  • progressive, chaotic but too random and lacking harmony.. it sounds like jazz going speed mode time to time

  • @mefaman improv man

  • that palm muted riff sounds very similar to Ron Jarzombek's tone!

  • Looks like Cynic and Animals As Leaders made some sophisticated love and had a baby!

  • Ugh. "Fucked and had a baby"

Come on guys, sophisticated music calls for sophisticated love making :P

  • whats This kind of Music called?

  • @TheGutturalized Fusion Metal, Instrumental, Progressive Metal.

  • @TheGutturalized awesome music

  • aaaaaaawww yeeeeeaaaaaah I'm melting~~

  • to me it sounds like DT fucked Living Colour and had a lovechild! and the creepy uncle of the lovechild is opeth!

  • @cfreckna Way more reminiscent of Cynic.

  • Sounds amazing. Just wish I knew what 'exivious' meant.

  • 2 peoples cant do legato a la holdsworth.

  • what this brings to mind for me:

    liquid tension experiment

    cynic

    watchtower

    holdsworth

    pastorius

...with a bit of textures/sikTh thrown in

  • This is how Cynic should keep playing, with voice also. New Cynic direction is cool, but too soft and different from Focus. This album from Exivious is like Focus Part 2, but without voice.

  • Go buy this on iTunes =D- this band made me lose my virginity

  • Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz innn my pants!!!!!!! >L

  • Men....this is similar to opeth, but what a band!!

  • @FalltoAbism Not very Opeth sounding.

  • I just preordered the album

  • I butt fucked myself and invented aids.

  • This song makes my butthole moist...

  • This makes me proud to be dutch :).

  • @Brutalyeah Same! so does Arjen Lucassen.

  • When i first heard Cynic 3 years ago, i thought it was awesome and UNIQUE. But lately i'm finding alot of bands in same genre. Seriously this direction in music is the most inspirational i can think of. All my respect to them.

Along with some to Jimi Hendrix, since he died 41 years ago today. RIP

  • so perfect, it's really my style !

  • Oh wow. Why I have I never heard of this? amazing music <3

  • higher level of music.

  • These dudes are pretty kick ass!!!

  • @Cliff2Burton Uh I'm glad cliff burton died

  • @benjaminkinkaidiris asshole...

  • @benjaminkinkaidiris He sucked pretty bad.

  • The riff at 3:13 is ridiculously amazing.

  • Just what I was looking for

  • you all should listen to zero order phase by Jeff Loomis

  • Comment removed

  • "Up Next : Bleed - Meshuggah"

Not what I expected, but hey I'm ok with this.

  • Steph FTW

  • Beautiful stuff!

  • I love that little motif he has going at 3:12. This is proof that music does not need lyrics to provide a message

  • Well it is Cynics secondary guitarist and textures' drummer

  • @DrDreamTheater He left.

  • Check out Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.

  • Jazzshuggah!

  • FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!

I can't express to the world how much I love LastFM for showing me this absolutely astounding band.

  • @sauron610 SAME HERE DOOOD!

  • Its like cynic with no direction.. not bad, but nothing close to the masters

  • this is like jazzy cynic... not so much hearin the AAL

  • i dont know if anyone here listens to jaco pastorius but the bassist has a lot the same tonal qualities as him in the slow parts, its pretty sweet

  • @ianboelts jaco was the shit!!!! such a shame he had to die so young...

  • 2 dislikes had crappy speakers & running on 56k.

  • 2 good 2 be bad !!!!

  • god this is awesome

  • this rocks! its sucks that tymon and robin left cynic but atleast theres more exivious to come

  • I fucking love the Allan Holdsworth inspiration! Fusion guitar doesn't get better than that!

  • Sad out the split in cynic. Now then, make us some moar awsomeness with exivious instead

  • Looks like Cynic and Animals as leaders fucked and had a baby!!!

  • @TheMarga628 I don't hear AAL in this at all, honestly.

  • @MikePostDrums That's too bad...........

  • @TheMarga628 Thanks for your wonderful reply. How about telling us what you think resembles AAL in this?

  • @TheMarga628 you're probably just saying that because tosin is a "jazz expert" or whatever you'd like to call him, but i hope you understand that there are completely different worlds of possibilities in jazz itself. this is more holdsworth influenced. i am not saying i don't like tosin; i love him by the way, but i do not hear one bit of AAL in this.

  • @hailmetal123 Yeah you're right....I was just saying that cause it was the first thought that came to mind....

  • @TheMarga628 more like cynic and meshuggah fucked and had a baby

  • @rohanpogi Nah not Meshuggah.

  • @Megadedly in my opinion, yeah.

  • @rohanpogi Kinda does sometimes, but I think it sounds more Textures-ish :P.

  • @rohanpogi It really doesn't matter, because it's a completely different band than Cynic, Meshuggah, Textures, and whatever other band. It might be inspired by them, but it brings different things to the table. I hear stuff that sounds like SikTh in there along with the other inspirations as well, so it really shouldn't matter whose baby it is :p

  • Reminds me Liquid Tension Experiment, but I prefer this and Textures much more

  • @cisco9x that's just what my brother said. It's like liquid tension experiment if they chilled out a whole lot.

  • Going to start listening to these guys...A lot!

  • can't believe i've never heard of these guys before

  • great metal .. rhsc nyc

  • sound like many metal slug levels

  • great song

  • It's a more jazzy Gordian Knot for me. Definately a lot better than 90% of Cynic's material.

  • @amjan i wouldn't say a lot better 'cause the stuff from focus is pretty fucking badass already. i have not heard any band combine death metal and jazz as good as cynic. i'd say this is maybe easier to listen to.

  • Seems a bit wanky imo. It's got some really cool bits, but the solos and the dream theater style prog bits just don't do it for me anymore.

  • @CorkmANns Wanky??? What?

  • This is the perfect genre of music for nighttime... zzzzzzz :3

  • nobody mentions that some members are from Textures... who are by far my favorite metal band to come out of Holland. And by far one of the leaders in the progressive metal scene... well, were. until they lost Erik... RIP Textures.

  • this is quite obviously great, and a certain feeling arises in me during, and shortly after; for i never cease to be.

  • I'm hearing more of a watchtower/spastic ink influence, then cynic, although I'm sure watchtower influenced cynic greatly

  • The great band! I`m happy like I heard Cynic, Death or Meshuggah before more than 10 years ago!

  • these solos are what holdsworth would sound like if he played more "in the pocket"

one of the best bands ive discovered recently

  • I like it.

You have me at the first note.

  • The part starting at 1.25 reminds me of Sublevels by Meshuggah

  • some of the best progressive metal ive heard in a while, sounds a bit jazzy, great stuff

  • i love this style of metal its fucking intellectual to listen to

  • wow!!!

  • have to fu,ckn check out this f!ckn awesome shi´t damn!

    dude....

  • Fuck!.wow

  • That's how heaven must sound like

  • heaven better sound like that as far as i'm concerned...

  • I love Cynic and Textures. And I'm really digging this. I need to get it ASAP.

  • =) oh yea

  • As a fan of this kind of music, I am really impressed. I loved the album since I first heard it. Probably the best album I´ve listened in 2009.

  • Just heard of this band, first song I ever listened to by them. awesome.

  • @metacarpied

    same, and agreed

  • This really hit me hard

  • oh shit! what da fuck!!

  • I just found out about Exivious. They are awsome!

  • very reminiscent of cynic and gordian knot. brilliant music right here.

  • One of the best "jazz metal" songs I've ever heard. This one is very intelligent and sometimes reminds me of Allan Holdsworth.

  • Yeh man i know what you mean, its got that very outside sound to it...The tone Tymon has on his solos is so...eargasm

  • Beautiful song.. Very well written. I can definitely hear some Holdsworth in here ;) What a skilled group of musicians.

  • Exivious>>>>>>>Scale the summit, this band is awesome, this has so much holdsworthian improv, its mind blowing in all aspects IMO

  • Progrock with Cynic-borrowed riffs at places (very softened though). Quite allright but not breakthrough or genius IMO.

  • awesome, animals as leaders is another great band somewhat liek cynic

  • Animals as Leaders is nothing like Cynic, but I can see where you're coming from.

  • kut alto

  • @wolloolloo Hahaha vieze papzak. Hij komt ook een keer op een Exivious video, hoor. :D

  • I would defiantly put Ex, Cynic, Portal, and Animals as Leaders in the same playlist.

  • This song seems like a cross between two of my favorite bands: Transatlantic and Gordian Knot. Anyone else notice that or is it just me?

  • i love this!

  • IMO they are the new Liquid Tension Experiment, amazing

  • I might have to agree

But I wish LTE was the new LTE...

  • I disagree, I can not conceive LTE without keyboards. So for me this one goes in the Scale The Summit, MCM, Hideous Demons category, as for all the stuff but keyboarding.

    IMO

  • You came off condescending (no shit Sherlock?...real sweet). And there you ago again in your reply, calling me an ass. Anyone reading our emails can decide for themselves who's being the ass. Hope your arm heals. Peace.

  • Thanks, oh brightest one in the classroom, but I already knew that. My point is how clear the Cynic influence can be heard in Exivious. Cynic was around way before these latest members joined the band or formed their separate group. Newer bands get influenced by older bands. That's usually how it works. It's not a bad thing. And forgive me if I'm pointing out the obvious.

  • I want to add this to my collection of music that I blast while I'm driving with my windows down.

  • this band owes Cynic a lot. You can really hear the influence.

  • 2 members of Cynic are in it.

  • And an awesome drummer from Textures, don't fotget that.

  • @oceannamic Uhmm, dude the guitarist and drummer are from Cynic... just lettin ya know.

  • @WesNileDavid its the guitarist and bass player( wich do cynics live performances, its still sean malone who plays on the albums tough.)

  • @BoilingHumans

malone only plays when he feels so inclined

  • @oceannamic yeeaaaa....maybe because they have members of cynic in it. but still its fuckin killer

  • @oceannamic NO FUCKING SHIT LOL, it fucking says it on the video haha

  • @oceannamic ???.........isnt this band composed of members from cynic...........so duh.

  • @oceannamic yeah i would have never guessed Cynic was a influence its not like they were part of the band, or even like the bass player of Cynic started Gordian Knot. Nothing like that at all. These three bands never knew each other nor did they play together. lol

  • I bought Exivious' self-titled debut...WTF are you doing!?! Go BUY IT!!! Shit, it's amazing!

  • Nice work, boys. Reminds me of a more metallic Ohm (feat. Chris Poland) and also Jonas Hellborg's 'Abstract Logic' with Shawn Lane and Kofi Baker (who also drums on much of the Ohm stuff).

  • i really enjoyed this

  • Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

  • I spread the words dudes! You can find EXIVIOUS stuffs on my pages : Myspace, Facebook, youtube, live spaces, etc. Exivious is so good!

  • Dahm!! You figured us out!

  • i seemed to have been addicted to this music and for a moment i was thinking how is this possible the music sucks! then i realized this could be the thought waves that are being transmitted

  • Whooo this sounds just like cynic yet not as death metal (well Exept for tracd in air that has no death metal and the guitarist from this band I do Beleive)

  • You can tell these guys were heavily influenced by Cynic (and I dig Cynic). I think they also owe thanks to Cynic for putting them on the map. I had never heard of them before Cynic gave them a big break.

  • This is beautifully This is definately Cynic's guitarist and bass Wonder who the rest of guys are Hmm, Maybe Sean, or is it Stef

  • I guess it is Stalin on the drums

  • @mikkort Stef Broks

  • @NEMISIS50 Stef is the drummer from textures. Mad cunt.

  • @NEMISIS50 Do you not have a period key on your keyboard?

  • @NEMISIS50 STEF(textures)

    and Michel from Sengaia

  • Fantastic. Any fan of cynic and textures will like this without question; so much like them, with a little twist. It'll be a great album, I have a good feeling of that.

  • Sexy!

  • Very Great Good Things Taste Like Poo

  • I'm not much of a jazz person. For the people who are going to say this isn't jazz, yeah I know that. This just sounds alot like jazz with a twist of metal.

  • the people that won't acknowledge the "jazziness" of this are the blue blood elitist/purist middle class white people that stagnate jazz with their uber squareness. i bet you anything john mclaughlin or chick corea would like this, probably holdsworth too

  • Lol, I don't know much about jazz so I have no clue who the hell your are even talking about. I have to say, anyone who doesn't admit this has a twist of jazz to it, I'd say is pretty retarded but I am a middle class white person but I don't stagnate jazz with uber squareness. Lol

  • Jazz/metal fusion is excellent. I've heard some similar projects before, but never as excellently put together as Exivious. They're great musicians with many years of experience, and though they apparently seem to _frequently_ enjoy to use the diminished sound, it fits fantastically. Dim is one of my favourite tonalities, and one of my favourite minor/b5 improv scales.

I've pre-ordered the album a few weeks ago, and I'm hyped.

J'aime ! =)

  • Sick tunes guys.

  • amazing stuff :)

  • Ugh! Can't wait for May :'(

    Exivious = FUCKIN EPIC WIN

  • Hee Tymon en Stef :) Klinkt super dit !! Ben erg benieuwd naar de rest. Greets Marcel

  • Thanks for the nice words! Do spread the word, as a small independent band we can use all the help we can get promoting our album!

    Tymon

  • Hey, this is rick from the re-formed embrionic death. Love your stuff on Cynic as well as this. Sick!! See you NYC at The Fillmore

  • Spread the word. This is great stuff! It's like Holdsworth/Ron Jarzombek/Cynic/Fredrik Thordendal's Special Defects song Missing Time ( obviously Holdsworth influenced ) rolled into one and done beautifully.

Really looking forward to more of this sound.

  • wow dit is echt zo relaxt

  • Wow

  • I absolutely love the Holdsworth influence of the guitars and backing chords! I'm studying Holdsworth (really superficially atm, due to my lack of jazz/rock fusion theoretical knowledge), and his playing is just incredible.

Fantastic! I will most definitely buy this album as soon as it comes out!
