If we cant drill for oil and natural gas in Alaska and anywhere else in the country let's stick an oil drill right up Robert Redford's red commie ass. Him and the rest of the environmentalist wackos spew enough gas from their mouths and asses to power America for centuries. It's time to drill NOW and if any tree hugging hippie types like this washed up "so called" actor get in the way shoot them on sight and feed their carcasses to the polar bears.
You've made not one concrete statement in your comment. It's nothig but empty ad-hominem attacks typical of people like you. Tell me how you figure drilling in our last unspoiled wilderness areas is going to help us. We all know ANWR will not amount to a drop in the bucket. If we allow drilling there, it will be a very slipery slope toward envoromnental devastation. Saying we can drill our way out of our oil addiction is like saying you can dig yourself out of an ocean.
@falcoperegrinus82 This is unbridled Leftwing environmental BS. It is the environmentalists who require offshore drilling miles out in the ocean instead of safe, economical, and yes ecological oil extraction on dry land. What would turn your head around is to actually visit ANWR, and you would get off your high horse. It is easily the most desolate place on the planet, good for nothing BUT oil extraction. And it would be ecologically sound--but the eggheads can't tolerate this.
Protect America the Beautiful! Does Palin the Impaler care about wildlife? No! Palin cares only for oil and big business and her own ambitions which are wrapped up in them. Do we want more of the same? No, it's time to change. Dare to Care! Vote Obama!
Maybe it looks like flat and empty but every part of the land is crucial to the ecosystem. maybe our oceans appear to be just big puddles of water, yet they are the origins of all life.
I'm in ANWR nearly every day, and I go through Prudhoe Bay/Deadhorse every day, and unless you know where to look you have a hard time spotting the oil fields at Prudhoe, while the area in question to drill in ANWR is a flat nothingness. Don't let these images from parts of ANWR closer to the Brookes Range confound your mind. It's like posting a picture of Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas and calling it Rome.
I am a total ass for bringing up facts and telling the truth as it really is?
How can a democrat (Clinton) releasing a mere 30 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum reserves bring down the price of oil,yet Republicans wanting to drill and getting billions of Barrels do nothing?
are you incapable of making a commment with any resemblence of an intelligence based on facts and common sense?
Your comment contained nothing but insults and profanity.. typical liberal!
The case stated here is is not a "liberal agenda," it is a factual presentation, based upon figures derived not by liberals, but by the Department of Energy.
There are additional factors, based upon the way that oil drilled on American soil is distributed in a global market structure. Just because it is drilled here doesn't mean that it is sold here.
And even that portion which is sold here does not influence price; not enough.
they already proved that drilling oil their will not do any harm... Why dont just quit driving cars alltogether for crying out loud--we would have less road kill--those poor animals.
How the hell do these ignorant morons say that retrieving billions of Barrels of oil from Alaska and off shore wont do a damn thing to the cost of oil or gas, yet are the same ones who brag about Clinton releasing a mere 30 million barrels from the Strategic Reserves and how it made heating oil prices drop and want a few million barrels released from the SPR today saying it will help.
How does 30 million barrels make prices drop, but up to 110 billion barrels wont do a damn thing?
But it is exactly right! Nancy Pelosi and other liberals point out that Clinton released 30 million barrels from the SPR and call for Bush to release a few million barrels saying it will reduce the cost of oil/gas, but then they will say that getting 13-25 billion from ANWR will do nothing, let alone 100+ billion with oil from other areas of the U.S. and off shore..it makes absolutely zero sense!
I find they are usually very ignorant and will tell lies to get their view/agenda across and seem to only believe in freedom of speech when it supports their views! they get very angry, very fast when they are confronted with opposing views and quickly revert to name calling, profanities, destruction of property and even violence.

Piercedavid: Open that bottled brain and look out the window the next time you are travelling, for on American soil we see America herself in all her glory. I do question as did Whitman "does she have a corner in her own house." The Artic is not only America's corner, but it is the corner of the world. This wildlife sanctuary is the foundation of our existence. Perhaps dear piercedavid you should read "Demociatic Vistas" by Walt Whitman and be humbled, be proud that you are an American.
Marchar22: Ok, first off, This wildlife sanctuary is NOT the foundation of our (American) existence, democracy and capitalism are the foundation of our existence. I love America, and I have chosen to put economic stability (as minor a difference as it may be) ahead of animal rights (and the minor effects drilling would have on a species). I do not base my political views on transcendentalists, who define "glory" as nature's beauty, i base them on the best course of action for our country.
Its obvious you have an abundance of clean air to breathe(you're able to respond to my comment so effortlessly). We have protected areas such as the Artic from capitalistic minded individuals like yourself who are so vehemently narrow minded.I presume that you're opposed to alternative fuels and recreationally hunt baby seals.America encompasses the land as well as the people and BOTH must coexist. The artic tundra is the last of its kind in the world so I suggest you vacation there this summer.
I am not opposed to alternative fuels, alternative fuels potentially mean ridding us of our dependence of the middle east. I am no hunter, I do not think killing animals for fun is by any means a noble thing, but I do not value the lives of a few animals above an American source of oil.
You say that just because you don't know how much you depend on lives of these animals. Some info for a start: assets. panda. org/custom/flash/daversitycode/
What about pouring more money into developing and improving alternative energy rather than just going for alternative fuel? That would mean we would all be independent and the UK would be free of Russia, mid-east and U.S.A.
piercedavid: At least you make a coherent argument for the position you've chosen; that fact alone merits respect.
Any attempt to convince you to reconsider your principles would prove a wasted effort, so I won't try. But I can point out that there are sound reasons to disagree with you.
You may not base your own political views on "transcendentalist" philosophy; still, America has defined herself, historically, as much by our relation to wilderness as anything else.
Liberals are such hypocrites. They claim day in and day out that the war in Iraq is based entirely on oil. Yet, they whine and bitch about drilling oil right in our own country. Doesn't anyone else have a problem with this? Think about what is more important: a pretty refuge and some oh so adorable animals, or a secure source of oil that we don't buy from the people trying to bring down western society.
As an Alaskan who has visited and enjoyed this beautiful place, I implore everyone to double your efforts to save it. Call your legislators everyday and bombard their email inboxes... it's an issue they're going to try to squeeze through before the Nov. elections. Let's make sure they don't! Thank you from the last frontier.
PLEASE dont drill the refuge. ~ there is a tribe of indigenous people called the G'wichin tribe that lives there and depends upon the healthy herds of caribou for food and much warmth.~ Not only would drilling be a genocide of the land and ecosystems, but a whole culture and tribe of people will be affected too.
It's great to see the positive comments here, especially about using YouTube. Stay tuned -- in the coming months you'll see NRDC doing this kind of thing much more often.
I think this video was something that really needed to be made; it's difficult for many of us to understand what's being done to places like this without a visual aid like this one. Let's continue working in hopes that the Arctic Refuge can be saved.
Haha! There are not any sheep in ANWR! HAHAHHA! There are no mountains! This video is all bullshit. If you believe this propoganda you are following a fantasy. Complete load of crap. Get on Alaska Airlines, fly over, (burn some hydrocarbons) and look for yourself. ANWR is flat tundra.

piercedavid: At least you make a coherent argument for the position you've chosen; that fact alone merits respect.
Its in our blood to care.

Hey Bob
Stick to the movies about guys cornholing some poor old horse, And leave the real drilling to us!!!

Great video!
It's so sad to see how the official ANWR internet resource became biased towards oil development instead of speaking about its nature's beauty.

Thanks for helping to 'spread the word'

PLEASE dont drill the refuge. ~ there is a tribe of indigenous people called the G'wichin tribe that lives there and depends upon the healthy herds of caribou for food and much warmth.~ Not only would drilling be a genocide of the land and ecosystems, but a whole culture and tribe of people will be affected too.

After almost seven years of being an NRDC member, I'm so glad that they're starting to use sites like this to reach my generation.

OK, Rob, but if you want to come and sit down and tell me more about ANWR, your always welcome to.
The answer to our energy problems isn't in the past or the ground, it's in the future and the sky.
Let's do this, y'all.

we must stop big oil. how many animals will have to die before we learn that oil is NOT the energy source of the future?
