Still waiting for mine the mail...but I got this idea, not sure if you'd have any insight on it but...to achieve more sitar like bends, one would imagine a whammy bar could help with that? I wouldnt have the slightest clue how to achieve that though, I have the same stop tail piece as yours coming my way...oh well just an idea..
@meestro when i need an eastern sound i always play a banjo in this style, because sitars are expensive but i have a banjo and it can produce an eastern sound
i did some clips of the retroman scram using this technique. go to retroman-music, click on products, & then on "more info" for the scram. you'll see 3 clips of mine there.
it's done with a 2nd bridge/metal surface that almost clips off the notes. when you pluck the strings, they resonate against that surface, making 'em kinda rattle & sputter, which is EXACTLY how the coral electric sitar worked. you can do it yourself by sliding a tuning fork under the strings near the bridge or bridge pickup, & then playing as you would normally. you can also simulate it with a green ringer or other clean sounding- octaver, & backing yer vol pot way back.
and, as far as the scales? I just sorta wing that! I'm not theoretically-gifted or knowledgeable in the names of the scales. I learned a great deal by ear recognition and by simple "mimic" ability. I know my way around it, but it is difficult for me to translate it verbally.
Hey opengee, finally got around to ordering this nifty little tool, and was wondering if there is a string gauge you would suggest? I traded in a horrendous squire strat, and my ex's bass (hehehe) at a pawn shop for a Dano U2 just like yours but blue! New Delhi hear I come!
I just use .010's, they work fine. You might wanna try 9's. You ideally wanna be able to bend them VERY easily and sometimes bend them up a step and a half or more. The lower tunings allow for less string resistance, open D for example.

Ok thanks, right now on my hollowbody I have 10-52's and love them ever since switching down from a heavier gauge. Obviously just trying to sound as authentic as possible. Honestly can't say I've ever purchased a set of 9's in my life, and only hopped on the 10-52 bandwagon last week, sounds great though. For my acoustics I love John Pearse, they never ever break, but for electric I go Elixir, they just feel and sound fantastic, but don't bother getting elixirs for acoustic, they snap easy.
so its in c then

hello! I got a problem trying to mod my 56 danelectro. I bought the all parts sitar bridge and a all parts tail.
its totally not in tune!
it's not usuable at all, just maybe around the 5 first frets......
I just reallised it cannot be in tune as this new bridge totally changes the diapason of the guitar!

FAN-tastic! loved it!

Sounds more like a banjo rather than sitar with the staccato picking and note choice, but interesting sound, nonetheless!

How is the guitar making the sitar sound? Very Cool

What did you use to hold the strings? I just bought a U2 and I'm about to get the gotoh bridge.
Thanks.

i have a 56 U2, it doesn't sound like that tho! lol
I heard those "This bird has flown" licks in there
How did you get that kind of sound, are you using a pedal?
TonySarandrea215 2 years ago
That is really cool, what is the tuning and scales you are using?
freelancefiend66 2 years ago
it is essentially an open E tuning, only tuned way down to an open C.
