Miranda is the client for me. You only download what you want and need. I would only recommend it for power users, people with a lot of time or machocists that have no idea what they're doing. I use Miranda and love but my friends tell me its too much work. Plus, no ads!
I chat only on my msn account with Miranda and of course my friends say that it's so much work too. It's because they just wanna chat on msn and Windows Live Messenger 'is the best program' for it because you can add easily your custom smileys, wallpapers, etc. Miranda is much complicated than WLM. But I like it's simplicity x3.
I used Trillian about 4 or 5 years ago, then switched back to using separate clients, then I used Gaim (now Pidgin) for a year or so, switched back to separate clients, and then I finally stumbled upon Miranda IM. I haven't used anything else since and I don't plan on switching. Miranda IM is very flexible because of the plugins and skins you can install to enhance the user experience.
Thanks, Chris. I'd downloaded Adium before, but I hadn't yet used it. It works great and is obviously a hell of a lot better than having 3 IM programs open at once. :-)
how safe is it to blog and drive???

i've tried all instant messaginh clients, and miranda is the best- doesn't take up alot of memory, small, fast and very customizable.

i just checked out Meebo and LOVE it! much easier than opening all of my IM apps, and uses less memory :)

I use Pidgin (GAIM) on my computer(s), because it's fast, efficient, and just about supports every IM protocol that exists.
Meebo, however, is very useful when I'm using shared computers.

I hope you aren't holding your phone at the same time you're driving Chris. I don't want you to get in an accident. I use Meebo.
