  • FK i can't publish a comment. why?

  • I like the sliding book support. You could use a skewer from a bicycle wheel as a quick release clamp

  • Ingenious; the clamp and adjustable width!

  • Does this have any negative effects on paperback books?

  • @qwertyoctopus I'm not sure what you mean, exactly?

  • @FPCoA Like, it doesn't bend the books out of shape does it? I'm guessing not, I just wanted to double check.

  • @qwertyoctopus Yep, that's the idea. Instead of breaking the binding on a flatbed scanner, you make this whole rig to support the book and some cameras, and you get great scans with no damage to the book.

It is a lot of work, though, and kind of requires you to become an expert on a lot of things. Join us at diybookscanner if you want to learn more!

  • @FPCoA what other programs do u use besides scan tailor? i find that scan tailor has big problems often, like crop the page the wrong way and doing it manually is annoying

  • @VanMedia Come to the forum and check out Book Scan Wizard, the new app that is designed for bulk processing. It's got a bit of a learning curve, but it will not have these problems.

  • I like it Dan!

RU still selling the handle/electronics for the DIY bookscanner? I got two a590s, and the platen is just about done; I'm using old picture frames with glass.

Also it looks like PB is kaput without the Matlab libraries which are now ?impossible? to get. My guess is you had to take down the link. Is ScanTailor the replacement for PB?

  • Pretty clever.
