An additional conundrum could be seen in The British Museum as a fair proportion of its collection was taken as the British pillaged and profited whilst empire building. Culturally they are of significance to their countries of origin and should perhaps be returned? But then they wouldn't be part of such a large contextual collection, receive some of the greatest care in the world and may have never been preserved in the first place. A difficult argument to balance.
I know that there are some horrible thing that happen to artifacts and stories are lost forever when looting happens. But, I wish you brought more light the fact that Archaeologist can work with museums to fix this. I know that this message was implied in the video, but it just felt very negative towards museums in general. A less capitalist approach needs to be taken and a love for history and stories needs to be the driving force. Still informative video and a important content to discuss. :)
I was learning and I didn't even realize it.... Honestly that's appalling, all that awesome history. Gone, just gone, destroyed. To think there is more we could have learned about Ancient Egypt, Ancient China, Ancient Rome... Maybe it's just my personal love of history but this really makes me sad.
If I may, I would like to make a suggestion about the production of your videos. The content is excellent, and the presentation is very good as a whole, but everytime a clip begins with you turning your head from your script to the camera I can't help but cringe. Would you consider moving the script directly behind the camera, so it is less obvious, or maybe even pausing a second each time after you look down, so that you could edit it out later? Thanks!
I'm only a little ashamed to admit that when I saw you had a new video I made an excited squeaking sound. I am not a squeaker. Congrats. Love your vlogs!
@clackitycat I'll check it out, but we have to trade: you should check out Stealing History by Roger Atwood. Fantastic stuff, reads like an adventure novel.
@SHADO603 Isaw i spelt that wrong after posting I just cba to to change it :) But nice to know someone's willing waste their time changing me, makes me feel that little bit special :)
So what would you suggest as a possible solution? Choking the demand of private collectors is a tall order. How would you increase awareness of the importance of the preservation of historical cultures without the beautiful museums?
why aren't teachers like you

You need to go to the British museum: we cut out the middle man by going out and looting ourselves.
