheryl is a harp player for the Sarasota Symphony.
Sometimes Joanna sounds like Bjork, and sometimes Bianca sounds like Bjork, but besides that I don't think that their music itself is all that similar; I do, however, think that they all write their music from a very similar, child-like point of view. Joanna and Cocorosie have both spoken about their deliberacy in doing this. If you care to take this a step further, Louise Bourgeois also makes work from this same perspective. It's very different, of course...but still somehow similar.
I believe it was John Lennon who said "All musicians are ripping somebody off."
I mean, even elvis who was the "original king of rock and roll" was totally ripping off old blues musicians. One of his biggest hits (Hound Dog) was a Big Momma Thornton cover. I think it would be an honor to be compared to Bjork. That's a pretty huge honor.
I'm not saying that Bjork isn't totally awesome, or Cocorosie. I like all of them, I just think that zorkiglass isn't giving Joanna Newsom enough credit for being her own person and musician (and a rather fantastic one).
This must have been one hell of a concert -- every video of every song I've seen from this has been excellent, both in terms of the performances and the overall vibe of every song. Whoever got to see this show must have been extremely lucky indeed. :)

Don't ever say that Joanna's voice sounds like a child. THAT IS BULLSHIT.
and I'm sorry, Bjork and CocoRosie along with Joanna are all different. They are only related because how fantastically odd artists they all are.

stop comparing her to Bjork, kids. she is her own unique artist, and she is magnificent.

The title is misleading. And that makes the video some what of a let down. Why not just call it joanna newsom?

IMO Joanna is much more of a prodigy than Cheryl, Cocorosie singer, or bjork. "Monkey and bear" and, especially, "emily" are evidence of that.

Okay, i've listened to this a few times:
I can indeed see bits of her vocalizations as Bjork-y/CocoRosie-ish, and the variability in melody as Bjork-y/CocoRosie-ish...it's a beautiful blend.

Great! I am glad that finally saw something in it that I have

no, dude. stop comparing them, it ruins it.

@QberryZinc09 . ..I would compare them in the realm of Great Magical Voices. <3

@loopy77 . .....Joanna newsom might pre-date CoCo RoSiE,, at least I was aware of her slightly before CoCoRoSiE.. .... <3 them all.

Apt comparisons or not, this was a beautiful, fun performance. I guess i'm off to see more...
If we're just freeballin' recc'd acts of like sound/spirit, check out Anthony singing "If It Be Your Will", you won't be disappointed.

The only connections with Cocorosie I see are the harp and the fact that Bianca (of Cocorosie) generally sings a lot like Joanna.
