  • Having seen JP live many times over the years, he remains amused by the good lines, as if he's just written the song and is looking at the notebook, saying to himself: "Now that's a winner, I'm gonna go have a smoke and a beer..." Watch the bassist almost laugh, at about 3:40, after he's harmonized the "raped by a min-or-i-tee" line. That's the type of line that only JP can get away with, without coming off like an a-hole, 'coz it's the attitude of the people in the song, not his own.

  • haynes carl is like john as a song writer,,,,,,,,,only 1 prime prine

  • oh my, never seen him with dark hair! LOL

  • Happy B-Day John 10/10/2010

  • John Prine is the Norman Rockwell of music.

  • I hum this song alot nowadays after encountering a no-one-has-a-fucking-clue 4-way-stop cluster fuck.

  • Tried to view Paradise and comes up not available in my country UMG?? I can view the others why not that one? Loved this one. Thanks for the post.

  • Something to do with copyright restrictions. YouTube wasn't asked to remove the video, only to make it unavailable in certain places, and I'm not really sure what that accomplishes.

  • Nobody comes close! Love you John!

  • Brings back fond memories of times gone bye. Shed a tear for loved one gone..

  • This is one of the most "politically incorrect" songs that exists! I love it!

  • Everytime I approach a 4 way stop I smile and sing! So simple ... So much happiness .. John Prine Is timeless !!! I'll co- sign the national treasure nomination!

  • "more famous than the Grand Canyon" - awesome line! I'd pay $10,000 to drive around listening to John explain all these song inspirations.

  • I love this man and his music. This song was a favorite,on an album I bought 30 yrs ago. It still holds up,and makes me laugh. What more could you want from a song?

  • where is this 3rd and greene? woquawka, IL?

  • Mayfield, IL, John's home town

  • Whoops, brainfart, Maywood, IL

  • Third & Green is in Maywood, Illinois - John's (and my) hometown.

  • Ahh, the better points of life.

  • Heyyyyy, How Lucky Can One Man Get?

  • God almighty, I just cant understand why this man is not officially declared a national treasure. John prine is an incredible song writer, singer, story teller and human being. So unselfish he must be to write something like this for us...we really dont know how lucky we are...to have him with us now. Thank you John prine.

  • This and Let's talk dirty in hawaiian are two of my all time favorites!

  • been waiting for this one!!!!! thanks jordanthecat and stalphege you both have made mt day!peace from kentucky

  • Ive posted quite a bit of John Prine, but this is possibly my favourite song of his - something about how he can write such a gem of a song about such a trivial and mundane incident. Genius !

  • I just realized that I've watched and enjoyed a number of the Prine videos you've uploaded, Laurie. I've subscribed so that I don't lose track of them. Thanks for sharing!

  • Mutual appreciation society........ Ive now subscribed to your channel !

    Laurie

  • What is trivial about a drunk driving accident?

  • nice

  • jordanthecat...thank you sooooo much for posting these prine videos. i can't thank you enough!

  • Thanks for posting this video. Today I happened to think of this song again which was odd since the last time I heard it was about twenty years ago, coincidentally in exactly the context you describe yourself; around a campfire listening to a friend with a guitar. Couldn't even remember the name but searched the "minority" bit and lo and behold you had uploaded it a month earlier. Great memories. Thanks again!

  • I'm enjoying these prine vids Ian..Right on! Hey how about another performance from you?

    Rob

  • Hi, Rob! My NZ friend alpheta22 is currently trying to add harmonies to "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" for me. Having never done a collaboration before, neither one of us really knows what the heck we are doing.

  • thanks for the video post Ian!

  • It was about 150 degrees (exagerated temp) outside & her air-conditioner wasn't working. She invited us to dinner that night to thank us but we couldn't make it. We had tickets to see John Prine. True story.

  • And you pronounced all the victims okay! That is a great true story indeed!!

  • A buddy & I were stopped at a light in Denver one evening (waiting for it to turn green). A lady behind us hit her brakes a little late to stop from ramming us (she was trying to manage her young kids in the back seet). After we sat up from jolting foreward we looked at eachother & started singing this song. We walked back to the ladies car to make sure they were all ok. While we waited for an officer to arive we went into the convenience store & brought out slurpees for the lady & her kids.
