Quran 3:33 clearly says that Adam was preferred over the rest of men like any other prophet. Adam was the first human to receive knowledge from God and not the first human or the only human. Since then, life progressed by evolution until it lead to modern day humans. So, essentially, all life, including humans, originates from clay. That's how we can reconcile the Quran and evolution.
