@cvdman ....i agree!!! my favorite all time eurovision winner too. i was 7 in 1965 and the first time i remember watching was when luxembourg won with frans gall
Haven't heard this in years....at any other time this would have been winning material. Too bad Apres Tois was also so very good. Where did this come in the end?
wow... how nice to hear TOM FLEMING the scottish commentator who has commented on royal funerals and state occassions as well as being a highly regarded broadcaster he has commentated on the edinburgh tatoo for nearly 50 years an instantly recognisable voice !!! a great scottish man
the blue danube by strauss was better than apes toi,new seekers were no 1 all over europe . they went forward in the charts, while the french song went backwards, just like thier TANKS
Well , considering I've been buying & collecting music, records, etc for over 30 years ( longer than you've actually lived ) I think I would know more about what's good and what's not .
i was 4. remember my sisters playin this. look at them. thay sang it from the heart. not for mony or fame but thay sang it to win. now days ill thay see is ££££££££££££££
'Beg, Steal or Borrow' and 'Metal Guru' by T.rex were my first 2 singles. I had them for my birthday and we played over and over at my birthday party. The only other record we had was my older brothers LP 'Slade Alive'-which to us 9 year olds-sounded really awful!!!
Great song. The New Seekers were so talented. I can remember being allowed to stay up and watch The Eurovision Song Contest, we should have won with this song. Peter Doyle was my favourite, what an incredible voice he had. May he R.I.P. He is sadly missed.
Who's doing the commentary for this? He sounds as if he's got the regimental mascot rammed up his fundament. Note how he gets the correct French pronunciation on baton.
A man called Tom Fleming. He also used to commentate on military events such as The Royal Tournament, Trooping the Colour and The Edinburgh Miltary Tatoo. This was in the days before Terry Wogan did it. I can well remember watching this Eurovision (albeit in Black & White). It was a very close run thing between the UK and Luxembourg on the night although personally I also rather liked the Swedish entry - I am sure that ABBA 'borrowed' some of their techniques. 1972 = Happy Days !
The best ever UK Eurovision entry, from one of the best ever pure pop groups - but sadly rather underrated. Great singers. Great harmonies. Makes you realise just how dismal some of our subsequent entries have been.
We wuz robbed! Doesn't this, compared to entries for the 'modern' Eurosong contest, make you realise quite how good a band the New Seekers were? Eve Graham's backing vocal quite outstanding.
@TK21060 - I agree. Eve has a range of 3 octaves; she sings the top D at the end of "Never Ending Song Of Love". Sadly, there's no footage on YouTube of The New Seekers' live favourite "I'm A Nut", in which she plays a kazoo solo!

Sing these words to the chorus of Apres Toi:
'We woz robbed, by a mmm, ok French song, when the best song that year came in in second place
We woz robbed, Beg Steal or Borrow, by the New Seekers, had so much more class
We all know, that 123strauss clearly doesn't know what he's on about
We woz robbed, if you think any different, you can stick it - right up your a..'

In Sweden this song was performed by a group called Pastellerna. The song was calles "Ler, ber och bönar" (Smile, pray and plead).
Ja, många ler, ber och bönar
men man får ta det kallt
och med en nypa salt.....
...and so on...

mraverege88 3 years ago
singing live of course, thats the rules of
contest,i can understand your question though.
i was lucky enough to see the new seekers live three times in the 70s,FANTASTIC GROUP.
you can get dvd of the new seekers live at albert hall 1972 at any good on line music store
marymillar 3 years ago
LIVE of course! Miming is strictly banned in ESC, thats why so many no-talents come unstuck.
