Interesting parts of GI JOE cartoon, all that high weaponry and no one ever died. Love 80's cartoon. There hasnt been a great remake after the gi joe and transformer cartoon movies

So under rated of a movie. Who else thinks that Duke was written to die in the movie, but the producers changed that since it was a made for TV movie? You can tell by the editing of the voices in the movie.

@sonnybrown Yes he was due to die. In fact Duke's death was what prompted the death of Optimus Prime in the Transformers movie. However, due to production problems the GI Joe movie was delayed so Transformers got a cinema release and the death of Prime got some very negative reactions. So the did a last minute re-write so Duke doesn't die.

The live action version of this can not hold a LICK to this movie. Why does HOLLYWOOD have to do all these DUMB remakes. I would rather watch this over the live action CRAP. Oh and this is WAY MORE violent when they get Duke with the Snake in the chest. I remember when I was a kid watching this and a lot o kids were crying over it. I think it was almost as bad when Prime died in the "REAL" Transformers movie.

This was and still is the way that G.I. Joe should be, this new movie was absolutely the opposite, I really hate the new treatment on all the characters, the only one that stays the same is Snake Eyes, the rest including COBRA I didn't like it.

@Marceloturismo2010 No, the way G.I JOE always was and should be is the way it was and still is in the comic books from Marvel, Image, Devil's Due, and IDW. Ron Friedman and Sunbow were totally unfaithful to Larry Hama's legendary storyline, and totally disrespected every aspect of Snake Eyes' storyline, from his training and rivalry with Storm Shadow, to his romance with Scarlett, to the helicopet accident that disfigured him. When cartoons learn the stick to the comics, then it will be GI JOE.

@MANOFNAR I agree, I saw this on KTVU when it aired and failed to go to the movies because of the failure of The Transformers Movie that bombed in 1987. G.I. Joe: The Movie is a bad ass, well animated production. I was knocked out by the bio technology of that secret society and really just the superb animation.  Highly recommended.

@DragoniteAus Yeah, if you look at the movie closely you can see that they meant to kill him. The dialouge "he's in a coma" was obviously implanted later. As well as the dialouge at the end of the movie that says he's out of the coma.

After it was decided Duke was getting the boot, they supposedly THEN decided to kill Prime.

Scipts aren't a lot different really. Rookie with potential gets the leader killed, then proves himself against the new bad guy at the end.
