  • I love my african heritage. We hail from kings and queens first and slaves second

  • Cecile could pass for white.

  • This movie just breaks my heart. Being a slave in a house was good? I wonder how terrible the fields must have been then. Black people really suffered a lot of cruelty. It breaks my heart.

  • @clsantos0532 this is true cher...sad but true...the next generation always comes first

  • Whoa please tell me he didn't get feelins for jasmine guy

  • This guy really gets around!

  • I guess all people of colour had/ve their problems. I wouldn't know how to handle a situation like Marie's.

  • @BlazinTrinindad thats Robert Richard who is really creole, he does not have contacts..Google him..and he also played on Cousin Skeeter w/ Megan Good & One one One

  • I'm sorry Sally Hemming

  • The sister..is how I would imagined Sally Hennings looked of the Thomas Jefferson story

  • @Psalm30eleven thats funny because that actress nicole lyn is barely white...shes half chinese..half black.

  • @SoYahYah

Lyn's father is chinese and white just read it on wikipedia.

  • Eww....creepy old man.

  • Your question involves two parts...only one I can answer truthfully and only based on opinion...I do believe that Monique earned her Award for her protrayal of the character...I watched the movie and she was good...but I think that there are quite a number of actors/actresses that have done excellently and have not gained well deserved recognition...(cont'd in next post)

  • Lust had A LOT to do with it.Read up on why quadroon balls were held. They basically made those women into ready made, hot, temptress whores. They weren't going to marry them. They damn sure tried their best not to give them their last names. They wanted a lil' colour in their sugar but not too much. If I parade around looking for a husband who had money, land, & property I would be known as a mistrustful gold digger. They had those girls thinking they were better than the darker ones. The nerve.

  • that blonde boy with the contacts.....smh

  • @BlazinTrinidad that's his real eye color

  • Kinda strange the only time you see a wide range of colourful black folks in film is when you see movies like this. ( What is Chris to Jasimine Guy character?) Her father???

  • @Sahbisun i know what you mean...I was saying this the other day...few roles are made with black people in mind...it is now changing with persons like Tyler Perry although Spike Lee has been doing so as well for some time

  • @Nappypoet4Christ Do you think there's a downfall to that though? Having an all black cast? I remember someone was saying that was the reason why neither Spike Lee and Tyler Perry never won top notch awards (oscars, golden globes,etc.).

  • @crazydestiny17 I totally agree with you that it is a downfall...but I have several views on that...if an all black cast leads to no awards that is something we are accustomed to...people talk about BET and NAACP still existing although we are trying to integrate and remove racial ideologies...but when we don't get the appreciation and recognition from others we have to continue opening and keeping open avenues to show our love to each other...just this morning I was talking about that

  • @crazydestiny17 Its sad that that is the reality and maybe one day it will change. I look at some all black movies like this one and I wonder why they are under rated when some stupid movies out there get recognition . our comedies and tv shows are being cut from mainstream channels and they keep sticking the lone black character in an all white show as a means of affirmative action if you ask me. one day we will reach. No. we are already there. ignorant people cant set standards for us

  • @Nappypoet4Christ Hey I got a question. Do you think Monique earned her Oscar? I feel like black actors and actresses only recieve awards when they're playing a bad person (crackhead or a corrupted cop).

  • @crazydestiny17 for the second part of your question/statement, I find that very thought provoking but I cannot really comment because I have never noticed that before. I wouldn't be surprised though if that is so. And if it is, that is very sad because there are so good commendable respectful worthy roles and characters that are not recognized. People feel insulted or annoyed that there is a BET Awards and NAACP Awards. but my parents always say that charity (love, honour) begins at home.

  • @Sahbisun and chris is her son

  • Like most people the majority of people their problems are caused by their parents.

  • What a creep?

  • @vtoodler More than a creep. That old man was a rude pervert. =(~

  • Dirty ole buzzard!

  • THAT IS SAD WHITE MEN LUSTING FOR LIGHT SKINNED BLACK AND MAKING THEM THINK THEY ARE BETTER THAN DARK SKINNED BLACKS,THATS WHY ARE RACE IS SO FUCKED UP

  • @MrBLACKWORLD33 Lust had nothing to do with it. Here in New Orleans, free people of color of all hues, especially those of mixed heritage, cherished their status of having the same legal rights as whites, even if it was not the case socially. It's history. Race is not fucked up. Our attitudes and misconceptions about it are.

  • @MrBLACKWORLD33 I know what you mean, and I agree that our society shouldn't take any importances of skin color or hair types.

  • Oh shit, I didn't know that Jasmine Guy Played in this Cool I love her.

  • @BiracialGirl1977 Me too. She's great in that movie. However, I hate how her father and Cecile treats Lisette and Zazou in this scene. Zazou worked herself to death pleasing Cecile's selfish demands.

  • The only thing I don't like about these adaptations is once you read the book, you know what really happened. And as I'm watching, I'm going ... 'that didn't happen like that.'

But still...thanks for posting! I still like it regardless.

  • jess he is a creep!!

  • @ilovecronaldo7 The problem is that such women, the men knew they could 'presume' since womne like Marie were basically marked for the life of becoming a mistress.

  • Awwh that famous actress from the Spike Lee movie School Days is in this too!! OMG she plays Bonnie's mom on vampire diaries. :)

  • merci!
