  • I like the fact that both the thief and the cobbler do not speak during the original movie. Having to listen to all of this talking makes me think that I'm going to grow tired of watching this version fast.

  • @IJustCanOK I loved his deeper voice, it's supposed to be a shock, even for him.. :)

  • @IJustCanOK I think having Sean Connery (yes, that was THE Sean Connery) say those three lines was meant to be out-of-place for his character, like a joke.

  • But Princess Yum Yum was so badass, what's with all this whining about not doing things? I watched the recobbled cut first and I just assumed she always did cool stuff.

  • @359339 I think her whole "I am more than this" thing was only included for the sole purpose of the people who took this from Richard White trying to explain why Yum Yum goes into the desert instead of his guards in the first place (the Recobbled Cut admittedly retains some of the footage from the Miramax cuts).

  • @359339 It is ironic that the Yum Yum from the '60s was more liberated than the '90s Yum Yum. ;)

  • wow look at the theif checkin out those balls

  • 3:14 dame grandma you've got the juice now LOL.

  • I like the thief talking but the lack of animation is truly disgusting. I prefer the recobbled cut found by ThiefArchive.

  • Nice to see the Thief has taken up ventriloquism. 9_9

Seriously, I like Jonathan Winters, but what the heck is this garbage?

  • harsh for Bobbi page, they left her singing and dubbed her voice!!!! And Jenifer Beals sounds awwwwful

  • spinning and... more spinning.. xD i can't watch this without thinking of the nostalgia critic

  • This is the one you watch purely for A: The nostalgia, and B: The Thief's inner monologue, no matter how cheesy it might be!

  • I watched this when I was a kid. I LOVED it.

But I watch it now mindful of the story behind its production.

  • I honesty like the Cobbler being mute more than this, but the narration is still nice.

I think like this version too, in addition to the Recobbled Cut... except for the singing. That kind of scarred me. But the rest is so cute!

  • I like this version too, in addition to the Recobbled Cut... except for the Cobbler talking and the singing. That kind of scarred me. But the rest is so cute!

  • The removal of the original narration at the very beginning makes me sad - it was spiritual and full of meaning. The original material was dumbed down aggressively to make this version.

  • I already watched the recobbled cut. I 've seen parts of this version in the Nostalgia Critic's review of it and I just watched the first few minutes of this version. Those first few minutes were all I could bear

  • I like this narration a LOT better than the one in The Princess and the Cobbler. The recobbled version is obviously much better, but I LOVED this version as a kid. I thought the Theif's monologue was hilarious when I was like, 6.

  • I can't understand why they added those songs. I wonder how many children wished about songs in animated films to be over with.

  • :( Is there an original version somewhere?

  • @purtymusic The Recobbled Cut is closest to the original version.

  • My God how much did they want to copy princess Jasmine in this version? Even the fountain and the part with the birds flying off. All she's missing is a tiger. And they animated her to look like a cocktail stick with boobs :S The second it gets onto the original animation with the roses, you can really tell.

  • In the immortal words of Satan: "WHAT THE FWUCK IS DIS SHIT!?"

  • @liensriilovely

There are indeed three versions. There are many differences between The Princess and the Cobbler and Arabian Knight. In The Princess and the Cobbler, less scenes were cut, Tack has a different voice actor, there's a different narrator, the thief doesn't talk, and less dialogue was added.

  • Rotten Tomatoes gave this a 40% on the T-meter, that's too good for this movie.

  • This is the version I grew up watching, and I loved it. But now after finding out the truth about it, and watching the Uncobbled Cut, I have to agree that it is much better. I like that Tack is mute in the real version as well. :D

  • 1:07 Paging Bruce Campell... Paging Bruce Campell...

  • "Oh no, pop fans won't like this weird Radiohead album. Piss those guys off let's get Britney Spears to finish it everyone loves Britney Spears."

  • Seriously low move by the producers. Would you kick Stanley Kubrick off 2001: Space Odyssey and hand it over to Michael Bay to finish it? Both guys were/are successful with totally different styles of movie making. Williams spent 30 years of his life and millions of his own money on this film. How could you be so horrible to a person?

  • you know, this was the version I remember from my childhood and I dont think its that bad

  • @EmeraldButterfly241 I agree.

  • I could assume this print came from the Japanese DVD, am I right?

  • Having seen every version. I gotta say, this one really wasn't all that bad.

I don't think there was a version that displeased me.

  • @X23SSaviourGundam

I agree with you completely. All three versions are good in their own way.

  • Comment removed

  • I found this version at my library's store the other day. It's nice to have, though I really wish it was the Recobbled Cut. ;)

  • what's funny is is that i remember in maybe the 3rd grade, i saw a movie called the thief and the cobbler (this is i already know is the thief and the cobbler) and it had matthew broderick's voice and the thief could talk. what is the original version then?

  • @MeTaLdUdE02 The Recobbled Cut on YT is the closest to the original version.

  • @NeverDoubt1 i guess i would say that i like the arabian knight version, but they kinda screwed up the storyline in it. the recobbled one(saw it recently) the storyline looks like it's been kept the same and had more serious tones to it instead of this version.

  • I liked the sound effects used in this version. They made me laugh. I liked the Allied Filmmakers' version of Thief and the Cobbler the best (Titled 'Princess and the Cobbler'). I don't like the Re-cobbled Cut (I'm not into mute characters, except for the thief, but he's funny).

  • If the 43 people who disliked this did it because they liked the original movie, and Tack as well, better, they have every reason to, because it WAS better. Without a doubt it was better. Especially because of that DAMN THIEF. HE'S ANNOYING AS HELL IN THIS VERSION. I JUST WANT HIM TO SHUT THE HELL UP. -_- And Matthew Broderick certainly doesn't help. Uch I hate him. He's not TERRIBLE, he's just plain bad. In my opinion.

  • Why don't they make movies like this anymore?

  • 43 people are on the mute original's side

  • i personally think its better than the origanal. personally

  • Dose anyone find it creepy that the thief, Yum Yum, and maybe Tack are the only characters with EARS?!

  • this is so strange. i saw this a long time ago which was the same cut but it was titled the thief and the cobbler. i had no idea they changed the name, though... it's so strange to see the original versus this

  • "Oh its not his masterpiece, or its an atrocity" you guys are a bunch of pretentious pricks! its a kids movie, get over yourselves!

  • @LIBnTYR Um no, it wasn't designed to be a kid's movie. That was when they tampered with it.

  • @LIBnTYR ikr i like this one better

  • "Oh yeah, I'm sick of this, It makes me want to puke like Nostalgia critic said so!"

I like Nostalgia critic critics (lol) because they make me laugh, are very well worked and see things in the movies I couldn't, but it do not mean I agree with EVRYTHING, because beside it, I still have my own opinion.

The original is indeed a masterpiece(I watched it first), but I'm tired of the useless whining, so be useful and go make a petition for the full restoration of the original movie instead. |8

  • @ApfelCandy I assure you, even without the Nostalgia Critic, I wouldn't love this version. ;)

  • Miramax loves this while 41 of us believe it's stupid.

  • I do love the recobbled a lot more...But I still adore the thief's voice (Even if it was a bad match)

  • I like both versions. Theyre two completely different movies though.

  • I really like the music at the beginning...just take Matthew Broderick's annoying narration away PLEASE.

  • I take my statement back. I like all 3 versions =\

but when i checked this version out at the library it titled the Thief and the Cobbler :O

Actually... In my opinion.. if they just kept the voices(like Tack's narration to the original version and actually finished it) I would like that. very much

  • this is an abomination worthy of the credits of miramax blergh

  • XD they have these people whipping at the crowd then people behind then yelling have no fear XD that makes no sense

  • This movie is amazing I wish I had it on DVD. I should have put princess yum yum on the sexy list.

  • When I got this from the library, my sister Mara watched it with me, and then the second time, we watched it with Mom and Dad and when Dad asked if we were watching 'the movie with geometric shapes,' I said yes.

  • did anyone notice the plume thing dissapeared

  • "But where would destiny find someone so courageous and pure of heart?"

This line already makes me sick. It's trying to portray Tack as a Mary Sue (the Purity Sue subtype).

  • @LaukkuTheGreit Yeah seriously, and besides the Recobbled Cut basically shows the same thing without having to spell it out.

  • I love this version :( I don't know why everyone else hates it. It's the vhs version i've had since I was little bitty. It's not that bad :(

  • @luvdontthinkso11 Maybe the reason is, that you grew up with this (worse) Version, so you only see the film in a subjective way.

  • @TheFreakyChannel Well "worse" or not I think some people may be overreacting. The older version still exists lol it's not like they threw it away where only this version can be witnessed now lol It's not like the existence of this version is so disgusting. It can be cute and funny. I understand it's other peoples opinions, and they have the right to feel how they feel. I just believe people are being a tad harsh. Just laugh at it if you think it's stupid.

  • @luvdontthinkso11 The old version only exists because a fan decided to do the Redcobbled Cut. Not because it's available on DVD or anything. So it's not that simple.

  • Finally found my kid version. Wooo didn't know there were so many different kinds.

  • would you guys be mad at me if I said I like both this version and the recobbled version

  • @Supershadow142 Lol, no I have no problem with liking both. This version manages to have a few charming points despite the negative ones. ;)

  • lol simba narrates at the beginning

  • I liked it better in the other version, when the thief didn't talk.

  • Can't decide which version of all these I should see. xS This one or the thief and the cobbler? or the recobbled version? or the workpart thing?

  • This is my favourite version of the movie. Why? Because it's so hilariously bad that it's good.

  • what

    the fucking

    fuck.

    |:

I love me some matt broderick as much as the next kid, but oh good god what have they DONE.

    WHAT HAVE THEY DONE.

  • I loved Matthew Broderick and Jonathan Winters, but Princess Yum-Yum sometimes bugs me, she's like everything I love about Princess Jasmine, except the OPPOSITE. There was seriously no purpose for Yum-Yum's song to me.

  • the Fred Calvert animation looks like it's from a second rate HBO family special!

  • ..... Taking the what now? They talk like friggen little girls! Can't you make Zigzag's little posse a bit MANLYER? >_> I guess not. But seriously though, what the hell are they saying when Tak gets taken away??

  • "a man of few words, but many thoughts".

God... how could they do this to RIchar Williams? Its unforgivable.

  • Holy Christ my brother and I used to LOVE this movie!

  • i do love the witch in the movie way better in the original though lol!

  • This confuses me because i only first saw this version and the movie was still called The Thief and the Cobbler. Anyways i really like the original, everything about it, but i'm sorry to have to say i like this version better because the voice of the theif. He is mostly the comedy in this movie, without voice for the theif it was a bit boring, but made me focus more on the art. Though this version is my favorite, i respect, appreciate, love and think wonderous of both versions! Lots of love <3

  • @mandieMayhem1 The thief is a lot more comedic withOUT the voice. It's like in the old roadrunner cartoons. Neither character talked, the animation told the story. The thief's voice in this version just gets in the way and is irritating.

  • @ZillaRocks noooo the theif is 100x more hilarious when he thinks things -LoL " nobody lives like this except college kids" 4:05 rofl :p

  • @mandieMayhem1 To each their own, but I found the thief hilarious even without a voice. ;)

  • I stopped when it came to the first song. I CAN'T STAND IT.

  • MATTHEW BRODERICK???????????????

I thought he was bad in "Godzilla!"

  • I have to say I respect both opinions of both the lovers of the original masterpiece and those who enjoy this. I grew up with this and only watched for the wit of thief and the pure love between Tak and YumYum. It was because of this version that I took interest into the original and from their on truly appreciated William's work of genius. Like discovering a shiny rock then finding it descended from a hidden cave of pure diamond wonders.

  • @mikeydp416 I understand you're opinion but to me I felt that the Theif had a perfectly fine and noticeable personality without a voice. Also I didn't really feel that the voice fit him, to me it seemed to take away from his character instead of adding to it. But that's just how I feel, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

  • @mikeydp416 You're entitled to your opinion, but I thought the thief without the voice also had great personality. :)

  • What the hell?! This is my first time seeing this version...I feel offended by its very existence. It's worse than the one I grew up with (I admit I like the latter better than this).

  • I don't like how they gave the theif and Tak voices. The original was so much better and much more enjoyable. This version just annoyed me and made me wonder why it is that we have to destroy something that was originally perfect.

  • Ummm so he just reached into his grill...and he laughed..this is strange indeed

  • Just saw The Theif and the Cobbler last night......why is the thief talking? Why is Tak talking? Why is Yumyum singing? I'm done with this movie, good day to you all.

  • Say what you want about the Miramax version, but honestly this is the best version to me. I grew up LOVING this version and it appeals directly towards children. I adore it and always will. It's humorous and adorable ^_^

  • Richard William's film was intended to be a piece of art; a film that would appeal to a much different crowd than any Disney film would draw. He was attempting to redefine the animation genre in a bold new way, and THIS is how his efforts are rewarded...this is just a disgrace. I just can't get over what a shame it is to see what happened to Richard William's would-have-been Opus. *sighs* Miramax, I really hope your pleased with yourselves.

  • 5:44 - Hot. XD

  • what the F?

  • Oh, lord in heaven... I watched the Recobbled Cut last night and decided to see what the other versions looked like in comparison. I can't even make it past part 1. What a slaughter!

  • Why the hell do I hear a microphone saying, "Zigzag is here" and this is the second time I'm watching the crappy version of this.

  • @WonderweissCupcakes Well I think most people are used to animation with music, sound effects and voice overs. Yet many still enjoy the original version. ;)

  • agree....the thief and the cobbler-recobbled cut is a master piece...I love Sean connery piece...I just get melt with that voice!

  • Honestly, I've never watched the "original" version of this movie. I rented this version from a DVD store when I was little and I actually really like this version. I tried watching the "original" and I found myself bored to death with just music and animation with no voice over...but then again that's just me...and I practically grew up on cartoons with sound AND voice-overs--not just animation and music.

  • @WonderweissCupcakes It's really all in taste. Not many people will be won over by a film that's mostly silent

  • MY GOD. this is like smearing vomit on the Mona Lisa..

  • @mtcc21 i realize that it was never fully finished, but where can i watch the best version of this? one thats closest to what Williams originaly intended? i saw something titled a "recobbled" version here on youtube, is that decent do you know?

  • @ShortCircuit11 oh yeah, definitely watch the recobbled cut. its the best version of this film out there, its basically the original animation mixed with some unfinished stuff to make it as close as possible to WIlliam's original intent...it also doesnt have the silly voiceovers or songs. i think that the characters are already expressive enough and dont need voiceovers, its a little long but definitely worth it.

    :)

  • @kanoomoo sweet, thanks so much :)

  • How many versions of this movie are there???

  • @TLRhorst Why is better to have more dialogue than silence though? Not be rude, just saying.

  • @NeverDoubt1 For me I like the dialogue better than silence because with just the music playing and the things going on, my attention started to wander awa from the movie, especially when the battle machine was being destroyed. I hope that clarifies that somewhat. I do love the part in the original when the theif uses the golden backscratcher hands to be chopped off instead of his own. I wish that was in this version.

  • @TLRhorst I admit I had to try harder to pay attention in the Recobbled Cut. But it was worth it and I'm glad I did give it a chance. It's a cliche but silence can often speak volumes, much more than dialogue. ;)

But yeah that hand chopping scene was very funny, lol.

  • @NeverDoubt1 Yeah, I am glad I saw how it was orginially intended to be. Wether it's the original or this version, the story and artwork is amazing and one of a kind. :)

  • @NeverDoubt1 yeah It was worth watching it to see how it was originally thought to be, and silence can certainly say more than words, but with this I really enjoy the theif's inner dialogue XD

  • My god, All the cartoon sound effects they added in this version are just awful DX

  • what is with Arabian princesses feeling all repressed and craving adventure? lol :P

  • It was one thing to have Tack talk....BUT THE THIEF TOO?! WTF?! I would LOVE the recobbled cut IF it was the voices from The Princess and the Cobbler....because Sean Connery? Fuckin' really?

  • @AnnAtomicSuicide my mouth dropped open when i heard that voice. i was like, DAMN that is deep. there's a print version on youtube that uses a much softer voice, and i love it so much.

    sean connery is awesome though.

  • @TheLastHylianTitan I think you're supposed to be shocked, that's the point, I loved that, lol.

  • I understand that it wasn't supposed to be a kids movie, but that's when I saw it, and it was this version. I've watched it countless times, and I'm very attached to it. As such, I still love it, and the thief's inner commentary always makes me giggle. It's the version of the film I really adore. Don't get me wrong- the original is beyond words, but this will always have a special place in my heart.

  • What happened to the cool music of the parade?? I loved that silly music!

  • @ilovecloudythegiant I thought both had comedic elements and the original held my attention just fine. But to each their own. ;)

  • Ok so what's this movie called? Arabian Knight? What about the Thief and the Cobbler? Or is it The Princess and the Cobbler? which one?

  • ok they went with bals? i can live with yum yum and one eye but really they couldnt have said sphers or orbs they went with balls???

  • 85 people who liked this are probably annoying hipsters

  • isn't this Simba's voice?!?!

  • 3:15 Never underestimate an old lady.

  • That old Nanny has been watchin too much WWF Smackdown! hahah :)

  • I wish I could do that with my feet....

  • Yayy I finally found the real version!!! The thief never speaks aloud and Tak is the narrator. I dont know what the other versions were but this is the best one! Why is it called Arabian Night though?

Also I didnt know that Simba is the voice of Tak!! :]

  • @RoseyRed088 Gotta agree with you.... I grew up with this version, so the other one, although good, just doesn't sit as well with me.

  • @RoseyRed088 No. This is not the "real" version. Go do some research.

The Recobbled Cut is MUCH closer to what is the real version.

  • I saw a version similar to this (with the narration and music) only it was not titled "Arabian Knight" but kept the original title "The Thief and the Cobbler". Which version did I see?

  • no one lives like this except college kids. Good thing I just graduated or I will be offended.

  • DE THEIF TALKS?? lol good quality though

  • I wouldn't be surprised if Matt. Broderick or Jon. Winters didn't even GIVE a damn about Rich. Williams. I also wouldn't be surprised if whoever is responsible for this was on drugs or something.

  • ohh....why dont you shove the word enchanted right up your arse, Miramax...

  • this is the widescreen japanese dvd right?

i wonder where i can download it on torrent....

  • "hes never seen the golden balls" i never saw this movie, but couldnt they just say orbs or something else besides balls???? >.<

  • whats wrong with the people? did someone nuc them or something and only the princess was spared? wth?

  • @xantheyellow Maybe they're from the same universe as Nickelodeon's Doug. ;)

  • @NeverDoubt1 lol, maybe :)

  • The worst part about this is that Matthew Broderick gives away EVERYTHING through exposition.

  • @bTOMboy3 Reasons for liking the original version more? It has better music and voice acting. It has better storytelling due to its "show don't tell" approach, and half of the scenes are not missing. It has no pointless songs. The tone is completely different, more mature, unlike this farce for kids.

But most importantly, it was intented to be completely unlike Disney films. Animation has suffered from being seen as children's entertainment, and Richard Williams hoped he could change that.

  • Why are people liking this butchered version? I WANT TO SEE MORE DISLIKES, PEOPLE.

And how does the thief know about college?!

  • I know I've commented on this movie plenty of times but I wanna say at least one more thing. Sorry if this sounds like nerdy nit picking but I absoluty HATE how they renamed The Golden City Baghdad. In the Recobbled Cut, The Golden City was just it's own world. Calling it Baghdad would be like calling Middle Earth Camolot or something.

  • i cant remember which one i saw first but i think its kind od cool that i can recongize Simbas voice

  • not even the nanny have words for how AWFUL that song was

  • "Just like your mother, out here without a veil."

Kind of a creepy line considering recent world events...

  • @bTOMboy3 The original is in fact very humorous and enjoyable, just in a different way. Have you watched it?

  • Remembered watching a trailer for this when I was young. Saw the nostalgia critique's show, watched the Recobbled version instead. This is pretty bad compared to it.

This is like what 4kids did for Naruto and One Piece, over edited.

  • @InvaderHog theres no problem with the original version.

first, it's was not supposed to be a kid's movie,

and second, it was intended for teenagers to adults.

the original version was supposed to be ''art'' not just a Disney-like-with-bland-songs-for-kids movie.

  • @InvaderHog Children may not always understand everything right away, but that doesn't mean they don't enjoy more grown up films. They make their own unique interpretations and then later in life become aware of the full message.

  • I watched the recobbled cut and it was absolutley brilliant. Granted I saw this first but I can't completely understand why people would want a finished version of what Richard Williams tried to make over three decades ago. Hopefully the companies that own the numerous version of the film will let someone whose more true to what the film can and should of been work on it in the future and rerelease it. This film is a forgotten classic that needs to be remembered

  • i grew up to this movie i love this version

  • @MrTFlowable same here. This must be a tamer version of the original, I'd say.

  • ITS SIMBA!!

  • ok, i don't know what you think, but i like every version of this movie: the reccobled cut mostly, but i still like them all! Tack is just so epic that is imposible to hate him, even with kinda annoying dialogues and songs with lazy lyrics!

  • nostalgia critic ... thank you

  • could you upload the sundtrack of this film?

  • After i saw the Recobbled Cut, it was Richard Wiliams' meant to be 2001 Space Odyssey, just a grand masterpiece that at least exists in the form he wanted it to be.

After i saw the Princess and the Cobbler, i saw why the songs and characters were bland and annoying, but at least their singing/voice-over voices matched. It wasn't good, but not terrible.

After seeing just the first part of Arabian Knight, i was left with one question:

WHY WAS THIS NOT SENT BACK TO THE FIRES OF HELL?!?!?

  • I recently ordered this on Laser Disc from a site called Da Don's Laserdiscs, after seeing the VHS version I had checked out at the librar (which was pan & scan), while the LD was in widescreen

  • Okay I had just finished the Thief*sp?* and the Cobbler verison of this movie and liked it a lot but wanted to see the verison I grew up with I'm not even half way done with the first part of it and I already think that it sucks. I deeply shame myself for liking this hashed together remake the orginal is by far the best. On a side note...Tack is still flipping adorable <3

  • Simba's narrating this!

  • nostalgia critic is right

    god this is bland
