  • 1 million promised for this from government. plus donations received. equals roughly £400 payout to each victim (not including businesses, they got alot more). charity begins at home you 1 eyed tight fisted scotch git, so stop giving it away to 3rd world countries and start helping our own needy.

  • This is the Norwegian coverage: watch?v=Bd6P_8SJOws

  • A small artificial lake could be created futher up the Derwent river between Cockermouth and Bassenthwaite lake to help obsorb the increased flow-then to release slowly back into the river etc

  • Again if you notice, both the Derwent (main river)and Cockermouth rivers converge to potentially create a natural eddy like swirl with the cricket pitch it's centre. Therefore due to climate change this built up area will likely flood more often. With the right money available, would it not be possible to engineer a main channel down at Workington next to the Workington Bridge, across the Northside rd adjacent to the North side of the town into the sea?

  • Gordon Brown has promised 1 million in aid to the North West .

What he did not tell you he has given 250 million to the third world this month.

The Conservatives promise to double this if elected to 500 million.

I wonder if the folk cleaning out what is left of their homes realise how much they are valued compared to Pakistan and India?

  • whatever you do, dont search "cock a mouth"

  • BusinessForum

I just did that and it was a picture of Brown and Mandelson at it with Sarkozy looking on in a coppers uniform.

  • You're lucky.

I was just saying, they should show the word on the screen, or something. I didn't get anything like what you got. I got the spelling right, on the second attempt.

Nutcases keep telling me I'm being cruel to wet people, but really, I'm just saying don't search that ! I thought it was quite funny, really. For me, anyway. Oh well, I'm logging out for another month. Bye.

  • Bacaca88 is correct: Climat Change.

    Blame:

    1) All the people that keep buying fuel-guzzling BMWs, Alfa-Romeos, etc, etc. then drive them hard because they are so impatient to get to their auntie maud's dinner.

    2) China, three-quarters of their electricity generation is powerd by coal-fired power stations, undoing everything that the rest of the world has tried to do to combat climate change. in 2007 -2008, China opened, on average, 1 coal-fired power station PER WEEK.

    I hate China.

  • yet they probably havent matched yet what we have pumped out since the industrial revolution....hypocrit.

  • Mature, real mature.

  • Get ready for next floods in 2 days.

You get this every November now - why?? - climate change. Many thousands killed in northern Philippines, India and worldwide - luck you got one.

It's going to get a lot worse in the UK. However, keep opposing wind farmsand supporting your banks who fund coal plants and mining in Africa and SE Asia via Isaeli bankers.

After all, your wide screen telly/car is God. Good when you/your telly/your car is 6ft underwater.

You deserve this for causing it.

  • if you meddle with nature ,,,,this is what you get,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    al-gore to the rescue ,,,

  • At present the natural river flow here is being 'hooked' around into an eddy shape so it is no wonder this area became flooded.

  • The solution would be to create a straight channel (with sluice gates) adjacent to the large single, white building to the middle right of the picture 0.21 (please note where the water is naturally overflowing etc) to allow the increased water pressure to flow directly away from the town. However similar measures would need to be carried out down river also. All bridges will need to be 'arched over' in future- rather than having a foundation within the river bed.

  • If we are rational for a few moments, we can see from the ariel pictures that because of the way the river concaves itself at Cockermouth, (like a giant dolphin shaped 'fin' see Goggle Earth) with it's tip effectively 'pinching' the natural flow of the water - it is no wonder under increased rainfall pressure, the water back- flowed onto the near by, higher built up ground.

  • So maybe i was wrong to assume that the flood was caused because there was a unique ammount of sin there.

  • look its these sort of idiots that think that they would not get flooded without knowing the area around them. i am sick of sob stories and people crying get over or move idiots.

  • The water running from the surrounding fells falls into the lakes, the lakes run into the two rivers, and the two rivers run through our little market town of Cockermouth. The rivers join (a confluence) right in the centre of town and this is now just the Derwent. It then runs into the Solway Firth and the Irish Sea. At high tide the Solway itself fill up, and all this extra water from the the relentless rainfall caused the rivers to overflow. You religous fanatics are the ones who need help!

  • THe reason my home town flooded is simple! It rains a lot here that is why we have so many Lakes here. It is called The LAKE DISTRICT and arguably the most beautiful place in England. A big tourist spot. Cockermoth itself is a "GEM " Town of England. Wordsworth was born here as was Fletcher Christian of Mutiny on the Bounty fame. The river Cocker runs from Crummock Lake, The river Derwent runs from Bassenthwaite, and the confluence of these rivers meet in the centre of Cockermouth.

  • it's in the Playboy magazine. LOL

  • EndTimeDelusion1. Don't you think if God (whoever she is) was really smiting the earth she might be aiming a little bit low by flooding a smallish town in Cumbria?

  • But we don't know what went on in this small town. God does.

Jeremiah 47:2 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.

  • And ofcourse out of all the claims that different dieties exist there is no evidence to support any of them.

  • There's archaelogical proof even. The place where Sodom and Gomorrah is, is nothing but ash and sulphur with incinerated human bones in it. Where the egyptians drowned in the red sea, they discovered the egyptian chariot wheels. And loads more they discovered, but the Sodom and Gomorahh documentary blew me away, because the type of ash & sulphur there is unique, such as not found anywhere on earth. It really was destroyed in fire and brimstone.

  • If there proof then religious people do not need faith. There may well have been cities such as Sodom and Gomorrah but that does not mean there is an omnipotent supreme being that created everything.

Have you seen this video: watch?v=bkhQLt1vbWU

  • The way the ground is always moving, seas moving etc there is bound to be roman atifacts found under seas. Similar to how they have found molusc fossils up mountains because mountains are still growing due of the under water lava outlets providing more land so to speak.

  • 1 other thing to take into consideration is human perception. If people believed in such deities 2 thousand years ago and had no knowledge of modern day science they their interpretation of cities burning to the ground, volcanoes exploding, etc they would automaticaly ascribe those things to their idea of a powerful intelligence making it happen. Back in those days "God" wa used to explain everything - tides, thunder, lightening, the sun rising etc so their recount would include that perception

  • i understand what you mean, but Prophecy goes beyond human perception, and Biblical prophecy is the only set of Prophecies that has ever been 100% correct, always, without fail.

  • In reference to fullfilled profecies you must remember that The New Testenment was written after the first one and therefor the second book simply had to say that all the prophecies from the first came true. Im sorry but the quotes you keep providing dont offer any credulatory to me sorry.

  • But i found this -

Luke 13:2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?

Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Luke 13:4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

Luke 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

  • too many mouth sucking cocks.

  • like the MP would know it's a once every 1000 year flood. It's God's judgment smiting the earth.

  • @EndTimeDelusion1 which god would you be refering to? Theres thousands to choose from.

  • If you are a hindu, then there's about 300 million, even Rumila the nipple god lol When some of the angels fell, these became worshipped as gods (e.g krishna). As such they are 'Avatars', that descended from heaven. Only because the fell with Satan though.

Isaiah 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
