@train2589 Usually they just sound one continuous "Attack" tone for up to 10 minutes at a time. No variation in the sound's waveform whatsoever.

How far away from you is the siren in this video?

We are less than one block from the siren..it is mounted on top of the building that you see briefly at 4:31-51, you see a flat roofed building, that's looking directly west, just to the south of that bldg is a very tall brick building, THAT is where the siren is mounted. We were all okay, just a little shaken, but very thankful the damage wasn't worse and no one hurt. Our thoughts and prayers have and continue to go out to our fellow Kansans in Greensburg.

Gotta love how older siren's sound penetrates.... To be heard clearly in homes. They just don't make em like that anymore! you're maybe a couple hundred yards from a 2T22 siren. The 'bite' in the sound means you're awful close to the siren.

I live east of Topeka and the sirens go off anytime there's a tornado warning in our COUNTY. I used to live in NE Kansas and our house had a freaking wine cellar three feet below the basment floor (lucky us, we didn't have to run outside or worry too much about flying debris). My folks now live in SE Kansas with NO basement. So where is Ellis. I've heard of it, just don't remember. That is a sweet vid of the storm. I've never had the privilege of seeing one that bad.

Pfft. The sirens haven't gone off around here in years except for the tests to see if they work. Even the tests are rare. They schedule used to be the first Monday of every month, but it's been messed up, so it always scares me at first before I realize it's a test.

The only downside to a Federal Signal 2t22 siren is that it can only operate on AC power. If there is now power to the siren, you're screwed.
