Pretty sure the magnet has to have a very weird magnetic field for this to work.

But to be a bit educational about it. I think this one works in the way that the magnetic field are amp'd up to the point where its able to move the paper clip. (which is obviously why it wouldnt work with a plastic paper clip). The effect should be bigger if you use a silver or gold piece in place of the paper clip.
