  • how u circular breathe omg :D

  • Circular breathing isn't that hard. It takes a half hour to learn and a day to get good at it.

  • There is no sense in making statements this one is the best or better than anyone... James is unbelievable and a great guy to talk to if you ever get the chance. Enjoy each player for what he or she does and avoid the comparisons. I certainly don't want just one type of player. There is room in my listening for Allen Vizzutti, Arturo Sandoval, Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong, Maurice Andre, Doc Severinsen, Maynard and on and on and on. Each brings something special and unique.

  • hehe. he still had hair back then :D

  • Until you se James play live and see all his different talents in music, you can nto commnet. He is the worlds best bar none!

  • @tomjak123 I've seen him play live several times and can't stand him as a player. Too much high/fast/fancy crap. His solo's sound completely soulless to me.

  • @xul12345 if they are soundless then how can hear them? just saying ;)

  • what a wind bag

  • excellent

  • I suppose 'Steveplaysthe drums' refers to the obvious fact that in music there comes a point where music confronts technique ... do you play for beauty for the song or do you 'use' the chart to display your virtuosity? James Morrison is one of the greatest technicians on the horn ... imho he's on par with Arturo and that's a big claim ... Those gifted enough to reach this level may have the right to play to display their technique now and again ... and maybe that's where the $ are???

  • แอบหายใจเข้าไปกี่รอบเนี่ย ดูไม่ทันเรย

  • Very poor quality of vedeo and audio....hmmmmmmm.

  • If you like this then you'll like Moto Perpetuo by Raphael Mendez.

  • James Morrison is a beast.

  • jesus watching this makes you want to hold your breath ahah

  • i just taught myself how to circular breath yesterday, and it really isn't as hard as it seems. once you get the hang of it, it's easy. search circular breathing on youtube, and the first link is what i used to learn, it is great. I'm starting to try it on the trombone, it's a little harder, but i will get there.

  • Beautiful, you should watch Adi Hershko double staccato circular breathing

  • It's not a really hard thing to do on the trumpet. All you have to do is use your cheeks to push the air out as you breath through your nose. Now if you can do that on the flute, you are a beast!

  • it's even beastlier on a tuba.

  • i can circular breath, but keeping the tone steady and not lose quality of sound is so hard. On the didge its easy but on the trumpet it aint.

  • I personally can't circular breath, but one of the other trumpet players in my band can, it's pretty cool.

  • DAYum he blows and sucks at the same time

I'd like to see YOU do that

  • I would kick so many babies in the face to be able to do that.

  • it took me one hour to learn that after thinking about how it works

  • @MrAntoPark its pretty simple fella, its just making it sound good thats the hard part!

  • @MrAntoPark LMFAO HELL YEAH!

  • @MrAntoPark that is the sound of kicking babies in the face, James has paid his dues.

  • circular breathing is soo hard... but im gettin there.... im still in training...

  • And people say I'm good, hmph, they obviously don't watch this.

  • I saw your video. You are pathetic

  • I have seen this concert in TV like 10 years ago! I remember a kick-ass tenor solo in this tune that I'd like to transcribe. Could you upload the whole tune please!

  • that CANT be good for your face...

  • he's a gimmick trumpeter. still great though

  • A gimmick trumpeter? How do you figure that?

I agree James is great, but if he's just a gimmick trumpeter then I guess that makes guys like Maynard and Arturo etc gimmick trumpeters too because they played higher and did stuff noone else was doing.

If you can do things like this in context, why not then.

Dizzy Gillespie was the one to say "It ain't showin' off if you can do it."

  • @Steveplaysthedrums: Maynard was sometimes "gimmicky", so was Dizzy, so is Wynton, so are many players. I think the real measure of a musician is whether you let your gimmicks get in the way of your music. (High-note contests, playing without a mouthpiece (Arturo), circular breathing for no musical reason, etc.)

  • @Steveplaysthedrums Dizzy Gillespie was one of the original show offs smart one!!! First you had Louis Armstrong playing high D's (note above C 2 ledger lines above staff) which people thought was impossible and then came people like Dizzy Gillespie and Harry James who were high note screamers of their time.

  • yea im TRYING to learn how to do that. ITS REALLY HARD!!!!

  • before u say he's only fooling you with his lips , do your research first, he's a multi talented musician and one of the best, for the record it's called circular breathing and very hard to learn

  • CORRECT>.....though.....its actually CYCLIC breathing.....hate to be one of those youtube comment wankers.....but circular implies the air is travelling within the body and being re-used. so yer. theres my little bit of knowledge.....i can do it.....its one thing to do it....but it took me a while to learn on trumpet

  • Cyclic breathing is in thru the mouth and out thru the nose usually in meditation. Circular breathing is in thru the nose and out the mouth to produce a continuous tone.

  • so, brass and wind players would be great didgeridoo players? particularly tuba players?

  • It's a nice technique if you can handle it. I asked my teacher how to do it and actually the idea is simple but if you try it out like me it's so f****** hard......

  • Amazing breath control.

Like a magician he distracts you with his lip and hand movements

Yhe real magic is in the breath control

  • J'aimerai apprendre le circular breathing

  • BEAST

  • OOOOOOOMMMMMMMGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Donnot underestimate the power of Morrison!!!!

  • lol listen to Masked.. ppl! >XO

  • You don't understand the effect that a held note or motif, or trill, creates on people, especially in the blues. You must be into all that altered shit, twelve-tones, and all that other stuff.

You have to know when and how to break your message down to the people.

  • ended on a mid-range note? He did 210 BPm 16ths runs up and down the doubles and triples scales. Obviously you have NO idea what you're talking about.

  • I've tried circular breathing before, and I can' do it...

  • He came to my school and did this long talk with us all about practice and making the big time etc, he was bloody awesome.... And remember: TRUMPETS RULE!!!

  • But tubas rule more...

  • Yeah he is good but anoying

  • ok well he has really good use of circular breathing, but he only did it for a really long trill and the rest of his solo was like nothing.

  • James has Hair!!!

  • my god what song is that?? i need to know plz

  • I asked for a blues

  • Circular breathing is when you breath in with your nose and blow out with your moulth to keep a continuous note. It is very hard at first but after about a week you can be a pro.

  • What is circular breathing?

  • its when u can play and breath through your nose at the same time

  • wrong. thats impossible.

  • how do u do it it looks complecated

  • You fill your cheeks with air while your blowing out and then use ur cheeks to squeeze the air out while you breath in through ur nose. Practise through a straw into a glass of water :D

  • i played with him, he did a concert with our schools jazz band.

    he is incredible, full stop

  • I tried to play with him once, but he blew me away ... ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ... sorry lame joke.... ha ha ha - I'm still laughing.

  • Yeah, we get to play with them next month. Dallastown Band, ftw!

  • !!! he's got hair then!!!

  • ill tell yall somthing.... circular breathing is not hard. my band teacher told me about it and i learned it in less than 2 hours!!!!!

  • you're right! I was exactly the same. Got handed a didge and 10 minutes later did it once. Then twice. Now I do it all the time on my trom. It's just practice but it's not hard.

  • I'm awful at circular breathing, I'll stick to ordinary breathing right now. James Morrison tempts me to snap my trumpet in half altogether and just be done with it lol.

  • @lespaulibanez

Can you help me to learn it???

  • its funny beacuse everyboby thinks circlular breathing is hard but actually its quite easy to learn

  • wrong

  • its true people say it takes years to master it but it took me like a couple of weeks

  • what a show off

  • show offs are the most fun to watch ;]

  • you know why you say that's easy, beacuase JM makes it looks easy... so what, I do circular breathing as well, but I'm not kick ass James Morrison , aren't I? He's such a legend :)

  • actually it's easy if you know what circular breathing is

  • wow thats hard
