  • Why don't we get this diesel monster in Europe!?

The only decent-powerful Izusu engine is the V6 3.0liter and it's either reliable or it'll have its cilinder liners dropped at some point.

  • that sucks

    lol

we have that, plus an 6.0, 6.4 powerstroke

and the monster dodge diesel 6.7 cummins

  • the current duramax has more horsepower and torque than the any cummins, the cummins is a good engine though no arguing that

  • my o7 truck sounds exactly like that at start up!

  • no shit

  • i own a 03 LB7, at times it has an injector knock, took it into the dealer they said to just add BG K44 cleaner to it and it would go awyay

  • Word is Caterpillar is goin with Toyota. Ford dropped International and is doing there own in house. International is going with Nissan. Chevy Dropped Isuzu and is doing there own in house also. Honda and Isuzu are also breaking into the diesel market. Dodge is supposedly losing its contract with Cummins and I have no clue where thats headed.

  • That has been rumor for over 5 years. Cat would never go with toyota it would just be stupid. Ford who cares what ford does because it is always a falure. Chevy would never loose isuzu because they (1) They make the worlds best diesels (2) They have so much money invested in the duramax (3) GM ownes most of isuzu. If dodge looses cumming it would not hurt them. Chrysler owns mercedes which makes great diesel motors that they put in freightliners. So everyone get their panties out of a bunch.

  • Chrysler is not with mercedes any more.

  • that is a myth i know that wouldnt happen

  • OK i'll tell you what take all 3 trucks leave them in -45 degree weather and see which one starts without plugging in the heater! the one that will start the easiest is the duramax of course..

  • man I dont know, I own a duramax and at -25 ish its hit or miss, just keep up on the cold weather additive and fresh batterys!

  • i think chevrolets the only way to go on anything but anybody here know anything about fuckin toyotas diesel dually there maybe comin out with??? if you hear anything let me know i heard there puttin 8.0L straight sixes in front of a 5speed eaton-fuller standard

  • I heard they were putting in a Catapillar diesel engine, but I don't know what size. They'll probbably go with an ultra heavy duty 6 speed auto transmission to try to match the Allison. Good Luck.

  • I saw an artical on that Toyota dually in Diesel power like a couple years ago and they were talkin about the 8.0L

  • I work on duramax diesels and the only problem I have seem with the 6.6 is the injectors go bad from poor fuel. Just little info

  • thats just on the 01-03 lb7 engines which was the 1st gen dmax

  • Negative, Even the newer ones have a lot of injector issues. But you are correct the LB7'

  • i'll secont that motion!

  • the test between the 6.7L Cummins,6.6L Duramax and 6.4L Powerstroke in the 2008 Models leaves the Duramax undefeated..

  • I love Fords and the superdutys...but GM's numbers with their duramax seem very appealing; every time they update they kill any other truck (pulling performance and 0-60 times). It seems the duramax/allison combo is unbeatable at the moment. Somebody needs to do another test on the 2008 model years (GM vs Ford vs Dodge) as I have only seen a 2006 test on all three. Would be interesting!

  • they did its in the popular machenics issue & the GMC wins again

  • Ouch...man it even kills Dodge AND Ford's new engines! I'd get a GMC in a second if it had the look and size of a Ford Superduty...but for a 8.4-second 0-60 time yeah that sounds reeeaal nice to me!

    Thanks for the info jimbo

  • Close the hood and it is by far the most quiet and capable of all the diesels.

  • yeah ok. bring it on ill pull anything you have

  • what do u have man??

  • get a powerstroke sissies

  • ford sucks so why dont you go and die

  • ok, ill pull whatever truck u have with my 03 ford f240 PSD lariat

  • Thanks for the advice billy bob. Go drink some moonshine and celebrate.

  • ha, come wash my truck while i fuck your mother, what do you drive?? a fuckin PINTO??

  • Duramax is Isuzu you can get parts for them at the Isuzu dealer. They will also do engine work on the duramax.

Jake doesn't make a brake for it as Cummin's paid to have one on there new truck but you can get several butterfly style exhaust brakes for the duramax. I have a Banks on my 3500 dodge and love it. They are all the same style just different ways of making them work.

  • Stupid new emissions requirements :(

  • Isuzu helped GM build the duramax right? but isnt Isuzu owned by GM?

  • GM owns 12% of Isuzu. So they are still working together and they created a joint vecture of American/Japanese "DMAX" to manufacture Duramax diesel engines together.

  • hey genius... gm owns all of isuzu and the duramax has been out since the early 80's jus not offered in the lightduty world

  • Do you have a source? I've seen nothing about GM owning all of Isuzu.

Actually, after reading a couple more sources, GM sold its last 7.9 percent of Isuzu stake last year -- April 11, 2006.

You can read it yourself -- type in "General Motors to Sell Equity Stake in Isuzu Motors Ltd." in Google search and click on the first link.

I'd post it myself, but I can't post links on Youtube's comment section.

  • ill see if i can find it again but in our text book from wyotech it said gm owns the isuzu corp. u could be right...u kno how books are...

  • GM had to go out side of the US do get anything out the Durajoke...

GM CELEBRATES ONE-MILLIONTH DURAMAX DIESEL. DMAX Ltd., a joint venture between GM & Isuzu Motors Limited, was established as a diesel engine company in 1998. GM first introduced the Duramax diesel in the U.S. in 2001 model year. GM's heavy duty diesel pickup market share has jumped nearly tenfold in the six years Duramax engines have been offered.

  • a diesel engine is a diesel engine. it dosen't matter dmax,psd,cummin.

  • A dumbass is a dumbass. It doesn't matter, gay, eunich, straight.

  • wow did i hit a nerv? get over it.

  • its way to quiet...

  • wow who cares id rather have quiet then obnoxiously loud with a gay sound to it

  • Na i want a loud ass diesel, loud enough to wake up the neighbors anyhow lol. I was wondering also can a jake break be installed in the duramax ?

  • i believe i have seen kits from banks so i guess yea

  • Sorry, I can't answer that question about the jake brake being installed on the duramax.

You'll have to call Wong Sing in Japan for assistance.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA youll have to be charged long distance for that one kid. lol

  • you can downshift the allison w/ the tapstick on the shifter it aint quite a jake brake but it does the trick

  • please tell me they got this engine in the 2007 duramax redesigned ones??!!

  • Yes, they do.

  • i'm curious to hear what the 6.7 cummins sounds like. I've heard it's the cleanest diesel out there so far, but what about the noise level?

  • quieter version of a 5.9 really

same block and all so not much difference

  • I would buy a diesel powered Chevy in a second if the Duramax was louder and if it was not Japanese. The Allison transmission does not make up for those two faults either.

  • dmax is made in the usa and the new dodges run jap trannys so wtf does it matter and for loud put an exhuast on it. one is no better than the other. and for durabuilty there has been versions of the dmax around since the 80s. just because your cummins/dmax/psd or whatever didnt have problems doesnt mean there isnt one built that doesnt

  • I think it's pretty embarassing to say I have a Chevrolet with a Japanese diesel engine in it. It's made in the USA, but it's still half Isuzu.

What was wrong with the Detroit Diesel engines to make GM get rid of them?

  • isuzu has been owned by gm for about 20 years so how is japanese still. all cars have japanese parts in them. makes a hill of beanss

  • Remind me where you got this idea. XD

  • Oh well, at least the diesel that's coming for the half tons will be 100% designed and built by GM. Isuzu will not be involved at all. Plus, it will have 310 hp and 520 lb. ft of torque, about as much as the Duramax lb7 that was released in 2001.

  • Detroit Diesel is now owned by Daimler-Chrysler. That is a very good reason why they don't buy engines from them. They would rather make their own.

  • Whoops, forgot to tell you the site. Just go to the Diesel Power Magazine's website, and click on the Diesel Power Challenge EAST link.

  • Okay, then why is it that the Duramax always comes out on top in those competitions?

  • what kind of comp's you go to?

the top five at the places i see are crowded with dodges.

i saw a 550hp dodge that pulled to 302ft with a 6spd and a 700hp durashit pull to 304. with simple mods the dodge would kill that kids duramax.

the farthest i've seen any truck pull was 338' and that was a cummins.

  • Every diesel magazine I look at with competition sled pulls, the duramax usually always comes out on top.

  • Well anyway, just look at this

  • look at what?

there are dozens of sled pulls every 2 months and every 4 months is when i usually see sled pull coverage in a mag.

you don't know what kind of mods someone does to their trucks and who is bringing their trucks to competitions. the only reliable way to compare is to see who makes the most records.

if somebody makes a top pull at one competition that can either be a new record or lower than the current.

  • no i have the 07 dmax and it dont come stock with 660 torque i have diablo programmer and 4 inch open exuast and got it on the dyno and it has 425 horse and 791 torque at the rear wheels

  • WTF, did you say it "DON'T" come stock with 660 ft lbs. of torque? Uh yeah, it does come with 660 ft lbs. of torque dumbass!!!

  • Yeah, I kind of agree with you, because a duramax with 5 speed manual can tow about 12,000 lbs. give or take, but he's talking about the manuals in pickups. Also semis have about 18 or more gears in their transmissions and that helps alot.

  • daishi422,

it does not have anywhere near 890 lb/ft of torque. Well, it may be for the Kodiak and Topkick trucks but not the pickups, it's still 660 ft/ lbs. which is still more than the 08 super duty 6.4 diesel and the cummins 6.7. diesel. Sorry, I am a chevy fan, but those are the facts.

  • well said.

  • 890ft/lbs is for the 7800 Duramax in the Topkick/Kodiak.

  • Nice! *drools*

  • With Allison tranny right ?

  • Correct. It's the Allison 1000 6-speed auto. No more manual transmission for the Duramax, or Vortec.

  • that sucks

i'll just buy a cummins and 6 spd manual.

  • damn everybody knows jack about gm diesels you can use the allison 6speeds like a manual with the tapshift and gm never made th dmax with a 5speed stick

  • Yeah, the did actually offer a 5 speed manual with the Duramax.

  • see you are a dumbass it was 6 speed manual and only on lb7s and llys.

  • the 6000 isn't a vortec?

  • yes it is look at the engine cover vortec uses the same engine cover as the other gen3 and gen4 powered trucks the 8.1 was different type cover but still called a vortec. furthermore the 6.0 4.8 and 5.3 are the same block along with the ls1 ls2 and ls6. gen3s are cast iron gen4s are aluminum

  • What are the HP and Tq numbers for the Duramax ?

  • 365 hp / 660 lb-ft

  • the redesigned 2007 dmax im not sure hp but it is 890 lb/ft. hoorah torque!

  • More quiet than Ford and Dodge! ;)

  • more powerful too
