So did my former Southwest Texas State fellow alum Spurgeon get better once he left the NFL? I happen to be listening to an old college football broadcast with him playing.
i watched him play for the cleveland browns a few years back, he doesnt know shit about being a QB, deserved being on the field twitching...prolly why hes in the CFL anyways. having a decent arm means squat if u dont audible out of a bad blitz protection.
it wasn't even the def. of takles that killed him... the blocker was supposed to have his back and they let 4 men get pass? shows that you can't trust your team.

The reason why American Football players hit harder is because they wear padding and they use their helmets as a means of attack rather than protection. If you put a rugby player up against an American Footballer without pads on, the rugby player would win every time!
Wrong, wrong, WRONG! Why is it always the ones that have no knowledge of a sport, spouts off about what they do not know? Don't believe the hype pal. If you had played american football, you would know that the pads AREN'T used for attack! The pads are used in the same way airbags are used in an automobile. If we did not wear some form of padding, players wouldn't last one game.you players average about 6'3-6'6. our players START at almost 6'6! And they're loaded with roids! you do the math.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You only have to look at a player like Ronnie Lott. He was only 6 foot and 200 pounds, but he hit like a steam train and 80% of his hits were with his helmet! American football and rugby players are pretty much the same size on average except you don't get players in international rugby who are fat like offensive and defensive lineman in American Football and you don't get rugby players reaching for the oxygen once they have made a tackle.
Rugby players are flat out for 80 minutes! American Footballers are always stopping and starting and they are always chopping and changing every few plays or so. And as about me not knowing a sport, I have been watching American Football and rugby for about 20 years here in the UK and I am a fan of both sports! But rugby players are fitter and harder!
Fitter and harder huh? You british faggot. If they played against the NFL in pads or no pads they would piss their pants. We dont have scrums with a bunch of "blokes" grabbing each others asses. Rugby sucks, so does soccer. Piss on Princess Diana. Go see a dentist.
Thanks Max! Nice to see someone talking sense! :-) I have a lot of respect for NFL and NBA players, don't get me wrong. I also follow the NHL as well and those guys hit hard. Since rugby has become professional, they have become some of the fittest sportsmen on the planet.
Also billyjoelsux, you can say what you want about the Royal Family as I am not a royalist. And also, why should I see a dentist? Are you going to come and knock my teeth out then Mr Elton John fan? ;-)
elton john sucks, but compared to all you other limeys he kinda looks masculine. You need to see a dentist because all you bloody wankas have jacked up teeth
Do you realize the training involved with playing in the nfl?? the nfl, and nba has some of the most fittest men on the planet. when i played football, we had to run 20-30 min. increments, one beginning, and one ending. thats 40-60 mins total at 2/3 max, no jogging! add in the practice and drop dead workouts, it was killer. i also ran 5-10 miles a week on my own.
Well, I played both Rugby and American Football here in the UK and Rugby is the harder sport! I played nowhere near the top level in either sport but I know which ones hit harder and which ones are the fittest!
i have respect for all sports too. it takes dedication to become professional. rugby DOES hit hard, football hits in a different way. doctors calculated that a full speed hit by a top linebacker like brian urlacher or L.T., is the equivalent of dropping a bowling ball from a 12 story building, or a 55 mph. crash. i seen, and FELT, some mean hits in rugby. both are no joke.
you can't really compare the 2 b/c there totally diff styles of tackling. rugby is basically more conservative b/c you have to get up right away and keep playing. football is more aggressive tackling b/c you get a break in b/w each play. I played both rugby and football at FAU. given there are some disgusting hits in Rugby, especially when you break the rules and hit people in the air, but you dont get the head - head collisions you get in American football.
that's called SPEARING, and it is NOT allowed. if the refs see it, they get the flag. sometimes, it may look as if someone's spearing. the player making the hit can get serious nack injuries doing that. the days of the "fat, slow" lineman are nearing an end. because of the increased speed of the game, they have to be leaner, stronger, and faster. at the nfl combines, it's not uncommon to see a 6'6, 290lb lineman run a 4.7-4.8 40!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You still see fat pigs now weighing 360 lbs in the NFL O-lines. They are given an all-meat diet with a pre-season Steroid program so that they can train, and still be quick, but don't for a second say that they are athletes because they are freaks of nature. Might as well be Bears and Gorrillas playing the O-line. Many have health issues after, with their heart and their knees because of this extra weight they carry. A 290lbs O-lineman is practically the smallest guy on their O-line today.

If it's so ridiculous and I know nothing about football, ask former players who played the O-line 30 years ago, when they were not even as big as they are today?...that is, if you can find any alive? If it is true that 80% of his tackles were led with his helmet, and I'm not so sure it is, then I would sure not like to be him today. He would have a lot of headaches from all those concussions. It was always illegal to lead with the helmet, but the rules are more strictly enforced today because helmet tackles could cause catastrophic injuries causing paralysis to either the the tackler or the guy getting tackled, if it's a helmet to helmet collision that could break someone's neck.
Yes it is. As you hear the announcer say, there's 6 seconds left in the half, so it was the last play. Wynn stayed down for 10 minutes and the cheerleaders were doing their halftime show with him still on the field...lol.

TRUE STATEMENT: the Cleveland Browns drafted this brother at QB before Tom Brady, who the Patriots selected later in that same draft.
YET ANOTHER example of NFL teams trying to go black at the QB position when it never ever leads to a ring. Only Doug Williams in 1987.
JaMarcus Russell anyone?
Vince Young?
Daunte Culpepper?
Andre Ware?
Akili Smith?
Byron Leftwich?
Keep trying the black route stupid GMs and keep letting guys like Brady, Warner, Romo, Rodgers slip.....
