Comparing Iran to the Soviet Union is ridiculous considering he has also said that there is a greater risk of a nuclear attack on the US now than there was during the cold war. The reason why is that Iran is a blatant state sponser of terrorism and, unlike the Soviet Union, terrorists are actively attempting to obtain and use nuclear weapons against the US whereas with the cold war, the US and the Soviet Union were not trying to start a nuclear war.

Chinese workers average $0.50/hr, no American worker can compete against that. In 1967 CEO's made 20 X the average worker, today it exceeds 500 X the average worker.
With NAFTA & the destruction of unions Americans workers have no hope.
Walmart makes 20% on US made goods, but %70 on China made goods.
What happens when workers cannot collectively bargin, & CEO pay is linked to Stock Price. Outsourcing!

Whilst I'm sure Mr Obama had the noblest of intentions here, current events would indicate that appeasement will work no better for him than it did for Neville Chamberlain.
The depth of hatred between Israel and Iran is such, I believe, that 1000 years from now, we will still be trying to keep the peace between them.(assuming of course, disaster can be avertted on this occasion.....)

The reason conflict & terisum continues in the middle east is because of the 1916 British & French Sykes-Picot agreement.
This Agreement handed over control of Syria, Lebanon & Turkish Cilicia to the French. Palestine, Jordan & areas around the Persian Gulf & Baghdad to the British. If you recall Obama made overtures to the state of Iran... in fact, he was again criticized because his first public address as President-elect was to the Arabic community.
