There are actually fake cigarettes that stage actors use. They light up at the end when you inhale and form a smoke-like mixture in your mouth that you can blow out.

@RandomGal555556 there are things called filtered cicarettes that give the illusion of smoke and you do have smoke come out of your mouth, but it doesn't have the nicotine, so they are safe for non-smokers. I was on props for Glass Menagerie at my school (a whole lot of smoking in that show) and we had a guy who didn't smoke playing Tom and he said the unfiltered gave the feeling of smoking without the smoking.

our theatre group would sooooooooooooooo do this for a musical, except for one little problem: we have about 50 girls and 7 boys who do the musical, 6th-12th grade. We need to salvage whatever guys we have. =[ really stinks too i would love to do this. i would so be Medda =]

Also,I was a soprano for a minute, until I realized that pushing for those highs was not as natural as singing in a middle register ;)
