My buddy and I have performed this as you can see on my profile, where I brain-farted on some of the lyrics. But there's nothing like the original. This is such a great recording and, after 35 years, I never get tired of it. I also love Bob Welch's octave style of guitar playing on this and it reminds me of another great guitarist, Wes Montgomery. God rest Wes's soul.
This is one of my all time fav FleetMac songs - and thank you Fleetwood for this song. It's not a dream, by the way. There are aliens visiting this planet to this day. And, does anyone wonder why the Treasury will not reveal where the %% is going - it's going to the aliens. They have hijacked our economic situation, laughing at it anyway.
It seems Fleetwood Mac never really had a static line up. I alwaysthought of them in their 1975+ lineup since thats all I can ever remember hearing growing up -born 1972-. The guy who sang this is a much better vocalist than either of the guys 1975 on. Like a mix of Jim Morrison and and Gordon Sumner - even though Sumner was only 22 when this came out lol. Great post.
My parents got this album when I was still in my crib and played it so much it was one of the first songs I remember.Ah,but to be young again.....Great stuff!!
Bob Welch has such a haunting voice. Check out "Ghost of Flight 401" from his "Three Hearts" record of 1979. There is so much Mac I have yet to discover. Shame on me.
Fleetwood Mac as I knew them!...(but did I have this in an 8 trac!)...Hello World..Did You Like 'Close Encounters of The 3rd Kind!..yes I like Steven Speilburg..TransVoiYeurTek!
Come on ritchietwotwo, "kinda cool"? This is real Fleetwood Mac. Most people dont even know about Peter Green or Bob Welch. I think Lindey Buckingham is an awesome guitarist and really brought FM to the forefront but this stuff is wonderful. I still have the LP in good condition.
I've just got into pre-Lindsey/Stevie Fleetwood Mac recently. My goodness, these guys were awesome. Ms. McVie's voice sounds perfect in this song as well.
I could listen to this song a million times and never get tired of it. Geez, they just don't make awesome music and songs like this any longer. This is a such a classic. I remember listening to this on some underground stations in Boston when I was a
kid. Great memories. And someone else said it, but it bears repeating, but you can't even tell what year it came out, it doesn't sound "dated" at all. Hard to believe it's 35 years old. Classic Fleetwood Mac.
I remember reading this song was written in response to the North Carolina UFO sightings back in the early 70'. Love the song since I first heard it way back in 1973 driving cross country out to Colorado.
Hey RoadNasty. I live in NC and I had always heard that at some point Bob worked with a guy from Winston-Salem who told him about riding bikes or motorcycles out to a sort of pond that had steep sides that looked like glass. Might have been a meteor crash site. There were no roads or tracks leading to it, just out in the middle of nowhere, looked like no one had been there in forever. Anyway he felt weird there and as they say in the south 'he high tailed it outta there'.
Absolutely, Bob Welch never DID get the recognition that he so deserved. This is a great classic and he has many more--a lot of people don't know that Fleetwood Mac had a lot of talent before Lindsay and Stevie came along, although not to take anything away from Lindsay, one of the greatest guitarists in history. I have been a fan since the Peter Green days, and still love their music, but Bob Welch was a huge contribution.
I totally agree with you. Bob Welch was is so talented and made such an enormous contribution. This is an incredible song. Still love it after all these years.
You can download this song through Limewire as well, I had no problem finding it. A terrific song whether you're relaxing on your couch or driving down a highway with the window rolled down.
I have this album. Still one of the best albums I ever heard. It stands on it's own. Pre Lindsay and Stevie. This album showed that this group was talented at every spot.
The peak (or pinnacle) of the Bob Welch-led era of Fleetwood Mac. Thanks to his entrance (starting with "Future Games" in '71) as a replacement to Peter Green, the group took itself more forcefully into a California Pop sound that would later dominate with Stevie Nicks & Lindsay Buckingham. At this moment though, the band was full of energy and talent. Mick's drumming impeccable. Bob's guitar work&vocals haunting but strong. Christine excellent harmony. Clever video; images match the song. Thx!
EXTRA: "Hypnotized" did achieve some modest radio play. In case anyone was interested, Bob Welch had 5 albums with Fleetwood Mac:
-Future Games
-Bare Trees
-Penguin
-Mystery To Me
-Heroes Are Hard To Find
Welch wrote "Sentimental Lady" that first appeared on 'Bare Trees' but later was a hit for him solo. 'Future Games' marked the 1st time Christine was a participant at the forefont (instrumental work only previously). Welch later formed a short-lived band called Paris (Zeppelin-ish).
Glad if the information was useful to you. Fleetwood Mac (first was a song made but ultimately an homage to the 2 long-lasting members of the group throughout all its changes: Mick Fleetwood [DRUMMER] and John McVie [BASS]. It has been noted that Welch led the group into a more melodic direction. The band certainly went through a number of changes, and that can be a good thing (to grow). I think both Welch and Buckingham had good guitar skills that Mick/John felt would help the band's potential.
Definitely. 100% true. And all three of them ... despite their distinctly different styles ... provided much flavor to Fleetwood Mac that has allowed it to be a timeless band. Indeed, each era has something to offer for the avid music listener.
To also clarify a bit (some details get confusing): guitarists Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer had to pick up the slack when Peter Green (frontman) left the band (he was spiked with LSD that led to schizophrenia). Green is the original composer of "Black Magic Woman" (made famous by Santana). Kirwan remained but Spencer eventually left to join a religious group (The Children Of God). Then came in Bob Welch (recommended to the band by a friend) and Christine began participating more.
Welch helped the band form a more pop sound (that was later catapulted further into super-stardom by the arrival of Buckingham and Nicks). Issues with alcohol and internal fighting with the band members caused Kirwan to be fired. Welch (citing exhaustion and seeking more substantive direction) left on his own and formed Paris (with Jethro Tull bassist Glenn Cornick and Todd Rundgren's drummer Hunt Sales). Buckingham was sought to replace Welch but only agreed if Stevie came as well.
CONCLUSION: Welch is the only FM member NOT in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Stevie Nicks felt (after listening to all previously Fleetwood Mac albums) that throughout all their lineup changes, a theme of "the mystic" (or supernatural) was present and that appealed to her (which allowed her to be vital to the band's later hit ingredients with songs like "Rhiannon"). Mick-Christine-Lindsay played on Welch's solo version of "Sentimental Lady." Stevie sang backup on Welch's solo song "Devil Wind."
I have worked in radio for a dozen or so years, and I heard somewhere that Stevie and Lindsay were the Mac's 10th line up...do you know if that is correct?
1st album with the first line up (Peter Green led) was in 1968; 1st album Stevie and Lindsay joined was self-titled in 1975 (it was the 10th album-release to come out by the band).
Not really...beside Welch, Bob Brunning, Dave Mason, Bekka Bramlett, Billy Burnette, Bob Weston, & Dave Walker were also left out from being inducted into the R&R HoF.
Thanks, "MP" for your information. One could easily believe that either you're one of their greatest fans, or, a direct participant. Best concert I ever saw was their 3+ hour show in Wichita Ks, during the 1980s.
Thanks alot for the kind words, chcknsht. I've been a longtime fan of the group & have appreciated each musical phase they were a part of because it produced quality work. I think I like the Bob Welch era the best just because it was really catchy & enjoyable, and not overly pop or grandiose. I liked the kind of jazzy vibe Welch brought to the forefont, plus (as shone on songs like this) he had a great voice. Christine McVie is an exceptional songwriter, very poingant. I'll be that show rocked!
I was obsessed with this song when I first heared it on the radio way back when I was a teenager. It was my favorite song of all time, I think it still is. I especially love how it starts out with the drum beat. I just love it, and always will. Thanks.
this was my fav song with my boyfriend bill gross and i it was our song he died when he and i were 21 and i still miss him this song is so approprite he still nas me hypnotized

Hey bird -- I saw you on Quicksilver -- must have the same musical taste --- this flavor of the Bob Welch and Fleetwood never ending beat is really hypnotism. Rock Chalk.
then try dc++... what .. u guys affraid of the big bad wolf? no one's gonna throw u in jail for a song or two.. it just seems stupid to have to pay for a single damn song.. if u like it so much download it... (hmm i wonder if after this comment I'll get my account removed from this site?.. oh well..)
I think there were several versions of this record. They took Dave Walker of Savoy Brown as singer, then dumped him. He sings the last song on side two "Road Runner", if I'm not mistaken. But not all shipped copies reflected the changes.
great song. some of the best Fleetwood Mac songs are ones before they became "mainstream" three of those are this song,Bare Trees, and my all time favorite Fleetwood Mac song Heroes are hard to find, which i haven' t heard in twenty years!! "just remember when he tells you you've got diamonds in your eyes{he's just lying'} please someone else HAS to remember that song . it was a title freakin' track.
I just got done watching a video set to this song, done live, in 1976, by the iteration of Fleetwood Mac that existed then. Again, with all due respect to Lindsey, hearing that version makes me appreciate Bob Welch's voice on this song even more! The instrumentals can be the same, but without his voice, the haunting tone of this song is just not there.
With all due respect to Stevie, Lindsay, etc., I really like this earlier iteration of Fleetwood Mac better. Also, check out "Sentimental Lady" on their Bare Trees album, also; the backup vocal of Christie really compliments Bob's leads; nicer version, I think, than his solo version.
TIMELESS song. if you didn't know, you could not tell what year this was made. It could be anytime after 1968. It set the tone for decades of smooth jazz rock and A/C songs to come. Pat Metheny might owe his career to this song!
My favorite Fleetwood Mac song EVER! It's a sleeper hit from the early Mystery to Me album when Bob Welch was in the group. I can listen to this song 100 times and it still sounds new. Fantastic song!
My fav Mac tune as well. It's so funny when you talk to people and had no clue the Mac existed before Stevie and Lindsey. My 2 favorite Mac albums are Future Games and Mystery to Me.
if u really want the song, you can just install audacity recording software (its free, just google 'audacity') and then use it to record just the audio off of this youtube video (in audacity, just switch input from microphone to stereo mix). ive done it for several songs and it works well.
Bob Welch may not have gotten more respect because he left the band just before they hit it really big, that is, before the self-titled album and Rumours. For folks looking to download this song, just go out and get a copy of the whole Mystery to Me album. Besides this song, there are plenty of other gems. I have it on vinyl and CD.

then try dc++... what .. u guys affraid of the big bad wolf? no one's gonna throw u in jail for a song or two.. it just seems stupid to have to pay for a single damn song.. if u like it so much download it... I think there were several versions of this record. They took Dave Walker of Savoy Brown as singer, then dumped him. He sings the last song on side two "Road Runner", if I'm not mistaken. But not all shipped copies reflected the changes.

Sad how so many don't remember how truly great Fleetwood Mac was before Buckingham-Nicks came along. Just listen to this song and you'll know.

great song. some of the best Fleetwood Mac songs are ones before they became "mainstream" three of those are this song,Bare Trees, and my all time favorite Fleetwood Mac song Heroes are hard to find, which i haven' t heard in twenty years!! "just remember when he tells you you've got diamonds in your eyes{he's just lying'} please someone else HAS to remember that song . it was a title freakin' track.

I've been listening to this song for 35 years, still enjoy it, had the element of discovery that so much music is lacking now

I agree....this song is a Bob Welch w/Fleetwood Mac classic.

With all due respect to Stevie, Lindsay, etc., I really like this earlier iteration of Fleetwood Mac better. Also, check out "Sentimental Lady" on their Bare Trees album, also; the backup vocal of Christie really compliments Bob's leads; nicer version, I think, than his solo version.
schnertblatt 4 years ago
No question. That version of Sentimental Lady is THE classic.

TIMELESS song. if you didn't know, you could not tell what year this was made. It could be anytime after 1968. It set the tone for decades of smooth jazz rock and A/C songs to come. Pat Metheny might owe his career to this song!

Man! I can totally hear the undertones of Fleetwood Mac w/ Pat Metheny music. I'm amazed that someone knows Pat Metheny

The album cover of Mystery to Me has got to take the cake (pun intended) for most bizarre cover of all time!
A great collection of songs. My favorites: Christine McVie's The Way that I Feel, and Why.

The original FM was the best. None of the whiny coke ho crap from the likes of stevie nicks.
Just great music and a great band.

Does "Audacitiy" bring in any spyware/adware along with the song? I'm dying to get this song in my playlist but not having any luck whatsoever!

This is a great Fleetwood Mac song and I cant download it on itunes. Pissed!!!!
